Do you save the best for last or dive right in?

Life can seem very routine, seeing the same old stuff every day and then bam! You see some really weird stuff. Which I did this week. Probably doesn’t translate well but I’m sharing anyway, because it’s Thinking Out Loud Thursdays.

But first let’s talk a little bit about food. It’s never that far from my mind, anyway.

Cheesy goodness

Save the best for last?
My husband and I are such opposites. When I eat, I save what I consider to be the best part of a dish for last.

Take the chili I ate after Saturday’s really chilly run. Man, was I glad I made that earlier in the week and man did it hit the spot!

Of course the best part was the ooey, gooey, melted cheese on top.

As I was eating it I realized that my eyes were a little bit too big for my stomach — I’d served myself too much. But I wasn’t about to give up any of that cheesy goodness, no siree Bob! So I ate around the bottom until I started to feel pretty full and then I ate the cheese covered top — and the rest went back into the mason jar for another blustery day.

Wouldn’t you like to be a weather forecaster?
They get paid even though it seems they can’t really tell you much about the weather.

Weather is not in my control — I get that. But I must pack, since I’m traveling to my race, and I’d really like to do it early.

Except you can’t. Because the weather is constantly changing, and not just by a few degrees, either. And of course you have to allow +/- 10 degrees to whatever is forecast. Our trip to Prague a few years back? It was supposed to be 50s. It was 40s, and it was really, really, really cold.

My race forecast? Sunday: 60% chance of rain. Yuck.
Sunday evening: 20% chance of rain, but most likely in the afternoon. Low of 35. Say whaaaat?
Monday morning: 60% chance of rain ending by midday & still damn cold in the morning.
Monday afternoon: 40% chance of AM showers, but now the low is forecast to be 43.

Still ugly, but getting better. I fully expect it to be nice by the time the actual race rolls around, and this is why no doubt I’ll be packing my race outfit the night before we leave. And having like a gazillion tops just in case it’s raining, it’s not, it’s warmer, no it’s cold . . . . (and by Wednesday the forecast was almost perfect racing weather, except for that wind).

Am I the only person who doesn’t decorate for Fall?
Even the vet gets into the act!

I really enjoy the distraction of all the decorations as I walk the dogs around the neighborhood for the millionth time (after running around it, of course).

My mom was always into decorating. I’m not sure where she went wrong with me.

An awesome use for leftover pumpkin
Friday Food Porn will be back at some point. I’d like to get a little busy with organizing some stuff there, but I just haven’t had the time lately.

But I did make this awesome pumpkin pie chia pudding the other day. It’s pinned in my favorites board on Pinterest — I finally get Pinterest! Chocolaterunsjudy, of course.

Saw some weird s@*# this week!
I wish I was younger so I would think of taking a video of some of this stuff.

This person came into our WW meeting with a mask on going “meow, meow” and holding her hands more like a rabbit than a cat. I thought maybe it was something my leader had rigged up, but no, she was as surprised as the rest of us.

My friend recognized the person, who apparently is a hair dresser (and my friend thinks he/she is transitioning), but still, this was really bizarre.

And then walking the dogs this morning they were working on a tree. I don’t know if they were just cutting limbs or cutting the whole tree down, but as we came back I just saw the tree swaying back and forth at the end of a crane.

I thought about taking a video of that, but I realized it wouldn’t look as weird as it did in person. I stood there gobsmacked a few minutes watching it. Definitely not something you see every day!

What was the weirdest thing you saw this week?

I’m linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for her:

Thursdays are for thinking out loud

  1. I live in Scotland right now and I am constantly saying there is literally no need for meteorology over here in general (there is also literally no use for an umbrella here either as they flip inside out within 3 minutes)! The weather is almost NEVER correct here and you do often have to prepare for all four seasons in a day at any point. I’ve been here nearly seven months and I’m just now catching on, but you cannot plan anything! People telling me they are planning outdoor events of any kind baffles me — there’s a 50-70% chance it will be raining that day!
Hopefully you can get yourself prepared soon. It’s frustrating, seriously, what a difference 10 degrees makes!

  2. I look at the dessert menu and it’s good, I don’t eat all of my meal so I have room for dessert.

Yes, I love to decorate for the holidays.

The weather…don’t get me started. I can’t bring several outfits so I will probably freeze – at least I don’t think it will rain but it’s going to be cooler, windy & cloudy (at least that’s today’s forecast)

  3. I definitely always save the best part for last! Like when I’m eating a bowl of oats with a glob of nu butter on top? I always eat around the edges first and save the middle with all the nut butter for last. Or when I have a dinner plate with a tonne of different foods on it? My favourite one always gets eaten last. Gotta end things on a good note 🙂

  4. I haven’t seen anything weird this week….yet. Ooohhhh….cheesy goodness. I save the best for last, too. The only decorating I do is to plug in the electric jack-o-lantern on Halloween. It’s more a signal that we have candy then actual decoration.

  5. I’m definitely a best for last kind of girl. Delayed gratification, I guess….unless someone steals that best part. I noticed all the roadkill on the marathon course last Sunday. Some of it was so “ground in” I was sure it was fake fur. Yeah right. Shows you where my head goes in a marathon.

  6. I always so I should have gone to weather school!! They never have to be right, can blame it on a cold front or wind shift and have no consequences for being wrong 85% of the time!!

I am packing 3 outfits for this weekend! Stupid weather people!

    Look at that chili!! Yumms!

I usually eat everything all together-only leaving sweets/dessert for the end.

    Good luck this weekend!
