Run away with me for some scenic runs

I think running is one of the best ways to see a new place, so I decided to backtrack on Tuesdays on the Run and share some scenes from some of my travel runs. Some are from racecations, some are from vacations, some I’ll tell you a bit about, some I’ll let the caption speak for itself, some were taken on the run, so to speak, some were taken while just walking around.

Paying respects

No, I didn’t run the Boston Marathon. I ran the one and only Runner’s World Heartbreak Hill half (yes, I ran up that Heartbreak Hill). But I wanted to see the Boston Marathon finish line and pay my respects. Just so happened the restaurant I wanted to go to was nearby.

Trying to run Red Rocks outside of Vegas — holy hills!

.

Again, paying our respects to Gettysburg

My Gettysburg half was run just outside the battlefield. We’d never been, so we took a tour the next day.

I know a lot of these photos I haven’t shared on the blog — some of them I’ve never shared at all. Seeing new places on foot is the best! Nothing like a good scenic run/race to put you in a good mood.

Tuesdays on the Run

I’m linking up with MCM Mama Runs, Marcia’s Healthy Slice, and My No Guilt Life for the Tuesdays on the Run linkup.

Do you love to travel? What were some of your favorite scenic runs?

  1. I loved looking through your photos and, especially, how happy you look. I know my runner friends roll their eyes at all of my picture taking, but it pays off on those days when I get to spend a few minutes looking back. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Really? Of course I run with Darlene, and she’s a blogger, so yeah, I guess we’re both always taking photos. 🙂

Yes, I almost always feel better after running! Sometimes I even smile during. 🙂

  2. Gorgeous pictures. I never take pictures when I’m running since I’m so focused on the run itself. Plus, I mostly stick to neighborhoods so there’s not much worth seeing most of the year.

    1. For me, it totally depends on the run. On vacation — yes, absolutely I’ll stop as many times as I want and take photos!

I run in my neighborhood a lot too. Then I rarely take photos — you’ll notice I didn’t share photos of my local runs, right?

  3. You have run in some really great places ! Your pictures are gorgeous. I was watching Boston when the bombings happened. I cried all afternoon. I lived in Boston 5 years and have been back numerous times, but not since the bombing. I hope to make it back one day.

    1. This was after the bombing. It was part of why I really felt called to run that half.

I never lived in Boston, but my husband grew up in Wellesley, and then is parents retired to the Cape.

We hadn’t actually been in Boston for years and years; we’d always gone to the Cape.

You run in some very lovely places on a daily basis! What I shared is definitely not what it looks like on a regular basis around here.

      That would’ve been too boring!

  4. Kauai is most favorite place in the whole wide world. I love running there, though when I’ve been it’s either before or after the Honolulu Marathon, so the running was pretty light. One of my favorite scenic runs was in Paris, where my husband and I ran a triangle, which started near the Eiffel Tower, went past the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame. Running in new places is the best way to see a new city!

    1. I wasn’t a runner yet when we went to Paris. 😦

We love Kauai too — we’ve been there 3 times in the last 10 yrs! I’m lucky.

I keep saying I’m going to try SUP, but I never get around to it.

When my husband used to travel more for work, sometimes I got to go with him. All our Europe trips were work trips for him.

  5. Beautiful scenery! I have two favorites. I love the Calloway Gardens half marathon which is in the Georgia woods (you’ll have to google the site to get an idea). I’ve run it multiple times. So beautiful. The other was outside Denver in the canyons of CO. Spectacular! And all downhill. I hope to repeat the one soon.
