My idea of meal prep: TOLT

I’m Thinking Out Loud about meal prep, just a little this week. How most people’s idea of meal prep is getting healthy dinners, etc., prepped on the weekend. And my idea of meal prep might be baking.

Which just may explain why weight doesn’t come off of me easily.

The Perfect Curl
That’s what my husband called it, anyway.

My hair has a mind of its own. I never really learned how to tame its curls with a curling iron. I just air dry, and what happens, happens.

My husband commented at dinner one night that one side (yeah, it’s always one side) was just perfectly curled, and wondered if I’d had a hand in that. Nope, I just had my hair cut, which always brings out the curls, but it just happened.

I really do wish I could make that happen! Then hat hair wouldn’t matter so much.

Trust me, it was really very bruised

My Treadmill is Attacking Me
Seriously, my pinkie finger was quite black and blue last week. The handlebars are short, and I have a tendency to swing my hands right into them.

And I bruise very easily.

Am I the only one that does that?

The Randomness of Chafing
Every time I think I have it figured out, I get random chafing. Yes, even when running on the mill. Never used to happen, but has happened a couple of times this winter. With tops I’ve already worn without chafing.

I thought I mostly got chafing when my weight was up, but the irony here is that it’s actually down a bit right now.

Most be those darn batwings.

A Serious Senior Moment
I’ve mentioned before how I basically split my credit cards between two wallets. One of them has my license and obviously the other does not.

I left for the chiropractor Friday, and planned to stop at Sephora for an exchange and at the library for a book pickup.

I could have sworn I’d put both wallets into my pocketbook, but when I got to Trader Joes (because yes, I was stopping there, too), it was nowhere to be found. No license, no library card, and not the credit card I usually use.

I was not happy, and had to skip Sephora and the library.

And then when I got home, I found that wallet underneath the book I’d brought with me in case I had to kill some time before my appointment.

I seriously felt like I was losing my mind, because while I remembered taking it, I swear I remember putting it into my pocketbook!

Weekend meal prep, but I didn’t stop there

Meal prep in my house
When most people talk about meal prep, they mean grilling protein, chopping veggies, baking potatoes.

My idea of meal prep is a little different . . .

This is how I roll with chocolate
So Tuesday I shared my first vlog (and yes, I’m milking that baby for all it’s worth) about why I have to take some of the chocolate out of Chocolaterunsjudy.

And then this happened. (recipe is pinned to my Pinterest Brownie board — it’s the one from Sunwarrior).

Protein brownie

And then that (below) happened.

3 ingredient chocolate cookies, no sugar!

But above is exactly what I was talking about in taking the chocolate out of Chocolaterunsjudy: it’s exactly the sort of recipe I would have normally thrown in a few chocolate chips into, even though the recipe didn’t call for it. Because if chocolate is good, obviously double chocolate is better, right? Or is that just me?

Except not always. That’s fine if you’re trying to maintain your weight, but no so good if you’re trying to lose weight. Especially if it’s those last few pounds.

So I refrained myself.

And by the way, when I talk about chocolate, I am not talking about milk chocolate. I never eat the stuff anymore. Or only on very rare occasions. Too sweet. Yes, I said too sweet! Because as I wrote about in 5 Simple Ways to Ditch Sugar, when you use less of the sweet stuff, you crave less of the sweet stuff.

Peekaboo, Lola!

Where’s Lola?
Obligatory Lola photo. Gotta make an effort to take more of Giz, he’s older after all.

As I said on my personal FB page, girlfriend knows how to live.

Speaking of Lola, Tuesday I was rooting around in the fridge for an ingredient I needed for dinner. And knocked a mason jar full of nut butter sauce onto the floor. Which proceeded to smash into smithereens, of course.

Many expletives flew.

After I was done cleaning it up, I saw Lola wasn’t in her bed as usual. I like to know where the animals are, mainly so that they’re not up to no good.

There are three different beds Lola often lays in. Nope, she wasn’t in any of them. Not on the bed in the bedroom.

She was in her crate in the bedroom, because that’s where she goes when she’s scared. Even though I was calmer, she did not want to come back out. I eventually persuaded her, but then she just went right back in.

And just a few moments ago (it’s Wednesday now), I went upstairs with the intention of icing my foot, and found a little glass shard on the couch. How the heck did it get there

Are you a chocolate person? Or salty? What type of chocolate?

  1. Did you know that chocolate bites and movie popcorn goes heavenly together? I kid you not! So I guess I want them both, :D! Great ramblings! I wonder if the chafing is from material wearing down and not being as thick as it once was? Just a thought. I’m going to have to get Pinterest, I really am! I’m losing track of everything I want to try, and isn’t that what it’s used for?? Those cookies look amazing!! I’m with you, I’d want to add extra (or some) chocolate chips!! Have a great day!! 🙂

    1. No, the things that have been chafing are not old clothes. It’s really very random. Kind of like my ankle, which seemed worse monday and today seems just about normal.

A few people have mentioned arthritis to me, and I’m beginning to wonder, but considering I’ve never had foot problems at all that seems really weird to me.

Pinterest is the devil. Seriously. I want to bake all the things and I just can’t!

  2. My hair does the same thing (waves rather than actual curls but still) and I am inept at curling iron and blow dryer. I have hit the handrail but never bruised….luckily. I have bruised the palm of my hand when opening a bottle, though. Those chocolate recipes look super yummy.

  3. I definitely agree with you about milk chocolate. That used to be the only type I could tolerate, but now I don’t want anything but the dark stuff. That being said, 85% is about as high as I can go otherwise I just start to feel like I’m trying to eat tree bark or something. Oh, and I’ve totally smacked my hands on the handlebars of the treadmill before. Hope your pinky is feeling better!

    1. Oh yeah, as a kid it was milk chocolate all the way. Now I never eat it.

I agree with you, though, 85% (which I do like) is my limit, too. Most of the time I’m at 70-72.

Glad to hear it’s not just me beating myself up on the treadmill!

  4. You’re so right about craving more sweets when you eat more sweets. If I cut sweets out of my diet for a week or so, it’s easy to make healthier choices because I’m not craving the sweet stuff. I’ve been struggling since Valentine’s Day though. After eating a box of Valentine’s chocolates, I keep reaching for something sweet in the evenings.

    1. I did more baking around Valentines and then of course went out to eat, but I just got back to normal the next week.

Enjoyed myself then got right back on track.

Sweets in the evening can be a really tough habit to break! I’ve actually got to the point where usually just a piece of fruit satisfies me, which I swore it never would — but it does.

  5. My hair does its own wavy thing. I do use a curly iron to make it wave correctly I only wash it once a week so I have to get used to the after hat look.

    Those recipes look great.

  6. The recipes all look great, thank you for sharing. I might have to try making the “detox cookies”. I’ve never made anything like that before and it looks like it would be a good snack.

    1. I have made cookies with just banana and nut butter before, but not chocolate ones, so that was a nice find!

There’s definitely a strong banana taste (I imagine it depends on how ripe your bananas are). But it worked for me.

  7. One of the reasons I don’t enjoy running on the treadmill…I often hit my hands on the bars and sometimes get too close and hit the STOP button, no fun! I had some chafing on my ankles for the first time the other day…granted, I wasn’t wearing the proper socks, so I guess I asked for it. I want that chocolate cookie recipe 🙂 I use bananas the most in cooking treats 🙂

  8. Oh I definitely have had some of those days with a senior moment and they drive me nuts. The worst is when I walk to a room with a purpose and then forget why! Chaffing is such a weird thing. I have been lucky, but once I had my Halt spray tucked into my shorts and unfortunately it rubbed for nearly 2 hours against my skin without my knowledge. Boy did I have a surprise in the shower. Ouch

    1. Chafing is just totally random for me. It doesn’t happen often, thankfully.

If you know you’ve chafed, put anti chafing stuff on before your shower & it won’t hurt.

I used to be afraid to shower if I had bad chafing!

  9. I’m terrible at meal prep. I can see how spending some hours on a Sunday prepping can save you some time each night, but my idea of meal prep is to pull meat out of the freezer long enough ahead of time that it’s ready to cook on the day I need it. I really don’t think cooking takes that long, or takes much thought, so meal prep is lost on me!

My hair is wavy, but one side always curls more than the other. I part my hair asymmetrically so that may be why, but it drives me nuts! It curls more and HOLDS the curl better!

    1. Sounds like my idea of meal prep, too. I do like to try to bake something on the weekends, though, because I give my husband something to take to work for breakfast/snack.

I part my hair on the side, too, mainly because it just seems to want to. Which is pretty much what I do with my hair — let it do it’s on thing.
