I runfess I cheated on my hairdresser (April 2016 runfessions)

hairdresser

I’m a cheater. And a bad daughter. Clearly I have some runfessin’ to do. At least I have good hair — when it’s just cut, that is.

Today I’m joining up with Marcia at Marcia’s Healthy Slice to share my runfessions; come join us and get your runfessions off your chest.

I runfess . . .
I made some granola bars this month. I was so proud of myself for not eating any of the dark chocolate covered dried fruit I put into the bars.

And then licked up the granola bar residue in the bowl.

Progress, not perfection.

I runfess . . .
Running is interfering with my haircuts, or how I cheated on my hairdresser.

My hairdresser, back from maternity leave and now with 2 small kids, only works weekends.

I didn’t know which day I was running, or when, so I ended up making an appointment with the hairdresser I used while my regular one was out.

I runfess . . .
That I was going to runfess that my IT band was mildly irritated, too. I’d been keeping that little jewel to myself, because I knew how to handle it and I knew it wouldn’t be a factor in my upcoming half.

Until I got my first sports massage, that is. It was like magic! It also took away that annoying pain I’ve been having in my shoulder for a year. I didn’t talk much about that one, either, because a) it didn’t interfere with my running and b) it was just a minor nuisance.

If only I could afford a weekly sports massage!

Still debating whether or not to do one more before my half. I know it would help, but yeah, it’s not cheap.

I runfess . . .
I raided my dirty laundry for socks.

In the end, I actually did find a clean pair so didn’t have to wear the dirty pair, but that was a first for me because I have a lot of socks.

I runfess . . .
I am tired of doing those darn PT exercises & stretches!

I kept forgetting to foam roll because of them.

I really need to contact the PT to tell him that it helped so much, and what should I do going forward for maintenance?

I also kind of want to go to PT like quarterly, just for a tune up and maybe to properly strengthen my weak areas.

Seriously, am I the only person out there that liked PT?

I runfess . . .
I thought I knew which pair of running shoes were going to run my next half.

Until I did 10 miles in my Newton Kismets. Yeah, that 10 miler last week that felt so great.

I wore my injiji toe socks, too. I like toe socks; I just don’t like how thin they are. But my toes were happy — I don’t get blisters, at least not yet, knock on wood, but my toenails can hurt after a long run (like they did in the Brooks Pure Connect).

On top of that, I found a compression toe sock from Toesox and ordered it. I plan to try them out Sunday, for my last 10 miler, which is forecast for 80% rain as I’m writing this (Thursday). Oh joy. And I’m just getting over some virus.

Would it be crazy to run a half in socks I’ve only worn once or twice?

I runfess . . .
I may have really been bad in the whole “I have enough” mantra I wrote about in 5 Mental Tricks to Stay the Course. First there was the Skirtsports sale, then there was the Sparkleskirts sale, then I decided I really need to try this BeetBoost everyone keeps raving about, the Acitve Gearup had a great deal on the Newton Motion, and of course there was the Toesox  . . .

Plus we are staying in Freeport, ME for a couple of days. Outlets, anyone? Last time I was there I didn’t buy anything, but I make no promises this time.

I runfess . . .
I am having such FOMO about ZOOMA Cape Cod. Darlene, Marybeth, Janelle, and I’m sure a lot of other bloggers/ambassadors are gonna be there. Of course I’ve already done my MA half (which I don’t regret), so I wouldn’t be doing the half, just the 10k.

I’m trying to convince my local friends to run Wineglass with me, but that’s the next weekend!

Or maybe I could convince them to do the half at ZOOMA, and look around for another fall half for myself. Oh but wait, one of them is doing Palio, which is 2 weeks before ZOOMA, but then she could do the 10k with me . . .

Too many races and I want to meet everyone! So little time (and money).

I runfess . . .
I really am the worst daughter.

I really don’t want to go down to my parents for Mother’s Day. We were just there. I’m getting over a virus. It’s just days before we have to leave.

My sister took the day off, though, so I guess I’m committed. Or need to be committed.

Runfession is good for the soul! Come join us

  1. I share the worst daughter accolade with you. I haven’t seen my dad since before the holidays. We cancelled our land line at the end of the year and that’s the only phone # he has for me so he can’t call. Oh that’s bad.
I think shopping is in the air, new season and all. How can you go to outlets and not?
I’d say no new socks for the half. Have a fun weekend!

    1. I also didn’t call my mom this week. Usually I call once a week (or every couple of weeks). I knew she’d be alarmed by the fact that I could barely speak.

My plan is to run to the outlets. 🙂 I’ll need to get in one run before the race.

I’m testing out the socks tomorrow for a probably rainy 10 miles — if that goes well, I might wear them. Or not. I’ve already done 10 miles in a different pair of toe socks, but I love the fact that these are compression and toe socks (and I’ve run in the injiji “compression” toe socks before; they’re just not very compressive.

  2. You are so funny! I need to do a little shopping myself, via the computer screen. I keep hearing (and seeing) good things about Sparkleskirts…. and the BeetBoost is awesome! I won a 10-packet (?) set, and it has been great! (I’m not crazy about the taste, but I can handle it for a quick drink/slam, and it’s worth it for the results!!)

    1. Sparkleskirts really are great. Don’t get me wrong, I love my Skirtsports (obviously), but I like the sparkle, the pockets are larger, and there’s always a zippered pocket too. But pricey and almost never on sale! I like them for my big goal races.

  3. I love your runfessions! I feel guilty when I cheat on my hairdresser too. IMHO, if you’ve washed and worn the new socks at least once and have tried them out on a long run, I think you’re good to go for race day. Have a great weekend!

  4. Couldn’t cheat on my hairdresser – had her for too many years, would feel very guilty. Never tried toe socks. My blisters can only be cured by surgery. And yes you have to see your mother for Mother’s Day. You have your 50 state goal so that takes precedence. We bloggers will be jealous when you complete it so don’t worry about missing one race.

    1. I didn’t really have a choice in the matter, had to get the haircut & just couldn’t do it on the weekend.

But I’ve had quite a number of hairdressers since I moved here — they keep leaving!

In TX I had the same hairdresser the entire time I lived there.

  5. toe socks? Don’t think I have tried that! I could never cheat on my hairdresser- then what would I look like? 🙂 So many races so little time- tough call!

    1. Right now I’m thinking about the 10k with some friends — if we can find a hotel/airbnb. Apparently the race hotel is already sold out.

All the hairdressers at my salon are good. I keep seeing new ones because they keep leaving (not sure why that is).

  6. So many races, so little time…. my next one is mid June, not sure if I will do another one before then. I am a bad daughter every year for Mother’s Day because it is not the same date as in France so I always forget the date !

  7. I figure if you have to wear dirty clothes over again, socks are the way to go. I did it this week, too! It’s not like they’re visible, and no one will know you’re wearing stinky socks as long as your shoes are on!

Race FOMO is the worst. I never know how to deal with it!

    1. Usually for me it’s bras — despite the fact that I’m a heavy sweater!

It’s funny, it’s not really race FOMO, as much of not being able to meet up with online friends FOMO!

  8. OmG!! I can’t believe you cheated on your hairstylist! But it makes sense! as long as your hair looks great! that is all that matters!

how old are your shoes? I had issues with my toes hurting after long runs, and it turned out to be that my shoes were done for. I switched shoes, and it helped so much!

You are not the worst daughter, it’s hard to travel so much ! I’m trying to balance enjoying mother’s day and celebrating my mom.

    1. Nope, the shoes are good. Most are relatively new (I rotate through a few pairs).

I didn’t have a lot of choice with the hairdresser, but I’ve seen a long line of hairdressers at this salon. They’ve all been good, but they keep leaving!
