Not on your journey

lost

It seems like a stretch that lost could go with comparison, but, in a way, once I saw the quote above, it does.

We discussed comparison a while ago, remember? As in it’s the thief of joy.

And everyone is on their own journey, as they say. It doesn’t mean they’re lost. It doesn’t mean you’re lost. It means, quite simply, that there can be many different paths to the same destination

Higdon. Hansons. Gallloway. Paleo. Vegan. Mediterrean..

There is no right or wrong way, there is only a right or wrong way for you.

And you are only lost when you cling to something that is not working or abandon something that is working for you in favor of something that is working for someone else.

Never regret anything you have done with a sincere affection; nothing is lost that is born of the heart.
–Basil Rathbone

Sometimes we feel as though we are lost:

  • We feel that we are unloveable
  • We can’t seem to make progress no matter how hard we work at something
  • We feel invisible
  • We don’t know which way to turn

The truth is always inside of us; it is never truly lost. We have to stop, breathe, and listen to what our heart is telling us.

Every day you spend drifitng away from your goals is a waste not only of that day, but also of the additional day it takes to regain lost ground.
–Ralph Marston

I hope after reading this you spend a little time thinking about what goal you really want to go after — and just do it!

Do you ever feel lost?

Do you start a new program because someone else is having success with it?

What goal are you working towards today?

  1. A very deep post Judy, and very pertinent to me! Not just about diet or running but in life. I’m one of those people who finds it difficult to accept that someone can have a different outlook to me not because they choose to, not because they are being difficult not because they don’t know all the facts, but because they really see things differently. In 90% of life it’s fine because I don’t have any strong views, but when we get to the 10% of stuff that really matters (to me) it can be very distressing.

    1. Oh, my husband and I are such complete opposites on so many levels. We see things very differently. So I get what you’re saying!

Oddly enough, I do tend to have pretty strong views, but I enjoy a good conversation, too.

  2. Nope. Don’t think I’ve jumped at anything because others are doing it. But yes, I have felt lost or do but trying not to dwell on it. My goal is to have this period pass quickly and look back as it was just a blip in the road of life.

  3. I’m a pretty independent person, but it is easy to do something that others are doing. I like to choose my own path and see where it takes me. I love your attitude.

  4. Very timely Judy! I was thinking this morning I just need to do HoHo. I’ve recently felt pressured by the challenges, streaks, fads etc. even when I really don’t care a thing about them — but more a need to fit in. Be social. They aren’t me and I’m letting it go.

    1. Ok just do HoHo had me giggling. Could be a slogan, but you might get into trouble there!

Maybe I’m just antisocial. I could get behind a yoga or meditation streak, but otherwise, I need my variety and my rest.

  5. I love this! I like the quote from Ralph – so true.
It is hard when you see someone having success to not try what they are doing, but you are right, what works for one may not for another…their comparison thing does steal joy.
I am currently lost in my weight loss journey and need to really reign it in. I have been creeping up the past few months and now it is almost 10 pounds. That is dangerous.
I feel lost a bit as a runner, I am not sure if I can really handle training soon, but i try to just roll with it, I’ll deal with that when I actually start.

    1. I’ve had to be really careful lately, we’ve been eating out a bit more than usual. Not that I’m complaining, but it can be tricky.

Isn’t it funny how towards the end of a training cycle we’re ready to be done, but then we do feel kind of lost? You’ll be following a schedule again soon enough!

Weight is always an ongoing battle with me — always will be. I’m at a good weight, but I still have just a few pounds to lose so vacations are easier. Which I managed to do before the last vacation, but then I did gain, and then there was another vacation (and I didn’t gain, hallelujah!).

Life has been busy, which is good. But sometimes slow is good, too. At least for a little while.

  6. My very first year out of college I was lost in so many ways – in a new city, in a job I really didn’t like, away from my family and boyfriend, and working part-time to make ends meet… It’s a very scary feeling.

    Thanks for linking up!

    1. I sort of had a similar experience after college, too, same deal — new city, didn’t know anyone, not real fond of my job, many miles away from Mr. Judy who at the time was my boyfriend.

But then my first cat showed up on my doorstep one day. 🙂
