Kerfuffle: Disturbance, Fuss
Origin and Etymology of kerfuffle:
alteration of carfuffle, from Scots car- (probably from Scottish Gaelic cearr wrong, awkward) + fuffle to become disheveled
First Known Use: 1946
I’m taking a slightly different spin on today’s Wednesday Word and will just write about the things that cause me to raise a kerfuffle (fuss). Boy, don’t you just love odd words like that?
I raise a kerfuffle over the fact that Mr. Judy seems incapable of properly closing containers. Sorry, honey, it’s true.
I raise a kerfuffle over races that run out of water or cups for water. Should never happen.
I raise a kerfuffle over people who use retractable leashes on their dogs and just pay no attention and let them wander around so they’re tripping runners or doing their business on someone’s rosebushes.
I raise a kerfuffle over the people who leave filled poop bags on the street. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, sometimes they actually come back for them (but why? why can’t you just bring it with you on your walk?), but more often than not I see the bags in the same place days later. No excuse for that.
I raise a kerfuffle over the people who can’t even be bothered to pick up after their dogs.
I raise a kerfuffle over the fact that most drivers think they’re just entitled to go wherever they feel like, whether that’s almost plowing into your car or deciding to cross five lanes of traffic because they suddenly realized they needed to be in the right lane, not the left.
I raise a kerfuffle over the drivers who can’t seem to actually get into a turn lane, causing you to have to either stop or swerve into the next lane.
I raise a kerfuffle over people who vulterize parking lots: you know them, the ones that drive around and around until a spot close to wherever they want to go opens up.
I raise a kerfuffle over the furkids not listening to me (like just now, when Bandit got into an area of the yard we don’t want him going into, and apparently turned deaf, although after I got mad at him he actually came when called).
I raise a kerfuffle over people who don’t return your wave, smile, or greeting on a walk or run.
I raise a kerfuffle over people talking on their cell phones everywhere. You know I’ve ranted about this before!
I raise a kerfuffle over walkers completely blocking paths and not getting out of your way when you come running up behind them.
Hey, you know what this weekend is? It’s time for runfessions and yes, I’ll be raising a few kerfuffles.
Tell me in the comments:
What do you raise a kerfuffle over?
Do you love strange sounding words like kerfuffle?
What do you let roll off your back and not raise a kerfuffle over?
I’ve never heard this word before Judy! It’s a funny sounding one but I like it 🙂
I think I raise a kerfuffle over people who don’t stick to the clock, especially when they give me a time to meet and turn up late!!!

My parents were/are perpetually late& I hated that (and didn’t take after them).

I raise a kerfuffle over clients not paying, because of their ‘cashflow’. I mean seriously?! My time is not for free, I got ‘cashflow’ needs as well and if you can’t pay me, tell me before I have to realise iit. I’d rather run than work for nothing. Kerfuffle over 😀
I also don’t get the plastic bag forget/drop thing …

I know, right? I used to have my own business, but I must say most of my customers were good

Hah! I’m with you on all of these! I don’t get it when people don’t return greetings on a run. Phooey to them!

Most people do, but some people are either a) lost in their music or b) just not nice people.

I get SO annoyed at crazy driving. We see people texting all the time while driving! STOP already…
I was chuckling for all these 🙂

There are a lot of things I raise a kerfluffle over. Does that make me a kerfluffler?

LOL. Actually, there’s only one l in kerfuffle — I know, because I kept spelling it with 2 ls too and even had to go back and edit my graphic!
It seems like there ought to be 2.

I’m with you on a lot of these especially re dogs. I hate it when people let their dogs do their business in my yard and I have no pets.

As a dog owner, I gotta say it’s going to happen. My dogs do go on other people’s lawns — seriously, dogs are gonna do that (we don’t have sidewalks). But I’m really fastidious about picking up after mine & not letting them go on bushes.

I understand that the dogs do it wherever, on the sidewalk, yards etc. my annoyance is that the owners leave it for ME to clean up.

Oh, I don’t blame you one bit. That makes me mad, too, and I have dogs!

Love the sound of this word.
I hate tailgaters especially since I don’t drive slow.
I hate when people don’t respond to email or texts.
and when my hubby doesn’t close closets or drawers,

Mr. Judy tends not to close anything (closets, cabinets, etc. ). The other night I’d gone to bed when I started to hear noises. Sure enough, Gizmo was in the closet!

I get annoyed with co-workers who don’t answer emails. I think it’s rude. Sometimes I’m busy and can’t answer emails right away, but I at least acknowledge the email by saying something like, “I’ll look into this and get back to you.”

I’m with you on all points.

Runners who don’t return my smile or hello when I run toward them drive me nuts, too. Is it really that difficult to smile or nod?
Thanks for linking up!

Apparently it’s a pet peeve of many of us. Which begs the question — who ARE these runners that don’t return waves?

Hahaha, what a funny word… and you use it well. And I’ll agree with you on all these points absolutely! I’m a pretty easy-going person, so there’s not too much that I raise a kerfuffle over, but there are some things just absolutely make my blood pressure skyrocket. Fortunately for me I can’t pinpoint what those things are right at this moment, lol! I must be in shut-down mode (almost bedtime), 😀 , so I’ll have to get back to you on that. 😀

I’ve actually got a pretty good temper, I get that from my Dad. Tends to be rather slow burning, but then I also tend to hold a grudge.
Right now not so slow burning.
