I’m ready for an “easy” furkid: Spilling over high tea July 2016

Do you ever feel like all you do is take care of everyone else and when the heck is someone going to take care of you? I feel so whiny even typing that. You can read about why I feel I’m due an easy furkid (but obviously I’m not getting one) in last week’s Runfessions. Seriously, there are much worse problems than what I’m going through.

But hey, it’s time to spill over high tea and if you don’t like whiny posts, I suggest you move on to the next one.

Today I am joining up with CocoDeborah, and Lynda for their ultimate coffee tea date.

The Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I was wracking up a daily average of about 16,000 steps at the beginning of July, making sure Bandit got in long walks and I got in all my running.

And yet I had days where I was still 46% sedentary! I’ve been spending a lot of time in the office, because then Bandit doesn’t have to be crated and I can keep Lola out.

I did have one day that I was only sedentary 1% — it’s also the day I got in 30,000+ steps.

As the month went on and Bandit settled in and seemed to do okay with shorter walks, and the temperatures and humidity skyrocketed, I got back to a more normal amount of steps. Sort of. He’s had a couple of accidents now, so I’ve started to take him for more shorter walks midday.

I swear the dog is trying to kill me.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you I was so stressed out by the entire situation that I totally lost my appetite for a while. Well, that and the heat, I guess. I did lose a little weight but it’s not how I recommend doing it.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that while I understand how overwhelmed rescues are, I truly do, I also couldn’t believe I couldn’t even get one to return me a form email, much less contact me.

And the rescue that agreed to list Bandit as a courtesy? It took a while, but he is listed. If they’ve gotten any inquiries, so far I haven’t heard anything about it. No he’s not going anywhere soon.

These bangs aren’t too scary, but they’re from a month ago — I can tell because Bandit is on the chaise & he’s not allowed on there now, so just use your imagination

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I need a haircut, a massage, and a chiropractor appointment. Not necessarily in that order.

Hopefully by the time you read this I’ll actually have done at least some of that.I got a couple of quickie massages in July. I’m writing this on Friday, and making appointments for a haircut and a chiropractor appointment are on my to do list.

And I’m happy to report I made both appointments yesterday! Now my hair won’t scare small children. Too much, anyway — the bangs get really out of control. I know I could go in for a bang cut, but I almost never do. I just wait until I can’t stand it anymore.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you we finally had a small breakthrough with Bandit and the crate on Thursday. I had to be out twice, and the second time was probably the longest time I’ve left him so far.

I left him with a jerky stick I knew wouldn’t take very long, and a marrow bone with some peanut butter on it (and some shoved down fairly deep). It’s not the first time I’ve left that marrow bone, but when I got home, he’d actually worked his way through quite a bit of marrow.

We’ve worked hard to get him to like the crate, and he’s done really well, but the darn dog doesn’t chew anything (other than tennis balls, apparently). So it’s difficult to leave him with something that will occupy him while I’m gone. Who knew that not chewing could be such a problem?

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I am excited to watch the Olympics. Sort of. I think I’m gonna miss pretty much the whole opening ceremony. I’ll be getting ready for an early night because I have to get up early tomorrow morning for my long run and find a place I haven’t been to before. No doubt I won’t sleep well anyway, but I’ve got to try.

They are also predicting possible thunderstorms tomorrow morning. I will definitely be unhappy if I sleep poorly, get up really early, drive to this new place and the run is canceled due to thunder.

And then I’ll still need to get that run in!

Tea? Iced Tea? Coffee? Decaf? Or something else?

What do you need to get off your chest?

  1. I know what you mean about wanting someone to take care of you! But the plus side of doing the caring is doing the choosing. When you walk the dogs you get to choose when and where you walk, when I shop and cook for the family I get to choose what we eat etc.
I also keep trying to remind my self that problems are opportunities to grow. 😊😊 how big am I going to be !!!!!

    1. Unfortunately, I’m not in control of when I walk the dogs! It’s been so hot it needs to be early. And since Bandit had a few accidents, I’m also taking him for more shorter walks (when it isn’t too hot or I’m not too tired).

  2. I got a massage and a haircut this week! Both were long overdue.

Glad Bandit is making progress. TL would have nothing to do with a crate but luckily didn’t need to be in one. She’s not very good motivated but does love peanut butter and cheese.

  3. I feel your pain with Bandit! We, I mean I am working hard with Cocoa to overcome some of her issues related to shyness. She’s making huge strides–she’s actually letting people pet her on the street! Yay! without growling at them. She’s approached a few smaller dogs with her tail wagging. Last night tho, she cried when some bigger dogs wanted to sniff her. And we took her to the groomer, which was a mixed experience. They called me because she cried a lot of the time and pooped all over the table. We talked for a while and decided to just go for it. When I picked her up, she acted like it was no big deal. Faker! But we were all encouraged by that and think it will take some time for her to get used to it. She’s so proud of how beautiful she looks, but still won’t let me take a picture.

    1. That’s funny, pretty much all my animals are real hams and love the “camera” a bit too much — as in stop whatever they’re doing and walk right up to it. They love having photos taken.

That’s too bad that she pooped at the groomer, but it sounds like maybe she’ll get comfortable with it quickly.

Unfortunately, Bandit needs his claws clipped and a bath and he can’t wear a muzzle long enough for either yet and I can’t take him to a groomer unless he’s muzzled. And that’s not something I want to tackle right now. So I guess he’s going to have to smell doggy. Luckily he sleeps in his crate, I guess.

It’s been a tremendous amount of work, and it’s not about to change anytime soon either. 😦

  4. Sorry to hear things have been so stressful with Bandit. Hopefully, he finds a new home soon!

I’m in need of a massage too. Now that I’m in marathon mode, I feel like I’m sore every single day! Plus it’s a great way to unwind.

I’m really enjoying watching the Olympics. I forgot how exciting it can be! I thought the Opening Ceremony was really well done.
