. . . that won’t break the bank
It’s a Christmas miracle: I’m on theme today for the Friday Five 2.0 from Fairytales & Fitness and Rachel @ Running on Happy. Have you stuffed those stockings yet? If not, I’ve got some stocking stuffers that won’t break the bank for the runners in your life.
Which just might be you.
Socks
Conventional holiday wisdom says never give socks as a gift. Most runners I know would be very appreciative of socks — we never seem to have enough of them. Here are a few of my favorites, but you really ought to know what your runner wants:
- Balega Hidden Comfort Socks
- Balega Outdoor Moh-rino (for those chilly runs)
I happen to prefer socks with a good cushion — so again, know your runner.
Throwaway Gloves
Go to a dollar store nearby? You’re golden — most runners need throwaway gloves. Yes, we actually do throw them away — but fear not, most races gather up those throwaway items and donate them to charity.
You can also buy knee socks — we cut the toes off to make throwaway arm warmers.
Sweatshirts are good, too, since we’re often standing around in the cold for way too long, but we heat up quickly once we’re on the run.
These are not invest in quality items — when you find something decent that’s really cheap, snag it up for your favorite runner.
Gu, Chews, etc.
Find out your runner’s favorite type of fuel for races. Buy them some and stuff it in that stocking. We’re forever running out of our favorite fuel, too.
Headbands
Does your runner wear headbands? Take note. We love our headbands to keep the hair out of our eyes (even the runners with short hair).
You can find one of my favorite brands (and an actual favorite color) here (Amazon Affiliate link). I have been wearing Sweaty Bands for years — they really don’t slip! And they’re comfortable and cute.
Gift Cards
Everyone says they hate to give gift cards as a gift, but how many people actually hate to get a gift card? I know I love them! It means someone thought of you, but you get to pick what you really want. A few I wouldn’t mind seeing over the holidays:
- Skirtsports (I’m an ambassador, but I don’t make money from your purchase)
- Athleta
- Lululemon
- Title 9
- Oiselle
And if you’re a real last minute shopper, there’s always e-gift cards!
Talk to me. Leave a comment or answer a question:
What small gifts do you always look forward to?
What small gifts do you always give?
What was the last thing you ate (yes, I’m stuck on random like yesterday!)?
I like the Gu/chews idea as a stocking stuffer! I like to get some kind of chocolates or candies from another country that we dont normally eat. Like the german Kinder bars. They have little hippos that are amazing!

Chocolate is always good IMHO. 🙂

I just put that sweaty band on my wishlist. Perhaps I’ll get it for Chanukah.

There’s still time! Really the only headbands that work for me (although now there’s a lot of copycats).

Perfect list. I would want all of this for Christmas!

I don’t know why conventional Holiday wisdom frowns upon giving socks. Even if I wasn’t a runner, i’d love receiving them, especially the. Fuzzy ones! Thanks for linking up.

I know; right? As far as I’m concerned, you can never have too many of the right socks!

You are a good gift giver for any runner! You should definitely let my fam know what to get. Any of those things are awesome. I really like sparkly soul headbands. They actually stay put on my small, but very full of hair, head. Socks are probably my most appreciated running gift though.

I think we have to come up with some sort of social media campaign to let non-runners know that it’s okay to give us sock. More than ok!

All good ideas. Especially since I buy myself what I want. Love my cheap gloves & knee socks!!
Most of my gift giving is to non-runners. Only have the Skirt Sports gift exchange and I don’t divulge what I bought here.

Balega socks are the best! Love the idea of throw-away gloves!

Great list!
I love the throw away gloves idea…never thought of that.
I really need to pay more attention to how my feet feel in certain socks. I have so many but dont think Amy are better than the other.
You had me at Lululemon. …I just love their stuff..my wallet not so much!! Lol!

Oooh, throwaway gloves! YES! Only runners really understand the need for those. haha! And yes, I’m all about the gift cards to my favorite running store! Win win for everyone!

I just got done eating peanut butter on a Ritz cracker.
Knee socks make the best arm warmers for sure 😉
I like the balega padding too, especially in winter. You can’t go wrong with a gift card, I like all your suggestions.

Now just point the hubby that way. 🙂

These are all such great ideas! I would LOVE to get socks! haha. And gel can be so expensive. I would be greatly appreciative if those turned up in my stocking!

I’m Jewish, so we don’t do stockings, but it’s meant to be little gifts (and my husband reads my blog — although he probably doesn’t know my preferences on a lot of that stuff).

I love socks!! I love to get long knee high socks, and funny socks for work.
I love giving people money or gift cards. They are so much easier, and people can get whatever they want with them and that makes me happy.

Seems to be a pretty universal thumbs up for socks amongst runners!

Throwaway gloves! Yes, brilliant! James and I wished we would have had throwaway gloves at Tulsa. I ended up dropping one of mine accidentally on the course somewhere and they were from Brooks. I was heartbroken. As for randomness, I’m eating oatmeal with flax seeds right now as I write, 😀

I never actually seem to throw away the gloves, though . . . that’s what pockets are for.
Oatmeal sounds good. 🙂
I would be heartbroken over losing a good pair of gloves, too. 😦

Confession…the last thing I ate was a handful of miniature spritz cookies (#busted). I totally buy LOTS of cheap gloves for throwaways…and give them to runner friends LOL

I think you’ve got a lot of company with the cookies right now. I’ve been eating cookies almost every day. Healthy ones, but then again, I haven’t been moving all that much.
No wonder I gain weight over the winter!

I agree, I love a good gift card 🙂 My hubby likes to fill my stocking with runner snacks and I love it! Can we ever have to many?

I don’t think my husband would dare to give me food. I’m picky. Except sometimes chocolate. 🙂

I swear, I have those throwaway gloves everywhere! In my car, my workbag–you name it! They are my favorite thing, hands down! Pun intended!

I am such a practical person that I end up giving gift cards often. I prefer buying something I know someone will use.
