I get to run: 12/19-25 Weekly Wrap

An off season just naturally changes my mind set. Feel like adding on a mile? Just do it! Not feeling like running that long — then don’t! And usually I find that if I don’t have goals to meet, sometimes I enjoy my runs more.

I am linking up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin, and all the other Weekly Wrappers — it’s time to unwrap how we all stayed active this week!

Running updates

I like simple & classic lights

Tuesday

When I got home Mr. Judy asked me why I was running in the dark. I told him I actually wanted to. Set out to. I discovered my love of running through the neighborhood decorated for Christmas last year (when it was a whole lot warmer, I must say). But even in the cold, I still enjoy it.

5 easy miles. I set out to do 4. Only in the off season does that happen!

I think I’ve figured out what’s going on with Bandit and running: he doesn’t want a harness on over his jacket. I have to test out that theory a few more times to be sure.

Bandit’s running jacket

Wednesday

Bandit & I ran a 5k. Yes, he’s okay with running more if he doesn’t have a harness on over his jacket; a couple of jackets have rings for the leash. At one point apparently I forgot to get the watch started again after pausing it for a pee break (Bandit, that is, not me), which is why I’m guessing it was a little more than 3 miles.

A run through the park, although this was a neighborhood near it

Friday

Sunday I was going to visit my parents — really doesn’t leave much time (or energy) for a run. Saturday was forecast for wintry mix. Mr. Judy was off on Friday — voila! I realized if I went for a 6 mile run (longest run I’ve done since PCB) I could call it good for the week rather than trying to squeeze in another short run.

It was actually a pretty nice day. I had to be careful around some ice, but it wasn’t too bad and it was naturally negative splits. It’s so nice not training sometimes. Like Nike says — just do it!

Favorites of the week
I’m not sure if this really was a favorite — or maybe it was a little bit too much of a favorite? Skinny Cranberry Bliss Bars from #skinnytaste. I cut them in very small squares, but they still have a #holotta sugar (for me) and I may have overindulged a bit with them. I know what I’m making Thanksgiving 2017! The recipe is pinned on my Pinterest Brownies Board. Mr. Judy approves, and he can be a tough critic of baked goods.

Running for fun, not because I have to. Like the title says, I get to run! I actually wished I could have squeezed in another run this week, but family obligations and weather didn’t cooperate.

Second night of Chrismakkah gift

Mr. Judy noticed I wasn’t super enthusiastic about the shoe holder the first night. Guys are lucky — for most women, you can’t go wrong with jewelry!

And that’s a wrap

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

Let’s get the conversation started:

What was your best Hannukah/Christmas present?

Are you still training, or enjoying running for fun?

Favorite holiday dessert?

  1. Happy Chrismakkah! That’s a lovely necklace. Maybe one reason I haven’t followed a training plan in ages is because I like to run what/where/when I want. Does your watch have an auto-pause feature? When I don’t use it I forget to restart mid-run all the time.

    1. Who says I don’t gift myself? Like, all the time?

It is actually kind of sad that it’s so hard to give great gifts anymore, since it’s so easy to buy what we want — so definitely first world problems.

Hannukah is about small gifts though, and it’s fun and a challenge to come up with something for every night (I usually fall short — I don’t have 8 gifts for Mr. Judy. Yet).

  2. I’ve been running for fun, but also slowly building my consistent base, so hopefully I won’t have to do too much training for my 10k in May. I’ve taken the past couple weeks off with my move, then a week of vacation. I was up to 4 miles, and I’m hoping the break will kickstart me into higher mileage.

  3. Running for fun is the way to go. That being said, I just got a training plan from Rebekah at Run Awaw From Zombies since she just became a coach and wanted to test out her skills. It’s not a racing plan but will mix stuff up a little. Favorite Chanukah gift….not sure. I now have the complete X-Files on blu-ray and Law & Order Crimial Intent in DVD and another large cooling rack. The necklace you got is beautiful!

    1. I would be super happy to be an experiment in coaching for someone.

I think anyway — I get it, though, change can be intimidating.

I never got into the X-Files, but that’s a terrific gift. And for you, a cooling rack is too!

  4. The hubby & I don’t make a big deal of the holidays since the kids grew up. I buy what I want all the time anyway.

But he insists on buying jewelry which I tell every year that I don’t need any more. Men!!!

  5. This year, most of my “gifts” were purchased by me (great deals several weeks prior to the holidays), and I just told the hubby he “was done.” LOL He did surprise me with a gift card to our local biking store (I buy my gels there). I’ve gotten so I don’t really care about the gifts anyways…I usually buy stuff (for me) as I need it, and don’t expect to be flooded with stuff from others (but I do appreciate the thought behind sentimental gifts). We have to click Max’s leash onto his collar when he wears his sweater or else we’d have to be constantly adjusting the harness. I suppose we could splurge and spend the extra $7 for an additional harness and just keep that one “sized bigger.” Hmmm…..

    1. I don’t like to do their leashes on their collars — little dogs’ necks are delicate (and Bandit can pull pretty good). I just need to find a couple more jackets with the D rings (Homegoods & Marshalls are good places but he’s hard to fit!).

I always tell my husband that I have enough, or have bought enough, but I know he’s always going to get me stuff anyway.

  6. Happy Hannukah ! Glad you got to run this week despite the weather.
What is this Betty Rocker thing you spoke about ?
I don’t have Pinterest but I probably should. I see it as another social media thing that I have to keep up with. Do you like it ?

    1. Betty Rocker is just another fitness sight I enjoy. She put out a Hotter for the Holidays email for her list, which I’m on — they’re mostly short, intense workouts. But you have your own workouts!

As to Pinterest, because I like to cook/bake so much, I don’t see it as a social media thing at all (which explains my pitiful amount of followers). I use it to find recipes! And organize them so I can actually find them again.

  7. I’m with you …I much prefer the classic, simplicity of traditional Christmas lights! Yours look very pretty! Sounds like you got in quite a bit of running and enjoyed every mile …that is what it’s all about! I also find that I actually appreciate and enjoy running much more when I don’t have a schedule dictating how far and how often to run. Just because I can and I want to …not because I have to! Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas Judy!

  8. Nice job with your runs! It looks like Bandit is getting the hang of it! I admire all of you who run with dogs…I don’t think I would have the patience, lol!

Love the necklace! Hope you’re having a Happy Hanukkah!
