The Goldilocks of dogs: TOLT

I’m Thinking Out Loud about how to motivate yourself to clean, what trends I like — and don’t like, and just how impossible it seems to find a sweater that fits Bandit.

A ball throwing senior moment
I was going to throw the ball for Bandit one day last weekend (it was too cold to walk the dogs). I had a thought about something to write in this post, told him I’d be back in a minute (like he understood), walked in here, created this post and . . . nothing.

In the time it had taken me to walk from the laundry to the office (like, a minute) I’d forgotten what great insight I was going to share with you.

Tutus and Tennies shared a meme in this post about how getting lucky is walking into a room and remembering why you did last week.

How to motivate yourself to clean
Invite your runner friends over. Seriously, I got to thinking that since the group (hopefully) going to the half in September is made up of people who don’t all know each other, wouldn’t it be nice if we got together and did get to know each other?

So I invited them to brunch. On the week I lose a day to go down to my parents. 7 women (potentially) and myself and Mr. Judy. We only have 8 chairs. And a small house.

I did warn them to beware of cat dander and dog hair.

Not team #bathleisure
No, I didn’t misspell that — not athleisure, but bathleisure is now a thing. Actually, I think it’s been a thing for a while. I am not a fan.

What is bathleisure, you ask? Wearing pajamas and bathrobes in every day life. Of course a lot of people already do that, but we’re talking nice pajamas here. You won’t catch me intentionally in my pajamas, unless at I’m at home or out in the backyard withe the dogs.

Athleisure — yes, I’m all about living in workout clothes.

I miss the Wednesday Word
And yet I’m happy that Deb @ Debruns has taken it to monthly. I really enjoy the Wednesday Word because it’s always a challenge, but I find I often don’t get around to writing posts on my t0-do list because they don’t seem to fit into a linkup or because I’m so busy linking up that I can’t do justice to a post.

So I’m finally taking the opportunity to step back and try to write a little less quantity, but hopefully a little more quality. Really all depends on what’s on my plate.

Lola’s not sure about the sweater

Bandit is really Goldilocks
I swear he is the hardest dog to find sweaters and jackets for. They are either too big or too small and almost nothing seems to fit just right. The latest size “medium” sweater Mr. Judy bought for him is what Lola is wearing above . . . isn’t she styling in her cropped sweater?

But we’re sure the M doesn’t fit Bandit

Vanity sizing is rampant in dog clothing, too.

Just yesterday I was walking the dogs and someone with another dog walked by us on the other side of the road, twice. The second time they commented how well behaved my dogs were. I got a snicker out of that; people sure do set the bar low when it comes to dogs!

On the other hand, the previous night when Mr. Judy went to get Bandit to go downstairs with him, Bandit growled at him. Definitely disturbing. Was he actually growling at Mr. Judy, or did he hear something? He still bears watching; we already know that he has guarding tendencies, although they seem to come and go. Every time we think they’re gone for good, suddenly one day he gets possessive about something.

Talk to me. Tell me in the comments:

Is bathleisure a trend or here to stay?

Is the hard part of having people over making sure your house is presentable?

What ways do YOU motivate yourself to clean?

  1. I know exactly how you feel about Wednesday Word and that’s pretty much why I switched it up to monthly. Today I posted something I’d been meaning to post for almost a year, but never found time to fit it in…

I have a couple of pairs of Virginia Tech flannel pants like the ones you see out and about on people all the time, but I just can’t wear them out in public – except at Ragnar races. There anything seems to go!

Hope you find a sweater for Bandit!

  2. I get into my pjs early in the evening after preparing breakfast and lunch for the next day, but pjs all day, nice or not, a definite no. Yoga pants or loose comfortable clothing, a.k.a. work-out/running duds, oh yeah. Big fat yeah.

    1. I have been known to stay in my pjs all day on rare occasions . . . snowy days where I don’t have to go out and shovel (which is rare, there’s always some touch up to do to the snow blowing).

Sometimes I’ll get into them at night, too, but I try not to do it too often . . . too easy to eat too much in comfy clothes!

    1. The front porch is not going out.

I am often out in my pjs in the backyard early in the morning with the dogs. Our neighbor, who works the night shift, is often out there with his in the middle of the day, but he does have a privacy fence — sometimes I see him from upstairs.

  3. Bathleisure…nope. Not even if I’m sick. I’ll take sweats and a comfy sweatshirt but pajamas all day? No way.

And yes to the making my house presentable! I have 5 animals so trying to eliminate all – or at least most – of the pet dander and dog smell is definitely a challenge! Haha. Fur babies – gotta love ’em. 🙂 And as for cleaning motivation, I usually put on my favorite music and jam out while I’m cleaning. Gets me up and moving. There may or may not be dance breaks. haha

  4. I hear ya. When I have mah jongg at my house, I have to make sure everything is spotless. I have a friend who is allergic to cats. other wise, I am pretty lax and clean but clutter, I hate it. Tabletops and counters must have nothing on them (My hubby disagrees.)

Nope since I never workout at home, I don’t wear my workout clothes at home. I also am in the habit of getting up and getting dressed right away – the work thing again. I have to bring running clothes and or tennis clothes to work and then clothes for going out after – that 3 outfits most days UGH!!

    1. Nothing will be spotless and there will be things on the counter. But it’s a #holotta cleaner now (although would never pass a white glove test).

Course I’ll be gone all day tomorrow and my husband will be working from home — it better be in mostly the same condition by the time I get home!

I like my quiet time in the mornng, although I have gotten back into the habit of doing something (yoga, pilates) pretty much first thing when I get up. I sleep in my race tees right now so that works really well!
