Getting it done: 1/16-22 Weekly Wrap

I was kind of dragging when I ran with Darlene on Monday. By Tuesday afternoon I was exhausted. I took it easy on Wednesday, but I still felt really tired by the afternoon. Thankfully by the end of the week, despite some unexpected healthy problem with my Dad, I was feeling better and that meant better feeling runs, too.

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin to show you where and when I’m running — won’t you join us and show us where and how you stay active?

Monday

Since Mr. Judy doesn’t have MLK day off, I didn’t think about anyone else having it off. But Darlene did, and because of the warm weather last week, we hit up one of my favorite paths for some recovery miles.

I don’t think I’ve ever run there during the winter before, because usually the path is covered with snow and/or ice. We kept hearing these noises, and it wasn’t until we finished and I stopped to take some photos that I realized it was the river moving — the ice on it crashing into things.

My legs were tired from our race the day before, but clearly Darlene wasn’t.

Nothing pretty on the run; no energy before/during/after!

Thursday

Bandit got so excited as I changed into running clothes and did my warmup. He clearly enjoys running with me. I did my first couple of miles with him before dropping him off at the house.

This run was a struggle from beginning to end. I’ve been super tired this week — hope I’m not coming down with anything — and despite an extra rest day on Wednesday, I didn’t get enough sleep the previous night.

It felt easier once I dropped Bandit off, but it never felt easy at all. And I search and searched for something to take a photo of outside . . . it was a chilly gray day (although warm enough that the freezing rain from Tuesday was completely gone) and I couldn’t find anything photogenic.

Friday

Friday’s run was an epic fail — in my choice of where to run, that is. I decided to take Bandit with me to one of my favorite little trails, since all our snow and ice is gone. What I didn’t take into account was how wet it’s been and that this is a trail, not a paved path.

It’s just a little trail, not a technical trail, but when you factor in sneaker sucking mud and some remnants of ice . . . let’s just say it was way slower than it ought to have been.

I’ve also gotta say Bandit was a trooper. Poor guy got so muddy. Someday when it’s a whole lot nicer we’ll go back. There aren’t usually a lot of people there, so it’s nice to know that I can go there and feel a little more secure with Bandit along.

Saturday

My father was admitted to the hospital. Let’s just say it’s not good thing, but he also shouldn’t be there long. We hope. My sister said there was no reason to come down. I wanted to get my long run out of the way anyway — I just had a strong feeling it was better to get it done and have Sunday free. Just in case.

Sometimes a solo run is just what the doctor ordered. It might even have been a little too fast, especially considering it was my third running day in a row — but it always feels good to run hard when I’m stressed. I’m glad I could, and I’m glad I finally got to see the sun for a little while.

Favorites of the week
In general this week was kind of meh. We went out for sushi and stopped at my favorite local chocolate place afterwards yesterday– a nice reward for those 7 miles. And I had buttered popcorn at the movies (Hidden Figures) again. My Dad is still in the hospital, but seems better — and now I have jury duty tomorrow. With wintry mix moving in. And apparently about a mile walk from where you park to the courthouse. I could use some stay safe vibes!

And that’s a wrap

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

Let’s get the conversation started:

Would love to hear something good about your week!

#teamloathejuryduty or #teamjurydutyisfascinating?

What was the last movie you saw — do you remember?

  1. Jury duty. I have nothing but BAD experiences with that civil obligation. i was summoned twice (within a 6-week period, i kid you not) when I had just started a new job. My training was a mess…and having to serve twice had me forgetting almost everything I had learned from that brief window of training between the two juries. Fast forward to about 4 or 5 years later…I had little kids at home and no family around to help me. I got summoned twice (or three?) times then, as well. Now that all my kids are grown and not “dependent” on me, I have not gotten one summons. I have the time and flexibility to gladly serve…and nothing!

    1. I served several times in TX. Always picked. HATED it. You’re supposed to be able to defer it, but when I tried to, it says you have to do it at least a week prior . . . and I just got it like a week ago!

  2. I hope your dad continues to improve. Yay for hot chocolate and buttered popcorn after 7 miles at the end of a tired week! Ugh….jury duty. Hopefully it goes well. I just got a letter for the week of 2/21…at least its a short week.

  3. I hope your Dad is doing better and will be released soon. That’s got to be stressful on you. You’re right. There certainly isn’t much to take pictures of right now. I’m happy to hear Bandit is doing well and loves to go running! How many miles is he up to now? Thanks for linking, Judy.

    1. He can do 3 miles — run/walking, of course. I usually don’t take him that long because there’s also a lot of stopping & peeing (I pause the watch), which just adds onto it. I imagine he wouldn’t be doing as long when it’s warmer.

  4. I loved Hidden Figures!! Saw 20th Century Women. It was NOT good.

I think we are just going to get rain in this storm.

I’ve never had jury duty. I would love to – many reasons – civic duty #1 and #2 to get out of work.

I didn’t go all out on the race (had a pretty slow time probably due to being garmin-less). That’s why I had all kinds of energy.

    1. That’s too bad about 20th Century Women. I was thinking maybe we should try to go see Patriot’s Day as another Wineglass getogether (if there’s interest)?

This is my fifth time on jury duty, but obviously I was not chosen! Yipeekayay!

Seriously, I have done my civic duty, and I can’t even imagine trying to get down there tomorrow if they’re right about the forecast.

      1. I usually take the bus when I go downtown. I hate the parking situation.

I’ve heard mixed review of Patriot’s Day. It heard it’s more about finding the guy with the bomb than about the race.

Have you ever been to Denise’s house? It’s amazing – a Vangard house like the ones they give tours of.

      2. No, I’ve never been to her house.

And of course the movie isn’t about the race. Guess I’ll just have to throw it out there & see what people think. I’m pretty sure Lloyd would like to see it, actually.

  5. I’ve done jury duty once in Massachusetts and once in Texas. Both times I made sure to give answers to make sure I wouldn’t get picked. Massachusetts was so much more organized and efficient too, Texas took forever. When the DA has a slideshow for the jury, you know you’re in for it.

    1. All my previous jury duty experiences were in TX, but Austin was pretty organized.

Today? Not so much at all. I can’t lie, but I was truly able to give them answers today that made them pass on me as a juror, and that made me really happy. 🙂

    1. Woohoo! Excellent news, Michelle. I am so, so happy for you. My guess is you won’t be wrapping soon because you’ll be getting back together as a family, which is awesome. Thank him for his service, k?

I haven’t talked to my sister yet since I was out this morning with the jury duty (and thankfully released). My dad was actually diagnosed with congestive heart failure this weekend. We think it’s been going on a long time, and why his cardiologist didn’t catch it — let’s just say I don’t think I really like ANY of my parents’ doctors.

So he’s feeling a lot better because he’s on meds now, but my guess is eventually it will get him. That’s what Chester died from. Different, of course, but my Dad will be 91 in a couple of months, so. . . we aren’t supposed to live forever, but these last 5 or so years have been tough.

      1. My heart goes out to you. I can’t even pretend to understand. Know you’ve got a friend/shoulder if you need. And yes. You’re right. Probably at least a few weeks while we get adjusted but I’ll be back at it by mid march!!

      2. Thanks, Michelle. Frankly, my Dad is a difficult man. If it had been my mother, that’s a different story.

But the last few years have been hard, watching both my parents become so much less than they were. The circle of life, I guess.

OTOH, while they had many tragedies in their lives, they also lived very, very well. They did the things they loved, they traveled the world, they were always more socially active than I will ever be!

  6. I’m glad that your dad is feeling better. Sorry your week was on the blah side…I love that Bandit enjoys running with you even though he got a little muddy!

I’ve never been picked for jury duty…I always get rejected! The last movie I saw was Hidden Figures and as a black female engineer, I LOVED it!

    1. Even as a white decidedly not engineer, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It just shocks me that we never even heard this story before this movie! Or at least I didn’t. Makes you wonder how many stories we haven’t heard???

      I wasn’t picked. Happy dance. 🙂

  7. Hi, I am glad to hear that your father is feeling better. I just wanted to say that I am so impressed with your exercise regimen. Me, personally, I prefer walking and hiking, but am constantly searching for inspiration and motivation to push me towards liking and enjoying running too…I guess I’m not a running person though. I wish you all the best, and will be following your blog!
