Chagrined Furkids: TOLT

Last week when the weather was so nice, and we actually saw the sun, I took some time and took some photos of all the furkids. Who apparently all looked chagrined — both Lola & Gizmo actually like the camera — a little too much sometimes — but apparently this particular day that’s all I could capture.

Don’t worry, I’m Thinking Out Loud about other things today, like congrats to Amanda on the her cookbook coming out!

My half is a bit more than three weeks away
And yet I have already added the city to my weather app. Not so much to stalk — not yet, anyway — just out of curiosity.

That might not have been the best idea. 86% humidity — and there is still three weeks to go? I told Rachel @ Runningonhappy that I wanted to train for a PR, although I absolutely do not expect one. First off, I know that all the stars have to align for a PR and that doesn’t happen often.

I also know that it can take way more than a couple of months of training. And that I don’t do well in humidity (do I really have to show my ZOOMA Annapolis picture . . . again?

I’m not giving up, though. You never know, there could be a miracle like there was in FL. I’ll continue to train hard and look forward to meeting up with Tricia and Mary Beth again.

I understand the purpose of a tempo run, but . . .
. . . as I was doing it this week, the thought crossed my mind that the real purpose of a tempo run (when you have a coach) is to feel so hard that when race day comes, you are happy to run at an easier pace. If racing can ever feel easier!

An unexpected compliment
There I was, just laying face up on the chiropractor’s table when she asked me if I strength trained in addition to my running. And proceeded to tell me what amazing arms I have. I won’t lie; it totally made my day. I don’t think anyone has ever complimented me on my arms.

I know the muscle is there, but it’s mostly hidden under fat and saggy skin from gaining and losing a fair amount of weight on more than one occasion. So while I know it’s there, I rarely see it when I look at pictures of myself. Especially when I’m standing next to Darlene, who has great arms naturally (and from playing tennis).

You know her from Running with Spoons . . .
. . . and the Thinking Out Loud Thursdays. That would be today, obviously. But if you’re not a regular reader of Running with Spoons, did you know that Amanda has a cookbook out? She does. Flourless bars, muffins, and cookies — get it here (Amazon Affiliate link).

Amanda is such a genius at creating tasty recipes that are healthy, too. I can’t wait to dive into her creations (and no, I did not receive a review copy, womp womp).

You can still run Utah with me
And maybe meet a few of your favorite bloggers. I don’t have any more entries up for grabs, but code crj15 will get you 15% off your race entry (register here).

Come for the mostly downhill Boston Qualifier course, finish for the 10th anniversary jacket. Don’t forget to let me know if you do register — I’d love to meet you! It’s gonna be a party.

He has no shame

Bandit, Noooooo!
Actually, this one is kind of humorous. So we let the dogs out, and we’re chatting, and Lola squats to do her business. We were actually discussing the fact that Bandit stalks Lola much when she’s getting ready to pee, just like Chester did. And we were disagreeing (of course) — Mr. Judy saying he wasn’t as bad as Chester, me saying most of the time he is.

And the next thing we know (Bandit has been stalking Lola while we’re discussing this, naturally), Bandit lifts his leg right next to poor Lola and for all the world it looks like he’s peeing on her. And she doesn’t even flinch.

blola3217
Apparently neither does she

Apparently he didn’t actually pee on her, but it sure looked like he did!

I think he was just looking for treats

Bandit is doing pretty well, though, and just the other day I told him when it’s warmer, we’ll take him to Guptils (local ice cream place). The humans were enjoying some Halo Top, which the dogs can’t have because it has sugar alcohols (not good for them; not really great for humans, either, but a little bit occasionally . . . ).

Although we got Bandit last summer, we never took him. Because, you know, we were afraid of him attacking little kids and random strangers.

Talk to me. Tell me in the comments:

Do your furkids get ice cream?

What is your favorite hard workout — you know, the one you love to hate?

What body part are you proudest of?

I’m linking up with Amanda at Running with Spoons for her:

Thursdays are for thinking out loud

    1. Frosty Paws? What’s that?

Lola has decided she must camp out by the table almost every night as we finish up dinner, just in case. We don’t feed her from the table, and yet she still comes to it.

I’m doing the Best Damn Race in NOLA.

      1. Frosty Paws is packaged ice cream for dogs. The grocery where I shop has put up signs to tell patrons it is for pet consumption only!

  1. I never tire of these furkid photos, chagrined or not. They are all equally adorable. Despite (or perhaps because of them?) his issues, I think Bandit is one of the cutest dogs I’ve ever seen.

Have fun in Utah. I’ll be here in RI lamenting that I’m not running. Maybe in the spring…..

    1. First up is New Orleans, actually — that one is coming up quickly!

Bandit is very cute. Mr. Judy often says that is animals’ only defense — they’re cuteness.

I’m no longer worried about him attacking people, but boy, if we take him to the ice cream place, he’s going to be a wild child (with excitement).

      Animals get cabin fever too!

      1. I would never have thought that, Connie! I’ve only been once too, and that time was work for me, which is why I am excited to go back. My guess is it’s probably the last time we’ll go there, but who knows?

  2. Weather stalking is crazy. A week ago it was predicted to be 89 degrees and sunny. Now it looks like the weekend will be 70, cloudy and windy. So much for that vitamin D. I also predict that it might change again. I don’t know why I care. I can’t do anything about it. And I always wear a tank and a skirt no matter what.

When I look at my arms, I see the sagging skin. UGH! And it’s not from losing and gaining weight. Your skin losing its elasticity as you age. The only cure, I think is plastic surgery LOL.

    1. Yes, I know you lose elasticity. Take my word for it though, the sagging skin on my arms goes way beyond that. Losing & gaining & then losing again that much weight — yeah, that is why people get plastic surgery & I draw the line there!

      1. I have a lot of saggy skin everywhere. I don’t particularly like it, but since I’m not going to have surgery and I already strength train, not much I can do about it.

  3. Malika gets some of Greg’s dairy free frozen dessert sometimes. It depends on the flavor. She loves Cool Whip. I’m proud of my legs….they’re strong.

    1. I did it in 2015 & it was almost my worst half ever. The course wasn’t that bad — not compared to some that I’ve done — but that heat & humidity were the worst (and the fact that they ran out of water).

  4. My dogs don’t get ice cream, but I spoil them every day with bites of my banana in the mornings and when I’m packing my lunch for work, they stalk me because they know I’ll give them a baby carrot! 🙂 I’d have to say that I love to hate deadlifts and pushing the prowler around the gym, but I love the results I’m getting from doing those things. My arms are much more muscular now, and so are my legs and buns! Can’t wait to hear how your HM goes! NOLA should be a lot of fun!

    1. Hi Katherine! Bandit is a fairly new-to-us senior rescue dog — we’ve had him a little over half a year, and he’s approximately 8 yrs old.

So the short answer is no, we don’t know what he is. According to his records a JRT/Chi mix, but having owned chis, I don’t personally see that in him.

I ran into someone at a park who had a very similar looking dog, and she also didn’t know what breeds it was — she though maybe doxie/hound.

Hound makes sense to me — he makes some really odd noises! Although he’s not good at sniffing stuff out, either.

      1. Yeah I don’t quite know what Millie is either! My guess is dachshund / Jack Russel but I am not sure. Anyways, your pup is super cute! And kuddos for rescuing a senior dog 🙂 I hope to do that some day when I have the means for a second pup.

      2. Well, if you do a search on Bandit on my blog, you’ll find it wasn’t a good experience in the beginning. Far from it.

Some dogs are super adaptable . . . Bandit wasn’t. But he’s doing pretty good now.

All our dogs have been rescues, but this is our first senior rescue.

I think doxie is right on with that long back, although my husband is sticking to jackchi.

  5. I don’t do ice cream a lot but when I do, there’s usually a cat hanging around waiting to lick the bowl. Stalkers. Haha! The dogs don’t get ice cream. Unless Max has a seizure (like at 5:30 this morning) and then the sugar in the ice cream helps his system balance back out after it’s over. So, I always have vanilla in the freezer. I bought that doggy ice cream before but it freezes too solid. I know that sounds weird but he can’t eat it and it takes FOREVER when it’s a solid brick. So, Breyer’s it is! Your pups are so cute. I’m glad Bandit didn’t actually do his business on Lola. That would have been messy to clean up. Ugh. Favorite body part – definitely my shoulders. 🙂
