Lucky 13?
Racecations are both terribly exciting and a little bit crazy, what with all the work that goes into the front end. For some reason this time I found myself oddly calm. Was it all the meditating? Getting so used to “traveling” every week? Getting really organized because of my extra “travel”?
No idea, but I wish I could feel that way before most vacations.
I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin and actually hope to join up with Tricia in the flesh this week.

Running updates
Wednesday
My first run in NOLA. It was hot & hard, but not as bad as I feared.
Thursday
Started out slow but picked it up last 2 miles.
This run gave me some confidence that I would handle the heat. Good thing I didn’t know how hot & humid race day would be.
Hot, humid, but flat – a hard fought PR.
Favorites of the week
Except for race day & one day with some rain, the weather was awesome.
Actually race day was nice weather–just not for racing.
All the carbs.
And that’s a wrap
This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.
Let’s get the conversation started:
Do your PRs surprise you?
I’m very impressed with your PR in those conditions! Cute medal too. But…you left us hanging. We need details. Thanks for linking, Judy.

You’ll get details . . . eventually. 😊

I don’t know about the race, but that is the Best Damn Bling I think I’ve ever seen – so fun! Congrats on your PR! That’s fantastic!

I know; right? Almost the best thing about the race. 😊 Damn heavy, though!

I agree with Coco. Best damn bling. Can’t wait to hear more.

It is pretty sweet. I do a lot of small races & most of the time the bling is fairly plain. I’m sure you’ve already heard a lot from MB. I only saw her like 2 seconds.

Fantastic PR and awesome bling to show for it. So proud of you. Can’t wait to hear more!

Surprised? Coach + solid training + flat course = PR.
I think we both do not do well on hills. My last 2 Prs were on flat courses too. Unfortunately my next one is very hilly I am told.
I rarely expect a PR and never train for one. But if the course is flat, I know that it’s a possibility. For me the course seems to matter more than the weather (cold for one PR and warm for other PR).
Anyway, congrats. You deserved it.

Some of my previous PRs were on very hilly courses. But my body definitely enjoys flat! My next few won’t be but I’ll probably dial training back a bit & target Wineglass for my next big goal race.
No matter how hard I work, I never assume anything about a race. Except VT (also very hilly, also a PR) — that one I did just have a feeling about.

I did have PRs on hilly ones in the beginning but I mean my really fast times – under 2:10. But yes, flat is easier on the body. Too bad, we don’t live in Fla. (except for those nasty bridges.)

I highly doubt I will ever have a half that fast! I think taking another 20 minutes off my times is kind of unrealistic. Or masochistic.

Just look how much you have already taken off your time. Like 30 minutes.

35. But who’s counting? Still, it’s always going to vary race to race. And you’ve actually taken off just as much from your very first one, too!

My 2nd was 2:22. My last one was 2:18. My first was 2:26. So 17 minutes.
I am still happy with my first half time actually. I’ve been slower many times.

nice one Judy!! I don’t do well in heat and humidity so my hat’s definitely off to you!
I would so love to run in NOLA… one of these years… 🙂

Believe me, I don’t do well in humidity either! I was lucky most (but not all) of the course was shady.

I always thought a race in NOLA would be fun, with all the food options for post-race fueling, but the humidity. Great job PR-ing.

Congrats!!!! I have had PR’s surprise me (more often than not), and those are the ones I appreciate because they’re usually on tough courses, or in adverse weather in races that I’m just “giving my all” and trying to fight the circumstances. As I’ve said, anyone can PR an easy race on a “perfect” day, but it’s the hard-fought ones that mean something 😉

Well, my previous PR was a flat course on almost a perfect day, so I hear you.
This was a flat course but definitely not a perfect weather day for me!

Stay tuned for where we ate tomorrow 🙂
We’re back to cold & grayness, although much of the snow is melted and it’s much warmer than when we left. It’s hard to leave all that lovely sunshine!

Congrats on the PR Judy – I kind of knew it would happen from your 12 Miler during your training! I’m sure this feels fantastic!! I want to run New Orleans, too!

The next run wasn’t anywhere near as good as that 12 miler, plus the whole heat & humidity thing . . .
It was the worst day of the trip as far as that went. The good news was that it was mostly cloudy for much of the race and there was a lot of shade on the course.
I was still pretty surprised I pulled it off!
