As in, NY is done. Mr. Judy has been giving me grief over the fact that I hadn’t yet done NY for ever (I live in NY, if you didn’t know that). I’m so happy that I was able to share it with 9 running friends — some old, some new; a little sad that I couldn’t share it with Mr. Judy, but I’ll bet he’s actually rather happy about that.

If we were enjoying high tea . . .
I’d tell you that I am happy to have all my halfs for 2017 done. It is definitely time for some rest (and somehow my fingers typed race!).

Of course Mr. Judy asked if I was done now. Such a silly question. Well, I’m done with halfs for the year, but that doesn’t mean I stop running completely. But I will be dialing things back.

I’d tell you I wish I had my 2018 races mapped out. It was kind of sweet knowing when my halfs would be in 2017. I have a few ideas, I have research to do, and I’m waiting to hear back about something, too.

And the Wineglass girls want a repeat performance . . . not necessarily at Wineglass. I think it’s gonna be hard to get 10 women to decide and commit (more, really, a couple had to drop out due to injury).

I’d say that, as usual, I indulged my sweet tooth big time during my Wineglass weekend. We found the best bakery — Poppleton Bakery — go there if you’re ever in Corning . . . I bought something to have after the half, only we stopped in after the half, and I may or may not have bought something else . . . but eaten the cupcake too . . . I guess that really ought to have been saved for a runfession!

The hard part is reigning that sweet tooth back in now that I’m back home and basically barely moving — I need a bigger break this time, especially with nothing big on the horizon!

Somehow I managed to not gain any weight. Thank you, lucky weigh-in dress.

I’d tell you that in September our dishwasher broke. Only apparently it didn’t, really. After a week of washing everything by hand and Mr. Judy tinkering with it, then getting out a repair man . . . you guessed it — he couldn’t find anything wrong with it.

Which cost us $100. Thankfully we haven’t had any more problems with it but don’t you just hate when that happens?

I’d tell you that I don’t think I can top 2017: if you count my trail half (my first trail half, also my slowest half ever), I PR’d every single half. So far I didn’t PR a single shorter race, but then again, I didn’t do many shorter races.

I’m pragmatic — I know that this streak won’t last forever, but I don’t just run for PRs. Of course everyone loves a PR, but it’s not why I run (but it’s why I train hard). So thank you, 2017 and Rachel @ Runningonhappy — it’s been grand!

Not that I’m done with 2017 . . . I am not signed up for any races, but I have a few I’m eyeing. The first up might be a 10k next weekend. A new one to me, but everyone seems to love this one. I think I was always on a racecation at this time in years past . . .

Tea? Iced Tea? Coffee? Decaf? Or something else?

  1. Enjoy some relaxation now! I much prefer coffee over tea. I loved putting flavored creamers in my coffee but recently have been trying to drink it black but it is just not the same. Congrats on your race! I love indulging after a race too. I like going for brunch and getting pancakes!

    1. Oh, I’m definitely relaxing! No problem. 🙂

      Pancakes are good. 🙂 They had a pretty good spread after the race and after we finally all found each other, we didn’t actually have enough time to eat a meal! Some were leaving that afternoon.

      I’ve been *mostly* successful with reigning it back in — especially since I’m not moving much this week at all!

  2. Believe it or not I didn’t really indulge except for the ice cream the day BEFORE the race. We didn’t stop for lunch on the way home. I was supposed to go out to dinner with my friends and got home too late. (Not even sure if I had dinner…too busy catching up after 3 days not home.)

    I don’t usually repeat races except that did Palio again as a training run. I do repeat shorter races even 10m, 15k and 8.4 milers if I like them

    I hope we have good weather for the 10k – it was cold last year and raining the year before, etc.

    Congrats again on all your PRs!!! I need some for shorter ones too. Mine are from 2014 or 2015.

    1. On Monday when I got home I had a protein bar & some fruit for dinner . . . but we did have a very late lunch that day.

      I barely ran any short races this year. Too much family stuff going on. Looking like I won’t be able to do Stockadeathon for the same reason. 😦

      1. We went back to Jellybeans for dinner. Some of the others wanted to go to Bob Evans, since they’d enjoyed it the previous day, but I suggested Jellybeans since it’s local. I *think* everyone enjoyed it.

  3. What a great running year for 2017 (and it isn’t even over)! After I’ve completed a huge goal race, I usually buy something I’ve been eyeing or treat myself to a spa day. My plan for after Houston marathon in January is a vacay to FL to swim with the manatees (I’m really excited about that)!

    1. Well, I used to buy myself something after a half but there’s been too many this year! Plus the travel itself for most was really the reward.

      A FL vacation sounds pretty awesome. Except you guys don’t need to escape the cold like we do! I know it does get cold there, but trust me, it ain’t like up here.

  4. After races I like to get a pedicure, but I didn’t end up getting one after the Bolder Boulder. I just got one too for my cousin’s wedding, so I’m not sure what I’ll do after Vegas. Maybe go down the strip to Margaritaville right after the 10k?

    1. It’s been a great year vacation/race-wise, but much of the rest of the year was very stressful and sucked. Different stress than yours, but stressful nonetheless.

      Hoping 2018 will be less stressful. I hope that every year and so far I haven’t been lucky in that department.

      Which is why you have to enjoy the good things, and there was plenty of good things too. Just like you look like you’re having an amazing sister vacation!

  5. Funny how our finger do things like that! I have a dishwasher and never use it! In fact, I get really frustrated with my husband when he does! He doesn’t pay attention to what is dishwasher safe and isn’t! And it’s kind of sad because our new house has a top of the line dishwasher! However, I am pretty much a top of the line dishwasher too! ;o)

    1. I totally don’t get people who don’t use their dishwashers. It was such a pain washing everything by hand. I have better uses for my time (but then again, I truly loathe cleaning in all its many forms).

    1. Thanks, Teresa! Some of the races I’m considering in 2018 will be very tough. I’m pretty sure there won’t be a repeat performance, but that’s okay! As long as I don’t go backwards too much. 🙂

      1. Generally I run about 4 x week, so that does usually mean a couple of back to back runs. The trick is to never do 2 hard workouts back to back. So if you do a tempo, or speedwork, the next run should be an easy run.

        Everyone is different, though, and it’s really a matter of finding what works for YOU. Which just takes trial & error (or a good coach!).

    1. Oh, the dishwasher was probably the least stressful thing going on in my life! We haven’t really figured it out, but despite having to shell out $100, am still glad we don’t need a new one already.

  6. What a great year so far!! I’m sure you can add a few races before the year closes out.

    I love a good cawfee and Chick Fil A has an awesome iced cawfee!!

    We have our repeat race(s), like Louisiana!! I am slowly get the Hubs to broaden his horizons on our January racing!! I have added Run with Donna in February, this has been on the list for years and it’s happening in 2018!!
