Turkey Talk: 10/30-11/5 Weekly Wrap

With the exception of Monday, it was nice running this week, even if it was all over the place. Weather whiplash indeed, from running in a skirt & tee one day to tights and a jacket a couple of days later.

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin to get started talking Turkey.

  • Monday: 5 easy treadmill miles, DM , JY Calf & Foot Reset
  • Tuesday: Dogwalk, 5 miles easy
    Wednesday: YFR Foundation & Hamstrings, Dogwalk, DM Abs & Arms, Swim 30 minutes (2 laps with kickboard)
  • Thursday:  Dogwalk, 4 miles easy with 3 x Hill Repeats
  • Friday:  Dogwalk, DM Glutes & Abs
  • Saturday: 8 Mile LSD, DM Abs
  • Sunday: JY Hip & Hamstring reset, Dogwalk

A cool, dreary, windy day — yes, I could’ve run outside, but chose the treadmill instead.

Still cold, but not as windy and sunny for the win! I went to the park and some of the surrounding neighborhood. I had every intention of taking a photo of some of the cute decorations, and then ran right past them. Oops.

Nothing spooky about this Halloween run other than the fact that I seem to be pretty good at negative splits — even when I’m not watching my pace.

Crazy weather — I was able to run in the afternoon in a tee and skirt (and probably could’ve gone to a tank). I threw in some hill repeats because my 15k next weekend is hilly.

We had Wineglass weather for our run today — except it was sunny. Perfect running weather IMHO. I dressed perfectly for me. And while I did my own thing and some ran together, it was a speedy run (for me — I always struggle saying that because for the average runner it would be really slow!).

I was very surprised that the last mile was the fastest. Like, almost a minute faster than any other mile. I had no idea!

Favorites of the week
Sweet potato protein cookies. You’ll find the recipe on my protein bars/cookies board on Pinterest here. I also made the energy balls from The Plant Power Way by Richard Roll (Amazon Affiliate link) — picked that up on sale a week or so ago — so much chocolaty goodness using only dates for sweetness!

I’d been eyeing those pancakes all summer; still want to try some of the awesome looking baked goods, too!

I’ve got to be pretty careful with those sweets for the next few weeks, although that didn’t stop me from ordering the chocolate chocolate chip pancakes after my long run on Saturday. I’ve been wanting to try them all summer . . . not sure 8 miles was enough, but they sure hit the spot — and I only ate half of them.

Still loving my Alexa Dot Echo. I called my mother with it (apparently it’s free? we’re still not sure). We have an Internet phone at home, so real receivers, but I just told Alexa to dial the number and talked to my mom — she said it sounded better.

I’ve begun Thanksgiving prep. Soup is made; will let it sit a couple of days in the fridge to let the flavors marry, then freeze it. Made the base for cranberry bars and stuck those in the freezer, too (they just need to be iced with cream cheese frosting a bit before the holiday. Mr. Judy does the stuffing, and I just have to make up my mind about sides and bake a few more desserts.

And clean, of course. Lots of cleaning to be done. How I wish that could be done ahead of time!

  1. Loved watching the NYC marathon. So inspiring.

    The food is the best. I wish I could host. I prefer to make my favorites but my mil is a pain. We’ll order out again 😦

      1. Unfortunately I’ll be out of town most of the weekend before, which is why I’ve gotten an early start.

        http://www.blueberryhillrestaurants.com is really good, but it’s off strip (we had a car when we went to it — for both halfs there!).

        The buffet at Wicked Spoon — don’t remember which hotel — was really good, at least it was 4 years ago. The line took forever, though. Most of the buffets are just meh. They do have one at Paris, too, which is good (and also popular and also a long line).

      2. Don’t have a car so will stick to the strip and use the monorail. I did go to Vegas with the tennis ladies for 5 years in a row but haven’t been in 10 years. Try to avoid the buffets (although they are cheaper) because of the lines and the temptation to overeat. I remember the Paris one being good.

Of course, when you look at it like that, (thanksgiving not being a religious festival) it makes more sense, in that it unites all Americans (apart from the natives, if I was one of them I might be cursing thanksgiving!!) apologies for by British cynicism. I don’t think I’m a native British either – my looks and name aren’t celtic, they have a Nordic twist to them, I think my ancestors were Viking invaders!

      2. No apologies necessary! And obviously, there are few native Americans and I am certainly not even close — my parents were 1st generation Americans, for the most part (I had one grandfather that was actually born here).

  2. Cleaning done ahead of time- I know, RIGHT!!!?? Bandit is adorable. 🙂 Who all do you have over for Thanksgiving? We go to my cousin’s and I make green bean casserole (easy to do in the morning of) and a dessert called “fingers” that I can make a couple days ahead of time.

    1. I have my parents, my sister & BIL, and my niece. Last year there was a cousin, too. And usually my nephew, too, but my sister thinks he’ll be traveling. I actually extended an invitation to my niece’s & nephew’s respective boyfriend & girlfriend, but doubt they’ll show up.

      It doesn’t really matter much the number of people, the same stuff has to get done! And I don’t make anything the morning of, because unless the weather is bad, I’ll be out doing a turkey trot. 🙂

  3. What are these cranberry bars you speak of? Are they something I need to be making as well? You know I’m a sucker for sweets… Also, I’m impressed you’ve already started your Thanksgiving prep. You’re so on top of things!

    1. They’re actually from skinnytaste.com, so you can either google it or look at my Thanksgiving board on Pinterest. As to whether or not you need to make them, only you know!

      My Thanksgiving just grew, since my nephew is coming after all (my sister wasn’t sure) and his food blogger girlfriend (oy vey!). It’s still only 9 people though.

      My mom doesn’t really cook anymore, my sister works in retail & isn’t fond of cooking, so it’s basically all on me.

      My mom used to have like 20 people though! I can’t even.

        She reviews RESTAURANTS, for God’s Sake. In Manhattan.

        I’ve never met her, but I’m sure my nephew has given her the lowdown on my Thanksgivings. Or not, he’s a man of few words. Hopefully he’s mentioned the two dogs & cat (who will be locked up in the laundry room so I don’t have to worry about him).
