Angry Running: 11/6-12 Weekly Wrap

Man, Winter blew in with a vengeance this week; even a little white stuff fell from the sky as the temps plummeted . . . just in time for my 15k..

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin to show how I get it done even when it’s frigid!

Running updates

Still some color at the park

Monday

I ignored the weather forecasts, went to the park, and was rewarded with no rain (that came later in the day).

About mile 4 there were 3 ladies walking abreast on the narrow paths. They moved aside for the guy walking towards them, then spread out . . . right in front of me.

Did you know anger makes you speedy?

Love Skirtsport’s limited edition Charmed print

Wednesday

So now it’s really cold. Like winter cold. 30s. It clouded over, but by the time I’d warmed up 1.5 miles with Bandit, the sun had come out.

The new Charmed print from Skirtsports is thinner and less compressive than their normal tights, so perfect for those in between weather days (and of course there’s three pockets).

I may be standing on the mill, but I got it done outside

Friday

Seriously, what’s up with the wind? The Wind Chill? And that white stuff falling from the sky (not much, thankfully). I probably would have stayed inside except there were strides on the plan and strides are pretty much impossible on the mill. With the right gear, it was fine.

What wasn’t fine? Bandit. I really don’t think it was the cold; I think it was the jacket. But you know those crazy crossfitters pulling all those crazy things? Try dragging a 20 lb dog who really doesn’t want to run, just sayin’.

Oh, and I was supposed to do 10 x 20 second strides. Oopsie.

Another pretty but pretty frigid morning

Sunday

Someday I’m going to have a great rest day before a race. Yesterday was not that day. And despite the cold, I nailed my outfit and the race. More to come on Tuesday, probably.

Sometimes change is a good thing

Favorites of the week
I decided I needed a bagel and lox instead of my normal overnight oats for my race breakfast today. I don’t have an iffy stomach and even though I’d never had a bagel and lox before a race or a long run, I was pretty sure it would be just fine and it was.

Trying out the Tribest

My new personal blender finally arrived. So far, so good. Unfortunately I didn’t get as much baking done as I wanted to this busy weekend, I did prepare the filling for the fig bars, which will now be fig cranberry bars since I didn’t have enough dried figs as it turned out. Hey, that’s Thanksgiving-y, right?

New name: Houdini

Not so much a favorite, but I had to share. Look way in the back of Bandit. Notice that sweater peaking out from under the covers? Yeah, that was on Bandit when we went to bed. Another one bites the dust. Darn dog is super hard to find sweaters/jackets for.

And that’s a wrap

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

Let’s get the conversation started:

Do you find you run faster when your angry?

Or how about when it’s cold?

If you have a dog & you live someplace cold, does your dog have sweaters/jackets?

    1. There’s a neighborhood in that town called the Stockcade, which you run through. You run through a lot more, but that’s where the race gets its name.

Supposedly it’s one of the oldest 15ks. I think they like to say it’s the oldest, but not sure about that.

    1. I haven’t made the bars yet (today, hopefully, good thing to do on a cold day after a hard race), but I actually think the cranberries will work well.

I would’ve used dried cherries if it hadn’t been for Thanksgiving!

  1. Yes! Cold an anger are great running motivators. Bandit is so cute! lol I thought that it was funny that you had his picture paired with that title in the blog preview…..you can’t be angry with a face that cute! But I do agree about the people walking/running 3+ wide……especially if I’m doing a track workout and they are walking in lane 1 lol.

    1. I don’t actually pick which photo gets picked up. For some reason when I did that it would show double photos.

On the track is the worst! Except nowadays all the local schools are locking up their tracks. 😦

  2. Yes! Cold weather and trail hogs definitely make me run faster! It is so dang annoying when walkers, and runners for that matter, spread out across a narrow path and won’t move for you. Ugh!!

I love bagels and cream cheese before a race, after a race, during a race, anytime, anyplace ..I just love bagels! 🙂

Looking forward to reading your race recap!!

    1. Bagels DURING a run? Never tried that! I love bagels too, but most of the time I just can’t eat that many empty carbs. I’ve done them after a race, but never before. Seemed to work. 🙂

I just don’t understand how people can’t hear you coming up behind them. It’s not like I’m super light on my feet or anything.

  3. Maybe Bandit is telling you he is hot natured? He is so cute in that picture. When I run in our park, I go rogue and run in the opposite “posted” direction so that I never have to pass anyone on the narrow trail. Or, scare the poop out of them from behind. LOL. I can’t wait to hear about that 15k! Thanks for linking.

    1. He likes to sleep under the covers, but when he goes out and it’s in the teens . . . like Lola, he doesn’t have a whole lot of body fat on him.

Our park also has a fair number of bicyclists and skaters. And they’ll run you down if you’re not paying attention!

  4. So Bandit is an escape artist lol I saw a lot of dogs bundled up at my race Saturday!
Anger can go both ways for me, it can feel draining too.
Path hoarders are the worst, and i had some of that during the race, folks who were racing in lines and you could not pass – the course in the park gets narrow.
I love the print on your leggings, very pretty 🙂
Strides are one of my favorite things to do!

    1. Anger will eventually be draining, but in the moment, it definitely spikes my adrenaline (had a few incidents just this morning).

I love strides too. Because they’re so short (and where I do them in my neighborhood is a slight downhill, too).
