The Case of the Disappearing Panties: Runfessions January 2018

brunfessjanuary18

Unlike December, nary a food runfession to be found. January Runfessions are a mixed bag: a little chafing, a lot of organizing/decluttering, the almost-streak.

I’m joining Marcia @ Marcia’s Healthy Slice to start off 2018 right.

I runfess . . .
I really need to get one of those things you put on your keys so you can find them when you misplace them because yes, I lost mine again at the beginning of the month/end of last year. I seriously had no clue at all where they were.

This is one time where I feared my love of pockets backfired on me — I was afraid I had them in a coat pocket and actually lost them. Lucky for me, Mr. Judy finally found them under the bench near the garage door. I’ve no memory of putting them on the bench, I’m just glad he found them.

I even have a basket that I normally keep my keys in. The problem always seems to arise when I lay my keys down somewhere else “just for a minute”.

I do have a spare key. And so does Mr. Judy. But this is the only one that locks/unlocks the doors with the click of a button. Remember, my car is actually working its way towards 18 years — it’s even older than Gizmo!

And speaking of things disappearing, admist all the decluttering, I tried on a bunch of pants, and out of one of them popped some underwear! Am I the only one that has underwear disappearing in their pants? I wondered what had happened to those!

I runfess . . .
I had a little chafing going on during one of my many treadmill runs early in the month. Which I totally forgot about, until I got into the shower, of course. Thankfully it really was just a little and wasn’t very painful.

I had just totally forgotten to put anti-chafe cream on it before the shower (which really does work to prevent the stinging) — and then, in fact, I rinsed off and almost forgot to rinse the conditioner out of my hair, too!

I runfess . . .
The weather got so bad at the beginning of the month that I seriously began to consider a run streak, something I have never considered before. Because my activity was just so lacking. Even though walking the dogs isn’t much of a workout, it sure does add a lot of steps to my days. And even on the days I planned to just do some gentle yoga, I managed to talk myself out of it.

But then I came to my senses. I don’t need a run streak. But maybe I need to walk on that treadmill some if I’m not walking the dogs. Which is exactly what I did later in the month. And I further runfess I do it barefoot (but with socks on). And I really runfess that one day I was wearing some light compression socks and I swear I got calluses on my calluses and it hurt so bad (but thankfully didn’t bother me when running).

I runfess . . .
That fleece lined running tights and fleece balaclavas really make shoveling the driveway in the single digits with gusty wind not so bad. Seriously, you can work up a good sweat.

What wasn’t so good? The way my hair kept getting into my mouth!

The proverbial tip of the iceberg

I runfess . . .
I am actually getting organized. Oh, I’m in that things-are-even-messier stage, but seriously, I am digging deep and reorganizing. While I have some “down”time before serious training begins, I am going through stuff, purging, reorganizing. I am determined at the very least to get my room (we each have a bedroom to ourselves, in addition to the master bedroom which we share) organized. And I’m making really good progress.

But I runfess that the cleanliness of the house is really taking a hit during this process. I will never be a great housekeeper, but it always seems as though I can keep the house clean or I can keep the house decluttered, but not both. I’m hoping that with some organization, I can keep it somewhat clutter free and somewhat clean.

Worth $12, don’t you think?

Part of this process has been to #notbuymorestuff. I have actually done pretty well with this, too, but I have bought a few things. The iphone, for instance. And when AMR had Wineglass hoodies and long sleeve tech tees on sale for $12 . . .#sorrynotsorry.

What are you constantly misplacing?

What’s your thoughts on run streaks?

  1. Our house needs to be de-cluttered, big time. And I’m not even looking forward to starting that process…so it keeps getting put off “until tomorrow….” I usually leave my keys in the car (which is usually in our locked garage. Once in awhile, though, I will accidentally bring them inside with me and then I never know where to put them LOL

    1. Never leave my keys in my car. I’d probably lock them in, even though I don’t lock the car & have spare keys.

I will be showing before & after photos eventually . . . seriously, it was bad. I thought I knew where most stuff was in the mess, but not completely!

We’ve lived in this house almost 10 years now. It was definitely time!

  2. Same as Kim. My cars are always in the car which is in the garage. I do lose my phone several times a day. I carry it around and always be down someplace different.

My house is never cluttered but my closets and drawers another story. I do not need anymore shirts or hoodies.

I hate to clean. A cleaning lady has solved that issue.

Never considered a running streak. Maybe if I had a treadmill and if I didn’t work. But walking is just as good an option. So is working out and yoga.

    1. I feel better now that I feel better (let’s hope I don’t catch my parents’ colds), so I’m getting in my normal level of activity, which makes me feel better . . . what’s the opposite of a vicious cycle? 🙂

  3. I had a chafing issue just this week and I normally don’t have to worry about that. I’m not sure about that barefoot TM walking. That’s one thing I’m not supposed to do — walk barefoot. It’s not good for the ol’ previously broken metatarsals apparently. 😉 I’m impressed by your decluttering project. I need to do it but am just not motivated. Maybe when the last kid goes to college…

    1. Thankfully I haven’t had any stress fractures.

You have to be motivated to declutter. Last year when I was working on my parents’ house half the year, the last thing I wanted to do was work on my own. Mr. Judy isn’t really happy because with the changes in the tax system we can’t use our donations as deductions now. But last year was not the year to do it.

  4. I love going through a de-clutter process every now and then. I always feel better once things are cleaned/organized and I often find items to donate or sell.

For some reason I never lose my keys but sometimes I do misplace my phone which is super stressful!

  5. Thankfully the last couple of moves have forced me to declutter. However, I still need to purge some clothes ..my closets overfloweth!

I lose keys, phone and reading glasses all the time. I hate house cleaning. So much so that I’ve always had a housekeeper until now. I can’t justify that when I’m not working outside of the home anymore. Hmmm, maybe I should get a job so I can get a housekeeper!! Lol

I would actually enjoy a barefoot walk every once in a while ..but I have such terribly flat feet that it is just not comfortable. It’s so bad that I keep a pair of supportive flip flops next to the bed and slip them on as soon as I get out of bed… I rarely even walk to the bathroom barefoot anymore.

Good luck with that decluttering process …sounds like you’re making great progress!

    1. I hate cleaning, too, and we had a housecleaner once a week when I was growing up . . . it’s still just never what I wanted to spend money on. Although it’s tempting sometimes, for sure.

Hoping that the weather was great today & you rocked your first marathon!

  6. The most interesting blog post title ever!!! LOL! My mum (and her whole side of the family) and unfortunately me, misplace keys all the time. I must admit I have become a lot better. I’ve programmed myself to walk into the house and hang them up before I do anything else… BUT BUT you are right! It’s when I get interrupted and want to put them down just for a sec that they disappear! LOL. Drives my hubby absolutely mad!

  7. We also have a key basket. I’m actually pretty good at using it. What I frequently misplace is my phone. LOL I’ll carry it with me, set it down, do whatever, go on about my business and suddenly, I’m all “um, where’s my phone?” And the bad thing is there’s no-one else in the house to call it for me or help me look! Oh boy, those can be very stressful moments. Hahaha!!

No run streak for me. I know I need my rest days. And I take them. Like today. 🙂

  8. The panty thing had me laughing!! I have not lost underwear in my clothes, but have found socks stuck to random clothing. I wash my underwear separately from all my other clothes.

I admire that you are fining the time to re-organize! It takes a lot of energy to do that!

    1. Well, I can declutter cause I don’t have a job (unless you count 3 needy furkids, need elderly parents, and 1 needy husband). And . . . it just has to be done.

To be clear, those pants hadn’t been washed. And it’s not the first time I found missing panties in pants that hadn’t been washed yet!

    1. I think sometimes a smaller space makes it easier (although of course challenging as well) — you tend to fill up the space you have.

I can’t say that I love to declutter, but I love it when it’s over. Never lasts, though.

  9. I misplaced my glasses for an entire day and it drove me crazy!! I have been working on decluttering and I love it! Have you read Marie Kondo’s book, “The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up”? It trly was life-changing for me. Good luck!

    1. I never read Marie Kondo’s book, but I have seen it, and spent a lot of last year going through stuff and folding stuff ala Kondo — but not in my room (in the master bedroom).

We’ve lived here almost 10 years, so it was really time to tame it again.

  10. I can’t declutter and keep things clean at the same time either. It’s impossible!

The shirt is definitely worth $12. Love it!

Annnd… this winter has been brutal. I’m SO relieved I’m not trying to train for a spring marathon in this. Though it’s been mild the last couple days. But those single digits and feet of snow… no thanks.

    1. I’m very happy to not be seriously training for anything, too.

I actually don’t think the winter has been brutal so far — but don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t been easy, either! And it’s just getting started.

      1. You don’t think it’s been brutal?! I feel like we’ve been in winter since Halloween!! It’s been “pleasant” for a week now but it’s about to drop back into the 20s again.

      2. I didn’t say it’s been an easy winter, but so far, brutal, no (of course I also don’t live in Cleveland).

I have vivid memories of my house hunting trip about 10 years ago — I swear the snow banks were almost taller than me.

But it ain’t over yet. 🙂

      3. I just feel like we’ve been plunged into winter ever since Halloween weekend and it hasn’t let up. I can handle it when winter “starts” in January and lasts until April. At this rate it seems like it started in October/November and will last until April! That’s too many months of winter for me.

      4. Many years ago I lived in VT. Winter did start there in about October.

Actually it started at a pretty normal point for us this year. I guess we were just too spoiled by a couple of easy winters.

There’s a reason we moved away from the NE. 🙂

  11. I did some decluttering last month while on winter break. I am planning to move this year so the less I have, the less I have to move. 🙂 I am afraid of losing my keys. Every key that I use everyday is on the keychain. I should get a spare set made just in case.

    1. I actually do have my housekeys (which we almost never use because my husband installed locks with a keypad) and my car key separately.

I’m lucky that my husband is really handy because there was a separate key for all 4 doors with the previous owners!

  12. Between the basement flooding and converting the playroom to my office, there’s been lots of decluttering up in here. It’s wonderful. I most often misplace my cheater reading glasses. Plus Ozzy loves chewing them up.

    1. I don’t wear readers. The optometrist keeps telling me to, but seriously, shouldn’t contacts/glasses be enough? I can actually read just fine without anything in, but can’t see close up as well with my contacts/glasses. Drives me nuts.

  13. OMG Judy you do make me laugh 😀 I feel like we are somehow living a parallel life in some areas!

keys. bank card. public transport card. bike key. did I turn the stove off? do I have my bike lock? where did I put my gloves?

my house is a complete tip from starting the de-cluttering process. which I didn’t work on much last month…

I did a runstreak once. I lasted 43 days I think. but my knee didn’t like it so I had to stop. my body doesn’t like it, therefore I won’t be trying that again!

  14. I am constantly misplacing my keys and my phone… just yesterday I couldn’t find them and somehow I had left them in the back seat of my car (thank goodness it was unlocked still because the spare key was in there too).
