Zero Week: 2/5- 11 Weekly Wrap

It’s gonna be relatively short and sweet this week since there just wasn’t a whole lot going on. By now I thought I’d be running again. It’s not that I couldn’t, it’s just that I know if I continue to rest now I’ll come back stronger rather than potentially relapsing (like a lot of people have with this crud). I’m not training for anything, so rest is the name of the game right now.

Been a long, long time since I had to take a zero week.

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Wendy @ Taking the Long Way Home to share my “activity” this week.

Workouts update

  • Monday: Resting and hydrating
  • Tuesday: Same as Monday
  • Wednesday: Feeling a tiny bit better, must be careful to take it easy
  • Thursday:  Paced around the house when my Garmin reminded me to move — first day over 2000 steps this week!
  • Friday:  Pretty much a repeat of Thursday + Olympics watching is a sport, right?
  • Saturday: Dogwalk. We finally got out there.
  • Sunday: If the weather hadn’t been so nasty there probably would’ve been a dogwalk, instead still just pacing around the house. I thought about some restorative yoga, but I didn’t get past the thinking stage.

Favorites of the week
While it always sucks to be sick, I am lucky that I have the ability to take the rest my body so desperately needed this week. And then I got the best compliment. A local woman, whom I don’t really know, although her story was recently share and is very inspiring — thanked me for inspiring her to apply to become a Skirtsports Ambassador!

I say it to people often — in life, in blogging — you never know who you are going to touch with your story. So often it seems that what we do is not appreciated, and then one day, out of the blue, you get the best compliment.

Stocking up with healthy options: curry, chili, spanish rice and beans

Oddly enough, I got very busy in the kitchen this week. I had the Instant Pot going all week — as a slow cooker: spanish rice and beans, veggie curry, and chili. Plus some baking. Yes, I really was sick, but not so sick that I didn’t want to eat. And because I wasn’t running, I had more time to cook/bake. The pantry needed some serious restocking!

Speaking of yummy food, we got very international the last week: Thai, Chinese, and Indian. And I got soup from all three cuisines.

I big thank you to Mr. Judy who did my grocery shopping for me this week and all the snow blowing/shoveling and brought me pre-birthday flowers — since my birthday is Valentine’s Day, he doesn’t like to pay extra on the actual day, although he has also given me flowers from time to time on the actual day.

The Opening Ceremony! I thought it was the best one I’ve seen in a long, long time. Maybe it was because prime time didn’t carry the full ceremony, but I thought it wasn’t too long and was just really well done.

I’m wrapping it up with a few favorite blogs from this week:

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

Let’s get the conversation started:

What did you think of the opening ceremony, if you watched?

Are the Olympics inspiring you?

Is your SO helpful around the house?

  1. I hope the rest does you well and you are at 100% this coming week!

Oddly enough, I don’t really get into the winter Olympics and though I am patriotic I find it funny that people are glued to such sports (snow boarding, skiing, ice skating) when) when they are on the Olympics but did they know they can watch these sports anytime on those ESPN channels? I would never watch snow boarding any other time so why should I be compelled to watch it now…haha. I know that makes me sound like a bah humbug which I am not, just sayin!

I hope you have a fabulous birthday this week! How special that it is on Valentines day! Mr. Judy is a smart man!

    1. We used to watch ice skating when it wasn’t the Olympics. We don’t have cable though (or any premium channels).

I love to watch ice skating. I used to love to ice skate, too, until I got into running. No, I wouldn’t watch skiing or snowboarding any other time but I still love to watch it. Those people are nuts!

  2. I totally missed the Opening Ceremonies. I’ve watched them in the past but tend to get a little restless and I got caught up in Live PD. Oops.

I’ve been cooking up a storm too. Roasted a chicken, made homemade bone broth, baked some bread, etc. All this sitting has me restless!

I have totally been craving hot and sour soup but I haven’t felt like going to get it. I need to figure out how to make it. I did go to the grocery store yesterday and that was enough. Had to get stuff to make food for my dog and grab some stuff for the cats. And no. I didn’t run today. 😦

    And happy birthday!! ❤

    1. Don’t you have any Chinese restaurants that deliver? My husband had hot & sour soup (not my thing).

I’m going to the grocery store tomorrow. Whenever I send Mr. Judy I make it very simple & I really need some more stuff! I really don’t want to go, but maybe tomorrow is finally the day I feel back to normal . . .

  3. Sorry that you a sick but at least as you said, you are not training and do not have to run plus you don’t have to take time off from work.

You just reminded about the one evening when I was running down the streets of Buffalo and a lady stopped me. I thought she wanted money but she wanted to know how to start running. I told her about the Couch 2 5k app and she was so grateful.

  4. Oh, I hope you are feeling 100% soon! The crud going around this winter is brutal — whether it’s the flu or some other nastiness. Thanks for featuring my post — I’m glad it caught your attention.

    1. You’re welcome, Coco.

My illness thankfully hasn’t been brutal, just lingering. On and on and on . . . Mr. Judy has been sick almost 2 months straight, actually. Early on he even took time off, which he never does.

  5. Happy early birthday. I wish I could have flowers in the house, but Allie chews things, and I don’t want anything to cause potential harm. My favorite flowers have poisonous bulbs, but I’m not sure about the plants.

    1. Most flowers are not harmful to them. Lilies are toxic; any kind of lily. Gizmo is pretty good, although there are a few he likes.

Simba was a different story, as was Puss.

There are lots of animal friendly plants, but there are toxic ones, too, so google is your friend with that (and we’ve been gifted with toxic plants by animal lovers on more than one occasion!).

  6. Sometimes we need that extra time to completely rest – I hope you enjoyed it as much as possible. And happy early birthday! That’s great that you’ve got the fridge stocked with healthy meals…I need to do the same.

I watched part of the Opening Ceremony…what I did get to see I thought was pretty good!

  7. I didn’t watch the opening ceremonies as I’m usually not a fan but I’ve heard from several people that it was the best ever. I like to bake when I don’t feel well…feed a cold starve a fever, I suppose. Thanks for the shout out/link to my poem! And, as always, thanks for linking!

    1. So I’m not the only weird person who likes to bake when they’re not feeling well. Of course, I just like to bake & when I’m not running I have more time, but of course I’m also not burning it off . . .

  8. Love the story of the lady you inspired. You are so right – with blogging you never know whose life you are touching out there, and when someone comments or you find out that someone actually reads your blog and is inspired, that is a very special feeling! Happiest of birthdays for tomorrow! Hope you have a beautiful day and a fantastic year ahead x

  9. I absolutely agree about resting until completely recovered….better to miss a few extra days than to get sick again. And cooking/baking isn’t a bad way to pass the time, either.
