Freakin Fast Half: Runfessions July 2018

brunfessjuly18

Racecations are great fodder for Runfessions, although many of these happened before I ever set foot in ID. Excuse me while I go get loopy and forgetful!

I’m joining Marcia @ Marcia’s Healthy Slice to get a few things off my chest.

I runfess . . .
I went into a bathroom post run and checked to make sure there was toilet paper. What I didn’t check? To see if there was an end hanging down; there wasn’t. I swear it took me five minutes to get the nice, full roll to actually roll.

Does it bug you when that happens?

I runfess . . .
On the same day as the toilet paper incident, I spent quite a bit of the last two miles of a hot run wondering if I could loop back and forth for the quarter mile where there was shade. Then wondering if I could loop back and forth in the shade of just one tree.

I didn’t do either thing, but boy, I sure did think about it and how good it would feel being out of the sun!

I runfess . . .
And again, on the same day, as I was running some errands afterwards, someone had left their cart out in the parking lot and I had to chase after it  — spewing expletives as I did — as it started rolling down the parking lot. I wasn’t even going to use the damn thing, I just didn’t want it hitting any cars. My car wasn’t even in danger.

I run fess I’m getting tired of being a nice person!

I runfess . . .
I made some baked goods to take with me for breakfasts during my vacation, as usual. I freeze them, and I have a small travel cooler that I use. I brought them to my MILs, where I ate one before my long run on Saturday.

Then either I had defrosted more and had it in the refrigerator (I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this), or I just didn’t grab it out of her freezer. I was kicking myself for that all vacation — I had other food with me, not to mention our hotels had free continental breakfast, but I put in the effort to make it, freeze it, and take it.

Glad I had my visor for the race & no, this wan’t on the race course!

I runfess . . .
When I got to our first destination in ID, as I laid out everything for my run the next morning, I couldn’t find my visor. My Skirt Sports Ambassador visor. Yes, I’d only packed one visor because I runfess I could barely close my suitcases as it was. I had to run without a visor the next morning, but I knew I’d definitely need one for my race.

We went to Dick’s Sporting Goods, where after much searching we finally found one. Wouldn’t you know the next day, as I was packing up for our next stop, out pops the visor. From the same bag I’d searched at least three times. I’ve no idea how I missed it. We returned the other visor to Dick’s.

Do you have trouble finding stuff when you travel?

Any pet peeves to share?

  1. Oh gosh….I lose things all the time in my suitcase that I distinctly remember putting in there LOL I usually have to take everything OUT (and meticulously put it all back IN) before the missing thing makes an appearance.

    1. I *thought* I took out everything from the particular bag it was in. Multiple times. I should have dumped the bag completely, like I did one time when I couldn’t find my car keys — which as you know is a frequent occurrence for me.

I still don’t know how such a relatively large thing in a relatively small bag managed to stay hidden.

  2. I keep all my running stuff all together in a separate bag in my suitcase so I don’t misplace anything or get it mixed up with other clothes.

It’s after I run or race that I lose things like one sock or compression sleeve etc. UGH!

    1. I did have most of my running stuff — including the visor — in a gear bag in my backpack. And I *knew* it was there. I still can’t figure out how I missed it, multiple times.

I so hate the one sock thing. 😦

  3. Isn’t is crazy how things seem to “vanish” when you’re packing, even though you’re sure that you packed it! I am glad that you found the visor after all.

I am with you on the grocery cart story. I’ve done that before and sometimes it’s like “why am i doing this?!” – But then I think of it hitting a car and then my actions make sense, lol

  4. I usually end up losing something while on vacation, either a charger for electronics or a piece of jewelry or something. Luckily I think I came home with everything from my trip to Florida. But I didn’t completely unpack everything yet so we will see.

One of my biggest pet peeves is the cart thing. WHY cant people put the charts back where they belong??? I hate when they leave them in the parking lot.

    1. I once left a pretty expensive necklace I’d just bought in Vegas. When I called the hotel almost immediately, of course it was nowhere to be found.

Obviously, I’m with you on the shopping cart thing. 🙂

  5. When we met up with you the first time in Las Vegas, I had turn around after about an hour driving and get the peanut butter chip brownies that I had made for you that I had left on the kitchen counter.

    1. I know! Why is it that it’s not usually as hard to start TP at home, but those big rolls are like impossible.

I can just see it, someday TP will be automatic like water & paper towels at public restrooms.

  6. I couldn’t find my favorite hat or favorite visor when I got ready to pack for Chicago! I tried to find one at the expo but wouldn’t pay the $$. I hate when toilet paper won’t roll! Sometimes the roll is too heavy and the paper is too thin and you can only get one little square to come off at the time. ARGH.

    1. I don’t like the one square thing, but at least then you can eventually work up enough!

I had to have a visor. That mountain sun . . . the one at Dick’s wasn’t super expensive, but there’s no way I actually needed another one!

  7. I have definitely had the same thoughts about shade. Sometimes I pick up the pace just to get to a shady area faster….but of course then I’m hotter because I picked up the pace.

  8. I’m sure the people who’s cars you saved from getting hit by the cart are thankful! I don’t see rogue carts in parking lots much around here. Most of the grocery stores have plenty of spots in the parking lot to put your cart back so you don’t have to walk all the way back to the store. Then of course there is Aldi where you pay a quarter for your cart and get it back when you return it! Apparently it does cut down on lots of costs!

  9. The toilet paper thing drives me crazy! I hate rolls like that when they just won’t start. I always feel so disheveled on vacation and have a hard time finding anything.

    1. I use packing cubes, and that actually helps a lot. But it was more than a week on vacation and involved a lot of running & hiking & a race, so yeah, there was a lot of stuff in there!

  10. The loo roll thing has happened to be so many times especially in public loos and it really annoys me too! That photo with your medal is GORGEOUS!

Lol re: the visor! When I was a kid, we travelled about 500km out of town. A couple of days into our holiday, my mum’s car keys disappeared. We searched her bag several times. But it was nowhere to be found. So she borrowed a car – travelled back home to get the spare keys and came back to our holiday town (about a 1000km of driving). Following day she reached into her bag (the same bag we had searched over and over again) and pulls out the original keys and the spare keys. LOL!

    1. I have had the same experience of losing keys in my bag. Once my sister had me hold it upside down & shake it so everything came out — which worked — and apparently I should have done that for the visor!
