Can’t stop, won’t stop: 8/27-9/2 Weekly Wrap

Rachel @ Runningonhappy had nothing on my schedule this week. Only I’d decided before the 1812 Challenge that if I finished feeling good, I’d be signing up for another half at the end of September. You’ll have to read on to find out which one. 😉

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Wendy @ Taking the Long Way Home to show you how I recover — at least, when there’s another race coming up.

Running Updates

Wednesday
It was disgusting outside. So a short treadmill run it was.

Thursday
Cooler today, but the humidity was still rather stifling (and lots of heat headed our way next week — oy!). Since I couldn’t run in the morning, I got it done of the treadmill again. Next week it’ll be back to brutally hot morning runs.

Why yes, we do take up a whole picnic bench

Saturday
Almost all the Wineglass girls were back at it for various paces and lengths, some running, some run/walking, some walking. We ran into a lot of Skirt Sisters on the run, as well.

Lots of Skirt Sports sighted on our long run yesterday

A lot of us are gearing up for upcoming half marathons — some in groups, some solo.

Oops, I did it again. I sweet talked Mr. Judy into another half at the end of this month: Ocean City NJ. Shout out if you’re going or know someone who is! We’ve been eyeing it a long time, ever since we stopped there on our way down to ZOOMA Annapolis three years ago (read about that here). Please, Weather Gods, send me some decent weather!

Let’s get the conversation started:

Are you gearing up for any exciting races?

Do you see a lot of women running in skirts where you live?

Can’t stop, won’t stop . . . when it comes to signing up for races?

  1. Well glad you are feeling good enough to run another half or two.

I used to sign up for all the races. Been there done that.

Have done fall races that I signed up for ages ago. Nothing on the docket for 2019.

I used to be the only skirt at most of my races when I first became an ambassador. Now I have company.

    1. Obviously I’ve never signed up for all the races, but somehow they do seem to get bunched together sometimes.

I don’t anticipate doing a whole lot of longer summer races, but if it’s something that particularly interests me & it’s not in a blazing hot (or humid) place I’ll at least consider it.

  2. Love all the skirt sport wearers! I would think you’d have good weather at Ocean City at the end of the month, but I guess there is a risk of a last-chance heat wave or even a hurricane. 😛 Hopefully it will be gorgeous!

    1. Yup, bingo — it can be really hot still in September. I actually hadn’t thought about hurricanes — just rain in general because part of the race will be on the boardwalk, which can get slippery if wet (but I don’t think it’s very much on the boardwalk).

  3. You find the best half marathons! OC half sounds great! I heard it is a wonderful race. They have a marathon and 10-miler in the spring. I did the 10-miler one year and was never so glad to be finished with a race – into the wind the whole time. I could not even imagine running the full marathon. The half runs in the opposite direction, so you should have a tailwind the whole way. Have fun! I’m jealous!!! 🙂

  4. It’s hard to say NO to races, I totally know that LOL I really do not see a lot of skirt-wearing ladies in my area. I’m in Iowa, though…a lot of the fashion trends arrive on the scene here (usually) after they’re on their way out 😉

    1. Skirts will never go out. 🙂 Someday, of course, I’ll do a half in IA. I have to admit it’s not high on our list of places to visit.

My sister lived in Davenport while her husband went to school there & she hated it. No offense!

I’m actually rather cautious with my races in general. I like to race, but I also do find it tiring, so I don’t like to do a ton of them. I don’t generally suffer with a lot of FOMO, either.

  5. Ocean City sounds like a great destination race! I’ve got Zooma in 2 weeks and then I’m planning on running the Madison half in November. I can’t get enough of going up there to see my boy!

    1. That’s a great way to visit your son! For someone who’s struggling with running, you sure have a lot of races on your schedule, too!

I didn’t get to run in OC when we stayed there because I wasn’t feeling great, so I’ve always wanted to go back & run there! Plus I don’t get to the ocean too often, although I have Cape Cod the month after that.

Can’t tell you the last time I was at the ocean — I guess that was probably PCB!

  6. How fun to pull the trigger on another half. I hope the weather cooperates for you. We are so hot and humid and rainy here right now and I’m sick of it. I’ve got Zooma in a couple weeks followed by Sea Wheeze in Vancouver and then a little something…well a couple of little somethings in Philly.

  7. I recognize one of those faces 😀
No Halfs on my calendar for the rest of 2018, just a 10M at the end of September and a 15K in December. Save for a 4M in November and maybe a Turkey Trot depending on where we do Thanksgiving, that’s it for this fall. working on 2019 though
I don’t see a ton of skirts here, but I’ve struck up some chats with ladies wearing fun patterns

  8. Ocean City sounds like a great destination race. Hopefully the humidity is kinder this week! Oddly, very few ladies around here run in skirts. When I’m at a local race, I’m usually the only one. Thanks for linking!

    1. Nope, still hot & super humid. Well, maybe not compared to you guys, but it’s pretty miserable for us.

Seems like most places don’t have a lot of skirt. There’s so much up here! What’s up with the warmer places not having more skirts?

Do you see a lot of women running in skirts where you live? Never. I have never worn one either.

    1. I’m actually really surprised the number of people who say there are almost no women running in skirts in their area. There are lots here. It’s not like I live in a big city, either (although also not a small town).

  10. I love the pics of all your ladies, fantastic! We have almost no skirt-wearers here, I’m not sure if it’s just not a “thing” in the UK or what it is. Good luck with the half- presumably by the ocean, then??

    1. Yes, the half will be by the ocean. I love the ocean, but I don’t live near one.

Ok, I’ve gotta ask — do you have a blog about your running, also? I like to follow readers who follow me, but I just don’t have much to say about book publishing!

      1. Oh lovely, I do love a run by the sea and live right in the middle of England so that’s a novelty for me!

And yes, I do a weekly post on running on http://www.librofulltime.wordpress.com on a Sunday and also review quite a lot of running books among my other book reviews. Unfortunately however much I put that url in my comments, the gravatar thing over rides it and only shows my professional editing and transcribing blog.

      2. Oh good! I hate it when someone comments on my blog & I can’t find theirs.

We are also hours from the ocean so I rarely get to run by it. I will check out your running posts soon!

  11. I haven’t ever seen a running skirt in my tiny little town, but at local races I have seen a few! I think they’re super cute – not my style but they totally are flattering on many. Fun patterns are a bonus 🙂 Hope your weather turns out well! I’m hoping to race but it all depends on my injury recovery. Heading to the doctor for her thoughts tomorrow! It’s cooling down in Minnesota and it’s killing me not to run in this almost-Fall weather.
