Here we go again: 9/24-30 Weekly Wrap

Here we go again: more humidity, more rain, and oh yeah, another half.

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Wendy @ Taking the Long Way Home to conquer NJ (state #19???? — I’m not quite sure, I really must update my races page one of these days). Turns out it’s state 18 — pretty sure, anyway.

Running Updates

Tuesday
A cold rain pretty much the entire day. This was supposed to be a “structured fartlek”. Now imagine doing that on a treadmill! So I just started at 6 mph, and by the time I got to the last few, I was up to 6.3 mph (9:30mm). Remember, it was only 1 minute fast — I can run fast for a minute!

Wednesday
What is it about Wednesday? Stupid h word was back. I dragged myself through 4 easy miles; I guess muscle memory somehow kicked in because even though I felt super slow, it was normal paces.

Friday
Cold rain & an early start had me on the treadmill. Took it easy & felt pretty good.

Sunday
I’d like to say I pushed through the relentless sun & had a great finish time, but unfortunately today was not my day for that. Look for my recap next week.

I finished, I feel good (after refueling & rehydrating), so life is good & there’s one last half for 2018.

Favorites of the week
I will never regret time by the ocean. Challenging myself. Good eats. And running into Skirt Sisters.

Let’s get the conversation started:

What is your favorite season to race (mine is Fall, as evidenced by the upcoming races)?

Are you happy or sad now that it’s officially Fall?

Tried anything new for running/racing lately that you love?

  1. Wow, state 18?! That’s amazing! I have a goal to run a half or full marathon in 25 states and I’m currently only on 9, lol. I need to step up my game!

I’m sorry that you didn’t have a good race, but finishing is winning and you got to cross another state off your list!

  2. Structured fartlek sounds like an oxymoron! Isn’t the point of a fartlek to have fun?

Congrats on a new state! I’ll be looking for your recap. I’m so sorry that it didn’t go well for you. Heat is not our friend.

  3. Definitely a lover of fall temps. Congrats on finishing your race! We all have days that are better than others. I have come to try to appreciate finish lines not so much finish times. You have had some great finish lines lately!

  4. Sounds like conditions were challenging for your race. Finishing is definitely winning. Especially by the ocean! Fall is definitely my favorite for running and racing. I’m embracing it.

  5. Congrats on another half! Sorry it wasn’t as best as you hoped but I believe that each race at least has some valuable learning moments 🙂

  6. Congrats on the half – finishing and feeling good is the most important part!

I think I probably always do a “structured fartlek” when I run on the treadmill. I have to change the pace and/or incline every couple minutes to keep the boredom at bay.

  7. Congrats on finishing another state and a half marathon. Sorry about your finish time. As they say All good thing must come to an end.

It rained during the Wineglass yesterday so I think you we’re lucky to have sunshine and be able to enjoy the ocean views.

That’s my preference. It’s not all about pace anyway, right?

3 big races in 3 months. That pretty impressive and you’ve trained for ALL of them. Maybe your legs were tired and it wasn’t the weather? Who knows.

Anyway one more to go. Hope it goes well but if not, have a blast with the BAMRs.

  8. Congrats on your race, I didn’t realize you had another one coming up! I had a few friends run that race…I don’t know how it could be so close yet still completely off my radar (not that I can run right now, but still!)

I’m enjoying the fall, though I keep wishing the leaves won’t change too soon before my wedding at the end of the month! I actually love racing in the spring – it seems that I do better in spring than fall, plus I prefer training in the winter!

  9. I love fall too, once it gets here. We’re fluctuating between fall temps and 80s, but it feels good when I run outside. I hoping not only for good weather, but good scenery too for my race on Sunday.

  10. Fall is definitely my favorite but I do love the fresh dewy crispness of Spring! It’s sort of Fall here. We’re going to have a bit more summer it seems (not uncommon for this area) but at least the temps at night are no longer unbearable. I’m really hoping that the temps out in the western portion of the state remain Fall-like for my race!

Would you believe I’ve never been to Ocean City?

When/where is the next one, again?

    1. My biggest problem with Spring is it tends to be really rainy. And maybe snowy up here . . .

Well, OC is pretty far from you (although not super close to me either!). It’s a really nice beach town. Very low key.

The race is Cape Cod, so no new state since I’ve already done MA, but should be nostalgic since my inlaws lived there for a long time (although different town).

  11. Congratulations on another half and knocking out state # 19! I agree, you really can’t complain about time spent on the coast. Winter will always be my favorite racing season. Thanks for linking!

    1. State #18, as it turns out, but thank you.

LOL, Winter will never be my fav racing season up here. For obvious reasons. In fact, races are hard to come by in the winter up here. Again, for obvious reasons.
