Loving 2019: Spilling over tea/coffee January 2019

btea119

Notice what I did there? I snuck in my word for 2019 (read about it here). I’m hoping to keep it in mind a lot more than I did Believe in 2018, although Believe really was a great word for 2018, as I pushed myself outside my comfort zone (read my wrap up of 2018 here) and had to believe I would be successful — and I was!

Confessions of a Mother Runner

Pull up a chair and mug with Coco and Deborah and me for the ultimate coffee tea date.

I’ll just be over here with my tea . . .

Loving a New Year
I know not everyone loves a new year, or even pays it much attention, quite frankly. Or they make resolutions they know they have little chance of keeping. I think there’s just something about having a clean slate, an entire year laid out before you with nothing but possibilities, that’s exciting.

Unflattering photo theme today, but this is me & Gizmo most mornings

Loving that Gizmo is still purring and curling up on my lap
I see the changes in him all the time. He’s not back to normal, but I think he’s settled into a new normal for him. Which still involves lots of lap time, lots of purring, and eating pretty well again.

I’m hoping that he stays well at least through March, which will allow us to get to Savannah and will also get him to his eighteenth birthday.

Loving clear streets and paths
Most of the past few big storms have missed us completely. I wrote that last weekend, and at the time all our snow from earlier in the year was gone. We’ve still had plenty of cold weather, but we’ve also had a few really warm days that melted whatever was left.

I’ll be a very happy girl if it could stay that way for another six weeks. Doubtful, but a girl can dream.

Loving going to races with groups
I’m the rogue runner in our little group. The one who goes off to races with her husband in tow instead of following the group. OTOH, without me, there might never have been a group at all. The group came to be because I wanted to run Wineglass with friends.

Running is definitely more fun with friends, but sometimes you have to do your own thing, too. Still it’s nice to have a posse — sometimes, at least — in the local races.

Ugliest & Warmest Coat Ever

Loving/not loving this coat
I wasn’t going to share this photo. And then I thought, why not? Even if it does make me look like a caterpillar trapped in a cocoon. The coat is seriously ugly. And it’s heavy. It’s also seriously warm, and I’ve already had to wear it on too many dogwalks this winter!

Not loving an empty calendar
Just one last big goal race — or I suppose one first big goal race in 2019. And then . . . who knows? I like to plan, I like to have the next race lined up before the one I’m training for is even run.

Things have a way of working out the way they’re supposed to; I truly believe that. I guess I just have to trust that 2019 has some good things up its sleeve for me. And at this point in 2018, there was also only one race on the calendar.

Tea? Iced Tea? Coffee? Decaf? Green smoothie?

Do you care what your coat looks like as long as it’s warm?

Do you love the possibilities a new year brings?

What are you most looking forward to in 2019?

  1. Aw, I love your photo with Gizmo, he looks very content and I’m glad he’s perked up. Our Morgan’s been cuddling up to me a lot more since I’ve stopped coughing so much, poor love does hate coughing and sneezing!

I am a tea drinker though I like a fancy coffee when I’m out. I don’t feel a sense of renewal in January as much as in the autumn – that’s my real time of change and I imagine it’s to do with being mixed up with the academic year for so much of my life, whether that was studying, working at a journal supplier for many years or working in the university library! Oh and I care not about my coat as long as it’s warm!

Hope you have a great running year, whatever it involves.

  2. That photo with the cat is my hubby. He’s sitting with his feet up and our old cat purring on his lap. It could be me if I ever had time to sit.

I have a coat like that. I almost gave it away but you never know. I don’t wear it.

I’m a planner and my year is planned. I like a full slate so I’m motivated to get my miles done.

And yes thanks for hooking me up to your running posse. I had other running groups but it was never as organized. Basically it was through texts and word of mouth. They planned and I joined or not. This group is flexible. And thanks to the FB group.

Hope our mild dry weather continues until May 19. Lol.

    1. I only wear that coat to walk the dogs. I usually say it’s like walking in a sleeping bag, but it is warm.

Of course now you know you’re just asking for snow on your birthday. 🙂 Snow on mine is usually a given though, but hopefully I won’t be here (and hopefully it won’t snow in GA but you never know).

  3. Coffee. All the coffee
Lap time is great, I hope you & Giz get to his 18th.
I love your purple coat. I had it or very close to it in black. The only thing I didn’t like was the fur hood, it washed awfully
Was so happy to replace the coat with one without fur

    1. I like hoods with fur! I usually just wash the coat without the hood.

I actually hate the way the coat looks, but it is very, very warm. And it’s actually a petite, believe it or not. I’m just so damn short!

  4. That coat does look so warm! I have a similar one for crosswalk duty at school. 🙂 Aw Gizmo looks so content on your lap! I’m glad he’s feeling back to normal. I’m also happy for a clean slate! I already feel like I’m taking advantage of it.

  5. Loved the picture of you and Gizmo. I had forgotten how satisfying it is to sit with a cat on your lap! I have 2 races on my calendar – both in January. One is a 3-hour timed run and another is a 25k trail run. we will see how the hip holds up. Short runs are fine, but long runs are not my friend. Happy New Year!

  6. I echo the comments loving the photo of you and Gizmo. He is just beautiful, certainly not looking like an almost-eighteen-year-old. He’s feeling the love, no doubt about it. You look relaxed and comfortable. Who could ask for more?
Love love love the coat. Warm works for me.
    Happy New Year.

    1. I really don’t love the coat at all, but I do love the warmth on our slow dog walks with so many pit stops!

Everyone keeps saying that Gizmo doesn’t look almost 18 with kidney failure. He really does, to me, but of course, he’s been with me since he was an 8 week old kitten. It’s always hard to see them age & struggle so. 😦

He also spends a lot more time sleeping in his little hiding places, too. I know it’s part of the process, I’ve been through this before, many times, but it’s still hard.

      1. It’s always a wrench. Our Mercedes, who is about 16, is sleeping most of the time, but no medical problems. Still, we understand it’s just a matter of time.
And Bart has appeared since before Christmas Eve so there’s that, too.
        I agree, yes, very hard.

      2. I hear you — Giz was pretty normal until 17, and then I could tell he was in kidney failure for months before I got the dx. He didn’t really act like it much, though, even afterward — but now he does more & more.

But he’s still purring & he’s still laying on me. May Mercedes stay healthy & loving a long time!

  7. Glad to hear that Gizmo is doing better! And that could be an exact representation of me around 7pm. LOL

I don’t think the coat is ugly. I’m a big fan of warm, especially if it comes in a purple wrapper!

I don’t really have much planned for 2019 (I mean, I have things I want to do but I don’t have a full calendar). I’m definitely enjoying the possibilities. 🙂

  8. I have a rather ugly coat I wear for walking Max. it’s a retired coat, belonged to the oldest daughter when she was in early high school. The sleeves are perfect, but the cropped waist is a bit “high” on my tall body…but it is warm. And, no one usually sees me in it in the dark, early hours LOL

  9. Just read your post about your word and I have to say I find it a very inspiring choice! with a little more love for pretty much everything – our selves, our home, others, the process and ultimately our life, I can see how much easier and positive life can be. So I may actually adopt a little of that in my life too 🙂

I love black coffee, espresso and occasionally a latte (but can’t handle the milk very much so it’s a choose wisely thing). I decided several weeks ago at work that I would no longer drink the sewage water coming out of the so-called coffee machine, so I drink two espressos at home and then I’m on the herbal tea the rest of the day. I love herbal tea! I don’t do much with smoothies, though sometimes I will make a fruit smoothie in the summer.

I don’t really care what my coat looks like. I never really need anything that warm in the Netherlands though.

I’m like you – I love the possibilities that a new year brings!

In 2019 I’m looking most forward to running the chicago marathon – it’s pretty much the ONLY US marathon I’ve ever wanted to do since it’s my “home city” (I have a “home town” too – that’s another post). i’m looking forward to giving it my all to realise the goals I’ve set for myself! I plan on working really hard but it’s going to be worth it!

    1. Good luck with Chicago! I hear that it’s an awesome marathon (and there are quite a few bloggers there, too).

You’re more than welcome to use a little love, LOL.

I’m just not into coffee at all, never was, so I do drink green tea & a lot of herbal tea, too. But I’ve been trying to cut back a bit on caffeine, so I’m looking around for a decaf green tea right now — I have ones I love but they all have the caffeine!

    1. Faith is an awesome word! I will definitely miss Giz terribly when he’s gone. It will basically be the first time in my life without a cat. 😦

But today he is still here, and I can still love on him. 🙂

  10. I’m most looking forward to our trip out west again this summer, this time with both sons and our daughter-in-law and other son’s girlfriend.

Your coat looks toasty warm and that’s all that matters when out walking your dogs, right?
