Training Week 10: Best Damn Race Savannah Half

I honestly don’t know quite where I am with the states — or halfs! I seriously need to update my “Races” page. It might be state #19 . .

I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Wendy @ Taking the Long Way Home and wrapping up BDR Savannah Half training.

Running Updates

Wednesday
Tuesday was a long day of travel with delays due to the snowstorm & a late bedtime for me. I wasn’t even sure I would want to run & it was chilly (38F, anyone?). I didn’t rush out there but the run was fine, especially with lots of photo stops.

I spent the last mile or so clutching the grass woven roses the homeless? woman insisted on making me — as I ran by she said happy Valentine’s Day & I said over my shoulder that it was my birthday. She called me back & insisted I take them (in a nice way). We chatted for a while but I had no money to give her (not that she asked for any).

Thursday
I had planned on 4, but needed to get back, shower & change. Turns out I probably could’ve finished the 4 but still just did 3. One more mile ain’t gonna make a difference at this point. The run was fine again.

Satruday
Not quite the race I wanted, but I finished mostly intact (aside from a large blood blister on a toe) & not my best or worst time. We enjoyed our time here and I’ve added GA so I call that winning.

Favorites of the week
The meet ups — Skirt Sisters above and Karen @ Runningfifty below.

All the food.

All the sights, which I’ll leave for another post. And running in skirts — now it’s back to reality and more snow. It’s February, after all.

  1. Congratulations on another state and race finish! I also want to run in Georgia but I’m just not sure which city I want to visit yet. The food you highlighted sounded amazing! I feel like one of the best parts of travel is checking out all the great restaurants lol

    1. The food was mostly really good! There are some great restaurants there, as well as some really touristy ones with food that was just meh. I’d been wanting to go a long time — we didn’t really have that much time and now I’d love to go back someday, but there are so many other places to see (just in this country).

    1. Thank you. Thankfully the blood blister was only painful that one day, even the next day it didn’t bother me much (and I was traveling home).

I do like to get there early to acclimate. It didn’t really help too much this time because it was very cool up until race day — but still, it wasn’t that bad, I’ve had much worse heat.

It definitely looks really ugly, though — I’ve never had one before — period!

    1. Blister seems to be healing, but then again, I haven’t been super active this week. I’m not training for anything right now so it’s time for some rest.

Don’t go to Savannah if you don’t want to indulge!

  2. I got one of those roses, too, when I was there!! I don’t think I had any money either. I mean, who carries money when they’re out for a run? (well, I suppose it would be a decent idea when running in a strange town. I do carry a credit card for just in case purposes.)

Yuck to the blood blister! Those are so uncomfortable! Has it healed yet?

    1. I actually managed to get the roses home unscathed, which was quite the feat really. I have a woven grass bowl from Kauai from several years ago so they go together nicely.

I did have a credit card on me (you just never know) but i’m pretty sure she didn’t take them. There were lots of other “vendors” for the roses in other places too!

The blood blister was only really painful the day of the race (thankfully, we left the next day). It’s much better, but i haven’t run since the race so not sure what will happen when I’m more active. Or if the nail’s a goner. I was very proud of never losing a toenail! So odd.
