Running Updates

Monday
This was my third running day in a row, although granted two of them were just easy running with the FTC group, but yesterday was my race. Slow & steady does it. The forecast rain didn’t appear until we finished, which was a big relief. Although I forgot that I ran on Saturday, just a tiny bit. It’s fine, still not training for anything, just enjoying the run.

Friday
It was a raw morning, so I opted for a progressive run on the treadmill. I thought it would be easier than a steady run. I also wanted to try to run all 4 miles. I don’t know what happened, but at about 2.5 miles I just had to get off and walk a little — and then again in about another half mile. I was feeling kind of light headed. I did finish it up, but man, this run kicked my booty for some reason.

First time running with Running Buddy D in a long time!

Saturday
Ran with a variety of our lovely FTC ladies for a couple of miles, then ran with Running Buddy D for another 3. She’s just home from Bucharest, where she ran a 10k! Finally a warm day, which was sort of unfortunately for all the runners running a new local half (including Darlene @ Myfirst5k.

It was actually warm enough to eat outside (even with that ominous cloud in the background)

Favorites of the week
Sorry Midwest, but I’m totally glad that Spring blizzard missed us. We had a lovely Spring day yesterday. I ran in a skirt. Mr. Judy grilled some burgers (I made myself a salad) and we were able to eat outside.

More & more daffodils every day (and the dogs looked in every direction but at me)

Spring is just about ready to pop, finally — I saw my first daffodils this week and the forsythia is almost beginning to bloom.

The stop at the Apple store was a tiny bit frustrating — I had made an appointment, but it seemed they just took people in the order they signed in, or so it seemed — I was right: it was the battery — and that’s mostly why there is a lack of photos this week.

We bought the phone refurbished. I now know that the battery should have been glued in — you could feel it moving around, but we’d read that that wouldn’t be a problem. Apparently it was, as from the moment I got the phone the battery drained really fast. It was my first iphone, and some research said it wasn’t abnormal for that model. Apparently it was, though, because with the new battery it definitely doesn’t drain as fast. I *think* they may have fixed another issued I’d been having too (connecting to wifi).

It wasn’t that expensive and it’s like I have a new phone!

To all those running down goals at Boston, may you have fair weather & good times!

Talk to me:

What flowers did you notice this week?

What do you like to do when you aren’t running?

Ever mentor other runners?

  1. Today’s Washington Post Business section has an article about buying refurbished phones. They suggest it, but also suggest getting info on the battery. Glad you were able to resolve your problem. I am enjoying on the flowers around here!

    1. When I paid she said the battery should last a couple of years, which is probably the life of the phone. I’ve had it a bit over a year. Now I just wish I’d gotten myself to the store a long time ago.

  2. My daffodils are on the verge of blooming! That means the tulips are next on deck, and the forsythia isn’t too far behind. We missed the crazy blizzard, but did get to enjoy the cold temps and crazy wind. Thanks for linking with us, Judy!

  3. All of the flowers and trees have been really popping this week and are so beautiful. Unfortunately they bring the pollen with them! It has been nice enough to sit outside on our deck as well this week too. You look happy in your run photo 🙂 Thanks for linking up!

    1. Yesterday was the only day warm enough to eat outside. We’d grilled earlier in the week but it was still too chilly to actually eat out there. Thankfully I don’t suffer much with allergies but Mr. Judy does.

  4. I hate it when I make an appointment but still have to wait more than expected or not be seen at said appointment. I’ve never purchased anything refurbished for fear that I would have problems with it. I guess new or used, there will be problems.

When I am not running, I am on the sofa reading or watching TV. I take my rest days very seriously. 🙂

    1. I tend to be super skeptical of refurbished, but we have bought quite a few things that way & most of the time, if you do your due diligence, it’s fine. It’s like buying a used car (which I also don’t like!).

I actually did take a rest day yesterday. Just a dogwalk & a little raking (like 15 minutes). I meant to do some yoga but it never happened.

  5. My last iphone, the 6 needed a new battery but it was defective (that model) and they gave it to me for free. It would already drain when it was cold. Yes, don’t make an appt for the Apple store, just go and they take your name. Doesn’t save time.

My hubby dropped something on his phone today. We opted not to go to the Apple store because they send away the phone to fix it. We went to the mall kiosk…it is fixed…needed a new mother board – over $200 ouch.

You know most of my answers. Love to mentor but not FTC – prefer to participate. But I have mentored kids and domestic violence survivors (the best!!)

When I don’t run, I love to play tennis or read or knit but mostly socialize with friends.

I usually run with Denise on Mondays. Can’t wait to hear about her trip tomorrow.

Lastly – yuck about the heat and humidity yesterday- a rude awakening..I felt light headed after the race…probably dehydrated.

    1. Mine is an iphone 6. We looked up the SN & it didn’t qualify for the free battery anyway. Thankfully it really wasn’t expensive — just unfortunate it happened at a time when we’ve had a lot of unusual large expenses but that’s life. I’m not a power user but I still need a phone.

I had a horrible experience with a mall store when I shattered the screen on my android & swore I would never go back.

That’s too bad there wasn’t enough water. I had very similar weather in Savannah, but thankfully I carried my own water. I probably still didn’t drink enough, but far more than I would have relying on water stops. There’s always the next half. 🙂

      1. ours happened the same day as the taxes – yikes.

I do most of my work on the phone…it’s where I blog, and comment, text friends, etc.

And I would never run without it.

  6. The weather on Saturday was so crazy to me because it felt like we went from barely having Spring, straight to summer! I also couldn’t get over the humidity – it was rough. I hope that isn’t an indication of how this summer will be 😦

  7. Flowers? We were just starting to see some daffodils but now they’re far under snow cover. It has snowed all damn day and it’s still coming down. Why do I live here again?

  8. Our flower season has opened and there was the “bloemen corso” (flower parade) in Lisse this weekend – this is a small town just outside the famous Keukenhof. The flower fields are incredibly gorgeous. I need to get out there again to see them. Otherwise it’s been very chilly here but the flowers are still popping up everywhere. My favourite season in the Netherlands!!!

Biking is my second favourite sporty hobby – though I do NOT have a race bike, my bike is good enough for me to tool around for as many kilometers as I can.

I have never mentored runners. I do try to help new runners that I meet or people who message me and ask me questions, but that’s about it.

    1. This is only the second year I’ve been doing the mentoring. Most mentoring opportunities are at night, for obvious reasons, but that doesn’t work so well for me.

I just don’t like biking. I’d never survive in Europe (although I am good at walking).

  9. Lots of cherry blossom and bluebells on my run yesterday – lovely! And tulips in the park. I love running without a goal – in fact I’m more than slightly missing my last autumn of just running for the sake of it. But I know that will return to me after July 14!

  10. Great news that they were able to fix the issues with your phone! I love the photos of the dogs outside 🙂 We have a lot of flowers blooming in our neighborhood right now. It’s definitely beautiful but I can feel my allergies complaining.

  11. What flowers did you notice this week? Our tulips are starting to come up. (In Wisconsin)

What do you like to do when you aren’t running? Hiking, riding our ATV’s and reading.

Ever mentor other runners? Never! I am no expert. I’m a slow runner & not sure I’m a good example.

    1. I bet you have a lot more to give than you think you do. You’ve already run a half marathon, after all!

I’m not fast, but this group is training for a 5k, and there are many slow runners in the group. They are so happy to have the coaches & mentors!
