Snuggles & Synchronicity: 4/29-5/5 WRD

Absolutely no acitivity to report (and if you follow me on IG here or read my Coffee/Tea Date post here, you know why). The very short story is I was pretty sick this week. Came out of nowhere.

Running Updates

Nothing to report. Didn’t even join Mr. Judy for the dogwalks. I just left this in so I can do my usual format for next week — I’m expecting to start running again at some point next week. And rebuilding. Again. Sigh.

Some snuggling

Favorites of the week
There were lots of doggy snuggles. Now the truth is Bandit is not a particularly snuggly dog, as I’ve written about a few times before.

Usually he is laying in a bed at my feet or on the other couch so he can keep guard over me

He was unusually snuggly on Monday. While I was gone that night, Mr. Judy said that he got up every time he (Mr. Judy) did, and would go to the staircase. I’ve been gone before (under much less dramatic circumstances) and he’s never done that before.

A running joke the rest of the week was that any time he did snuggle with me we had to worry. Because it truly seemed as though he sensed something was up on Monday. Even though I’m still not completely well, he’s mostly gone back to his non-snuggliness (why yes, I completely made that word up).

Lola, OTOH, enjoys a good snuggle

Lola didn’t seem to notice anything amiss, she was just very happy when I reappeared.

More than happy to snuggle with a human

All the training with the dog door paid off big time Monday. We’d already fed the dogs (but not ourselves). We were gone more hours than we’ve probably ever left them since we took Bandit in. They were able to go in and out to the yard.

They’ve pretty much mastered the door. They don’t always want to use it, but that just means they probably don’t really want to go out. We no longer have to hold it up for them, and most of the time they push through it no problem. The timing was perfect!

It also seemed like every show we watched this week had something to do with hospitals or fainting, hence the synchronicity. I also found us a new pet sitter for next weekend (Mother’s Day) that is literally just a little over a mile from our house. They have four chihuahuas. Meant to be, right?

We’ll see. We’re a little bit concerned as we’re their first customers — and they have a pool. We really need a backup sitter, though, and this would be so convenient so fingers crossed.

Do you board your pets, or have someone come in for them?

Doing an anti rain dance? Seriously, we’re plenty green now!

Any synchronicity in your week?

  1. ah Judy, I hope you are feeling a bit better now. Isn’t is sweet how (some) pets really miss us when we are away or are extra snuggly when we are sick? Bandit was worried about you! Good thing they know how to use the door properly! Fingers crossed all will go well with the doggie sitter next weekend.

We usually have someone come in and feed and water our cats. Usually a friend but the main one who does it just had a baby (yesterday!!), and I hadn’t even gotten a chance to ask our two alternatives since I heard from Ron that my stepson will come next weekend to take care of the cats for us (he’ll just stay here).

No synchronicity though I wasn’t really too much attention…

    1. We always had a pet sitter for the cats & the dogs have (almost) always gone to a pet sitter in their home, where they aren’t crated. Bandit had to go to a different place for a long time when we first got him (long story).

It’s been a slow recuperation, but I am definitely better.

  2. You had quite a week. I hope you feel 100% better soon. We need to figure out what to do with Scooby. We had my son’s friend take him for a few days in December, but that was more of a one time thing. I’d love to have someone come to the house but my husband is so concerned with privacy/security.

    1. I’m pretty sure our dogs wouldn’t do well for hours at home even though now they have the dog door (we couldn’t do that before because of the cats). We don’t have any relatives here. Good luck finding someone! Have you looked at any of the apps — Rover or Wag?

  3. Knock wood, we’ve been pretty lucky with the rain here (at least in my immediate area of the state). Other parts, though, have major flooding. I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better, I hope that continues 😉 We’ve never boarded max yet (we’ve had him just over 4 years)…usually my parents or sister can check on him if we’re gone. Thanks for linking with us, Judy!

    1. I’ve seen about the flooding in IA! My sister lived in Davenport for a couple of years when she was fairly newly married.

We have had days of cold rain. Not pouring but showers for most of the day.

We don’t have any relatives here & the dogs would never do well for many hours without human companionship!

  4. Glad to read that your dongs got the hang of the doggie door I hope you are feeling much better by the time you read this and that maybe you can at least walk in the coming week. Our grandsons visited this weekend, so my running calendar was pretty thin too. It’s raining now, so hubby and I went for wings and beers rather than running. Sigh! Maybe tomorrow! 🙂

    1. If it had ever stopped raining yesterday I would’ve walked the dogs (but it didn’t).

I’m feeling better, but still not going to mentoring today because I still don’t feel up to running. No reason to push things. Hopefully by the end of the week, hopefully I’ll be getting back to more normal eating because right now it’s super boring.

  5. Isn’t it amazing how perceptive pets are? I’m glad they mastered their doggie door too. A rest week sounds perfect for you as you bounce back from that illness. Running will be there when you’re ready. I returned from London to find everything blossoming. It’s gorgeous but yeah, the rain can stop now.

    1. Since I’m not training for anything I have no problems not running. It’s just frustrating because I felt I was finally back to normal from the last illness, and now it’s almost like starting from zero. Again. It is what it is though.

Funny thing, I actually thought I’d take the week before I got sick pretty easy!

It’s supposed to be beautiful today — warm! — then cold & raining tomorrow. 😦

  6. Glad you feel better. I love to read about your dogs because, as you know, I am an animal lover (and member of 3 associations for the animal protection). I have 2 cats at home and 2 in the garden, when we are far from home my daughter or my son take care of them.

    1. My last cat was put to sleep (he was 18 & in kidney failure with some other stuff going on) in January. Life is much simpler without cats, but I definitely miss him (and cats).

Unfortunately I have no relatives living close to me. (

    1. Although it came on suddenly like the flu, it wasn’t (they swabbed me for that). Mr. Judy didn’t catch it.

We’d gone out to eat on saturday with another couple, and while we all shared food, I was the only one that ate one dish. Mr. Judy was just about to make the leftovers for dinner when that all went down . . . he threw it out. I don’t actually think it was that. It was all just really weird.

    1. We have been through a lot of sitters mainly because they keep retiring. We have one we use a lot, but no longer any backup — and we always need backups!

It’s so much easier to find people nowadays thought, with the apps. I got lucky when we moved here 10 years ago (although eventually she stopped) — but it was a lot harder to find someone then.

  7. Glad to hear that you’re feeling better! I had a terrier mix years ago who wasn’t a huge snuggler, but anytime I was sick, he wanted to lay on top of my chest and snuggle my neck! Dogs are so intuitive!

    1. Even when I got back from the hospital he was back to his normal ways — he truly seemed to sense something was off (in retrospect).

OTOH, I went out for the first time today & he was pretty frantic when I was getting ready to leave.

  8. I am so happy you’re on the mend, Judy! That must have been so scary. I’m glad your pups were able to let themselves out while you were gone, and I hope things work out with your new sitter.

Hopefully, things will go smoothly as you start back running this week.

  9. I’m so glad you’re ok! And that is perfect timing on the dogs being able to use the dog door 🙂 We have to work on finding a back up pet sitter too. Our regular sitter let us know they won’t be able to do it for our September holiday. At least we have plenty of time to find someone but time has been moving so fast recently that I’m sure September will be here before we know it.

    1. We have gone through get a few pet sitters since we’ve lived here (we only had one pretty much the whole time we lived in TX). It’s a hard job. It’s something I could do now since we don’t have any cats, but quite frankly, I don’t want to!

  10. Sweet dogs and perfect timing on that door training! We have sitters who come in for short trips, a long weekend, they are great, I met the woman through running and she’s also a counsellor and pet bereavement counsellor. They send us a picture on WhatsApp and a little report of how Morgan is doing. Longer stays he goes to the cattery as he gets all the attention all the time there.

Hope you get back to some running when you feel up to it! Stay well!

  11. Oh my!!! I’m sorry to hear this happened (and I’m so late catching up to you!). I hope you are 100% by the time you get this. That is scary! My cats seem to know when things are off and they stay close by. I’m glad your husband was around to take care of you. We have someone stop by and visit our cats when we are gone. Lucky for us, the cats are hearty and don’t need to be visited every day. When we go camping for the weekend they get to hang out all alone. It’s nice to have pets that won’t eat 3 bowls of food in a day 🙂

    1. Thank you (no worries on catching up, I wasn’t reading much there for a while).

We used to have someone come in for the cats & the dogs go to someone.

Outside of my first couple of cats, I haven’t free fed any of my furkids. Mine would have happily eaten anything I left out for them — and stuff I didn’t leave out for them, LOL! They once got into a bag of flaxseeds and made an ungodly mess.
