To all who serve, Thank You!: 5/20-26 WRD

I didn’t really have a lot of running or errands this week, but it sure seemed busy nonetheless. Then my shoulder decided to protest the weight lifting. It wasn’t as if I was doing much or lifting crazy weights, but it got really sore. I found some yoga videos for shoulder pain that helped immensely, and I’m doing some of those stretches when I wake up — today it seems pretty good.

Usually I get this sort of pain when I’ve done too many planks/flows in yoga, but I haven’t been doing much of that. The good news is I’m pretty sure it’ll go away on its own & probably relatively quickly — but I always hate when you’re doing something good for your body and it hurts you!

Running Updates

Yup, it got hot in a hurry!

Monday
It was an extremely warm/humid afternoon to run. Of course when you want it the rain is AWOL! It allowed me to actually run in a light outfit — most likely quite similar to what I’ll be running in next Saturday. It was the last day for our Monday mentoring group, as there’s no group run on Memorial Day (and I’ll be with my parents anyway).

1 mile up & down a moderate hill

Friday
Several of us wanted to go to one of the trail runs on Thursday, but the weather called for showers/thunderstorms. We had a brief downpour, but no thunder. However, I was very tired after quite a few nights of bad sleep, it was a 30 minute drive, and I decided to skip it (as did all the friends thinking about showing up).

Friday was a lovely day. I did some hill repeats, kept a very consistent pace, and extended my run to 4 miles for the first time since April.

Saturday
The race (a 5k) is next week! So this was our last Saturday group run. Ran an easy 3 miles with several different ladies, wishing several that I’ve gotten to know good luck in case I don’t seem them next week — it’s a large group when we’re all together! One of the perks of joining the Freihofers Training Challenge is that there’s a VIP tent near the start line for its members — a place you can leave your stuff, get out of the sun before/after, and of course, meet up with your friends.

Favorites of the week
We finally got to see Avengers Endgame. I personally thought it was too long (I’m in the minority it seems) and there are just too many story lines (and there are several movies in the series that I haven’t seen, like Ant Man). Which is not to say it was bad, but when I checked the time 2 hours in, I thought, really? Another hour?

We can close that door so the dogs still have access to some grass, but not the whole yard, when we’re out

What I did love is that the dogs survived with us being gone for 4+ hours. The dogs having access to the kennel outside is really a game changer for us!

I haven’t been able to find any cucumber plants that actually looked healthy, so I guess we won’t try cucumbers this year. I did get lettuce, chard, tomatoes, and a strawberry plant in the ground this week. There are still some herbs & some marigolds to plant, but they’re pretty hardy so they’ll just have to wait a bit.

If you’ve seen Avengers Endgame, what did you think?

Any trouble adjusting to suddenly warm weather?

If you celebrate Memorial Day, any fun plans? We’ll be joining my parents at the BBQ at their senior living community (the dogs get to come this time).

  1. Sometimes I get those random shoulder or elbow pains and don’t really know why. Hope yours was s feeling better. I’m not an Avengers movie person am I missing something? Thanks for linking up

    1. My shoulder was feeling better but this morning was sore again. But I’ve got some stretches now that relieve the pain. Still, I’d like it to just go away (I know it will at some point).

  2. I have not seen any Avengers movies…but they sound intriguing (Much more so than Game of Thrones LOL).I’d have to start at the very beginning, though, and marathon-watch them or I’d be totally lost. It got suddenly hot here, too…..much like last year. I thing Spring 2019 was a total bust. Thanks for linking with us, Judy!!

    1. Seriously, if you haven’t seen any — there’s like 22 movies. I wouldn’t suggest it! I haven’t seen them all, but enough to be able to mostly follow along.

Despite the rain, I can remember worst springs (that’s my glass half full!).

  3. I have not seen the Avengers movie but I really have no desire to see it (I know I’m in the majority). I’m just not really into those types of movies.

This weekend (today) I ran a half marathon but I don’t have any plans on Memorial Day but to go for a walk, run a few errands and BBQ.

  4. That’s so nice that you are able to join your parents for a Memorial Day gathering. I love that! I waited too long to begin my run this morning and the hazy, hot, and humid had already started. I actually liked it. Sweating felt good and I took it easy with several walk breaks. We are having a blue crab feast with my son and his family today. Yum!

    1. Your crab feast sounds amazing!

Today would be just perfect for running but I know it’s just not the best idea. Hoping the showers hold off on tomorrow since that’s when I’ll have the time!

We spend a lot of time going to my parents. And not enough, of course.

      1. Yes, exactly – not enough. There is never enough time to spend with the people we love. The crab fest was fun, but crabs and beer were sadly not the best pre-long-run meal! 🙂

  5. I haven’t seen Endgame yet. But I didn’t see the previous one either, so I figured it was a lost cause for me. I have really liked some of the Marvel movies (Ironman, Ant man) but I haven’t seen them all so I may be a bit lost. I think it’s something I’ll watch during the summer though!

  6. Not an Avengers fan. Am I missing out?

My uncle (my mom’s brother) isn’t doing well. We have tickets to see Aladdin but it depends on how he is doing in the morning if we see the movie or not.

Have a great Memorial Day with your parents.

  7. After the incident I cannot lift weights anymore. Before I went to a gym for a circuit of lifting weights (the owner/trainer was a world champion of boxe in 3 categories). Have a great Memorial Day and … good luck on your next race.

  8. That kind of movie is not my thing. Going to see Photograph on Tuesday.

Loving the weather. Doesn’t seem too warm yet.

I love flowers. Hope to get them today.

Will you run with same ladies on Sat.?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. No, I don’t have any plans to run with any of the people from the group sat. I am hopeful that the weather will actually be good this year! I’m not expecting much time-wise but still would like to run my own race.

      1. No, you do not have to run with anyone — it’s up to you. You’re encouraged to run with different people, not the same people all the time (which is what I did).

It’s not like STEM, where there are multiple mentors per runners — the opposite.

Of course you can choose to, as Jan did last year — to my knowledge she is running her own race this year.

      2. That’s what I figured. I am sure if you befriended one of them and they asked you to help them get through the finish line, you would.

That’s what we do for STEM. Sometimes we help them. Sometimes they do not need our help.

  9. We keep having suddenly warm, then suddenly cool again, so I haven’t had a chance to adjust to warm weather yet.

I start most of my garden from seeds, and my cucumbers are so tiny compared to everything else. Maybe it’s just not a good year for cucumbers.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Well, tiny doesn’t always mean weak! I don’t really have anywhere to start seeds in our house. I suppose if I really wanted to I would find the space — I used to do it when we lived in a condo & all I did was patio gardening.

Our weather is still back & forth too, but not as extreme as yours, I’m sure.

  10. My husband went to see Endgame on his own 🙂 I just wasn’t into it! But I know everyone has raved about it.

Glad you can spend the holiday with your parents, have a wonderful time!

  11. If you’ve seen Avengers Endgame, what did you think? No desire whatsoever to see it.

Any trouble adjusting to suddenly warm weather? There hasn’t been any in NW Wisconsin yet.

If you celebrate Memorial Day, any fun plans? Picnic in the park.

  12. It was suddenly warm this weekend. It makes for better biking than running. My son is growing peppers, green beans, squash and tomatoes in planters on his patio and they are doing great so far!

  13. Sorry about the shoulder and hope that’s feeling properly better now. Hope your mentees have (had?) a great race and you’ll hear how they do moving forward. Husband enjoyed Avengers Endgame but I’ll wait until it’s on TV as I’m a few behind anyway.

    1. The race is sat. The shoulder is on & off, still, but t’s a lot better. Wasn’t really a big deal, just a pain, so to speak — especially since I’d like to be lifting some weights, but until it’s normal, not a good idea.
