It’s getting hot in here: Spilling over tea/coffee July 2019

btea719

Summer continues its a-little-too-enthusiastic grip on us, but that didn’t stop me from racing this July 4! It might have if it wasn’t for my running friends, though, I runfess (wait — wrong linkup!).

Confessions of a Mother Runner

Pull up a chair and mug with Coco and Deborah and me for the ultimate coffee tea date — I have lots to share: the weather is always a good topic amongst runners, what to do with leftover cookies, looking at the world through rain colored glasses.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I tend to be a glass half full gal. Yes, I can get as down as the next person about all the rain. And there has been plenty of it. In between the rainy days, though, there have been some beautiful ones. Those are the ones I hold onto.

Always hot & we stay in the AC as long as possible!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell that Firecracker 4 seems to be a good barometer for global warming (or so it seems anyway). It’s always hot, but it seems to be getting hotter and hotter every year.

Cookies be gone!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I finally had an aha moment with those cookies I runfessed about last week (read it here) and realized that Mr. Judy could take them to his next target shooting match. I’m sure they’ll all appreciate it, and my hips and thighs will thank me!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you that it seems like we jam all the fun things into summer, which is rather short in these parts (especially this year!). It’s so hard to motivate yourself to get out as much in Winter (which is long) when it seems like it’s perpetually dark and definitely cold. Gotta make hay while the sun shines, right?

Can’t sleep in in summer with these two to walk!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you it’s harder to juggle the dogwalks with the running in summer. Lola, who is 13, is not very heat tolerant anymore so she needs early walks. Of course, I’m not all that heat tolerant either, so it’s hard to get them out and also get myself out at a decent hour for my run!

If you celebrated, how’d your 4th go?

Fun fourth of July races?

Has there been an unusual amount of rain where you live?

I am also linking up with the  Fridays with Fairytales and Fitness from Fairytales & Fitness.

  1. I know it’s rained a lot but I don’t it has interfered with my runs.

Had a great 4th. No race and no FOMO. It was very comfortable on the lake and the fireworks were great. Now I am suffering getting home after midnight and at work at 8 am.

You need to adopt Kim’s 5@5. That will miss the heat.

I froze those cookies (which did not stop the hubby). I had two boxes. I was going to suggest bringing them to the party.

    1. I’ll bet if you didn’t have the option to go boating you would have FOMO about the 4th races. Some of us don’t have that option.

Not much sleep lately since Bandit developed a hot spot and spend most of the night laying by me pinning my arm to the bed, then Lola joined in the fun and took over my hand. It was super uncomfortable but at least he wasn’t chewing on himself. Off to the vet later today. 😦

      1. No, I would have raced if the hubby didn’t want to boat. I may have chosen the 1 mile race in Clifton Park though. That looked fun. I have always wanted to see how fast I could run a mile.

  2. I celebrated the 4th with a class at OrangeTheory Fitness. Unfortunately, we don’t have a 4th of July race where I live. Plus it was so hot yesterday that I was kind of happy I did a workout indoors!

    1. Yes, it’s still fun getting in all the steps before most people are even up — although this is a local race with a lot of spectator support — not sure I’d be standing out there in that heat, but i’m really appreciative that they do.

  3. Yep, super steamy and stormy here too but that’s not my focus. I’m having fun anyway. I hear you on the conflict between dog walking and running. Ozzy always wants to hit the trails with me first.

    1. Today is particularly steamy (and will be stormy later). Most of our group ran today. The friend I did Thursday’s race with & I decided to go out tomorrow, when it’s supposed to be about 10 degrees cooler & far less humid.

Here I pray for a bit of rain. With a couple of friends we are waiting for it to make a workout under a refreshing rain: this is a secret pleasure of mine.

    1. Lately I’ve actually been wishing for rain on our hot runs! We are supposed to get some today, which will temporarily break our hot spell. I don’t like running in cold run, but it’s nice in summer.

I hope you get some soon!

  5. I actually DID go for a 4th of July run over here!! Well, I went for a run yesterday and my friend Mary Ellen was with me and she’s American and we wished her a happy day: does that count? And it wasn’t a race. And we stopped running pretty soon as just walked because it was Too Hot (75, I know, feeble us!).

  6. I ran a 4th of July race this year and it was so hot! We did see fireworks that night and the bugs were so bad that we wrapped up in a blanket and sweatshirt and hood to keep the bugs away and we were sweating our butts off but the bugs didn’t get us.

    1. I think I would’ve just left if the bugs had been that bad.

My husband doesn’t like crowds, but my Dad didn’t mind — we almost always stopped on the way from visiting my grandfather (his birthday was the 4th) to watch the fireworks in NYC.

Again, my sympathies on the loss of Baylee.

  7. If you celebrated, how’d your 4th go? We went for a run in the am & relaxed at home.

Fun fourth of July races? No reaches here or maybe I’d have signed up for one.

Has there been an unusual amount of rain where you live? We had an unusual amount of snow in March & many rainy days here. But like you said, you have to get out when you can. Winters are long in Wisconsin.

  8. We’ve had afternoon showers but not too many rainy days lately — I’ve had to water my plants! Some mornings it’s been so gross I decide NOT to run after walking Scooby. I just don’t need to suffer.

Thanks for joning us for … tea?

    1. I’ve had to water the plants, too, but mainly because it’s been so unseasonably hot for us.

And yes, I drink tea year round — but not iced tea. I just don’t like it cold, go figure!

  9. Pablo is coming to stay for a week in late July and I’m already thinking about juggling his early morning walks with my runs. It’s all good and I can’t wait for him to visit!

We just had another thunder storm with heavy rain go through. It’s been really hot and humid here this week. Speaking of hot, I ran in a race on July 4th and my friends and I had a blast as usual!

Have a great rest of your weekend!
