Happy 34 to Us: 10/14-20 WRD

I don’t post a lot to my personal FB page — although I’m always saying I should do it more because I do love looking at those memories — but this weekend the weather Gods aligned to give us the perfect day on our anniversary (our actual wedding day, not so much). We made the most of it. It also had me running long solo the day before on a windy, cooler day — and how did that work out for me?

Running Updates

All the leaves

Monday
Went with some running friends to the Lawson Lake Trail Festival. This one was for fun, not for time (let’s just say that was a good thing, see my recap on Tuesday). A pretty park but some major hills so there was a lot of walking. Thankful for even more perfect running weather!

All the Halloween decorations

Tuesday
Late afternoon recovery run. Yes, we’re still having great weather. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a “run” of weather this nice. The legs felt heavy but the pace was decent at a decent heart rate.

The weather sounded like this run would be tough, but it wasn’t that bad

Friday
I don’t know why, but the pace was much slower due to my HR today from the get-go. I can understand the heart rate going up as the run goes on, as you fatigue. Tuesday’s run was so strong.

I tackled a hilly route again, as the 15k, if I do it, is hilly. My first double digit run in 8 months. It’s not the first time I’ve gone that long between halfs, but there’s no half in the near future, so after the 15k I’ll drop my long runs back down.

It was quite windy, and I thought it would feel really cold, but I was probably overdressed. With the sun going in & out ultimately I was happy with what I wore. Didn’t need the neck gaiter, though, and glad I didn’t put on light gloves because I didn’t need them, either.

I was pleased that I got up most of the first, long big hill on this route without my heart rate spiking until the top. I also noted how quickly my heart rate would come down on any decline, no matter how small — my body really does love a downhill!

Anniversary Shenanigans

Favorites of the week
Glad the weatherpeople finally got a forecast right, because our anniversary Saturday was picture perfect. Literally! A little chilly, though; I am wearing three layers of tops and needed every single one!

I’d decided this summer if the weather was nice on our anniversary, we’d go to Prospect Mountain — we’d tried in the summer, but although many reviews said it was dog friendly, there’s a sign for the scenic drive saying no pets allowed.

Turns out they’re not allowed on the shuttle to the summit or near the picnic areas at the summit, but otherwise it’s okay. Good to know, although we left the pups at home. You can also hike up to the Summit from the village, but that’s a bit beyond what Mr. Judy wanted to do.

We also enjoyed a lot of eating out this weekend. We even found a pizza place we both like — the last one we tried that we both liked closed shortly after we tried it. We like very different things in pizza places, so finding one we both like is a big deal.

Lastly I could use some good vibes for Tuesday. The studio yoga class I went to today had a substitute teacher — the owner of the studio. I chatted with her afterward and now I’m doing a demo for her on Tuesday! I can use all the “do a great (or at least good) job” vibes I can get!

Do you & your SO have trouble choosing restaurants, or do you enjoy the same things?

What would your ideal anniversary/birthday look like?

Would you walk or run through those leave covered trails?

  1. It’s not the leaves but the rocks and roots.

I’ve love to be on a beach somewhere but our anniversary is in Jan. We went to St roix for our honeymoon and said we’d go back but it’s been 20 years and we rarely travel together :(Maybe for our 30th??

I love to try all kinds of food and am not fussy about restaurants. The hubby…Delmonicos for steak. Period.

    1. Ah, but it is the leaves because they hide the rocks & roots.

We went on a cruise for our honeymoon. We have been on many other cruises, but it’s been a really long time since we’ve been back to the Caribbean.

So Bermuda is your anniversary trip? 😉

  2. May the Force be with you, Judy!!

I am sending good vibes for Tuesday, but I know it’s going to be an awesome experience for you!

Points for approaching the studio owner, too! 🎉🕺

  3. Happy anniversary! I’m glad you had a nice day to celebrate. My husband and I like different restaurants, but there are a lot we both like. I’m sure you’ll do great Tuesday – you’ve got this!

    1. Thanks, Deborah!

Mostly we can agree on restaurants, but then again I’m not a fan of the fried fish restaurants. Pizza has always been a struggle, because we seem to never like the same place, so this was huge! Even better that it sells pizza by the slice. I hate getting a whole pizza — it’s just too much for the two of us.

  4. Awesome week and happy anniversary! Our anniversary was the 18th 🙂 My husband was traveling though, so we went out to dinner Saturday instead. October weddings can be tricky with the weather for sure. I was thinking about that last weekend when we had surprise snow that it could have easily been our wedding- all our out of town guests would have for sure always thought of Minnesota as that cold snowy place 🙂

Great job getting in some hills to prep for your race!

    1. MN IS that cold, snowy place, LOL! We actually went out to eat on your anniversary, because we didn’t want to leave the dogs for hours & then go out to dinner Saturday.

I’m sorry your husband was traveling on yours. That’s happened on some of our special occasions (usually my birthday) quite a few times. It always sucks!

  5. Sending good vibes to you for Tuesday. It’s almost like an audition!

Congrats on 34 years to you and your hubby. Looks like you had a lot of fun shenanigans on Prospect Mountain. What a perfect place to go on a nice Fall day!

    1. Thanks, Laurie, we really had a lovely day. And thanks for the good vibes — it actually is an audition!

Because of the situation with my Dad right now, I’m just looking to get on her substitute list. She could have used me yesterday!

  6. Best of luck with the yoga demo! As your first one (I think) it will be a great learning and growing opportunity for you. I wish you very well with it. I know you know how to explain things very well, so that’s a great start, as I’ve had several teachers who really don’t explain things clearly!

And I love your autumnal pictures. Happy anniversary! We got married in April on a decent, bright day but a lot of our anniversaries so far have been damp and dreary!

    1. Well, explaining it in a blog post and live in person are very different things. I feel ready though, and as it’s soon, I guess I am! Thank you for the vote of confidence!

Both October and April are such iffy months. Here, in both months, it can snow.

Then there’s my birthday, in deep winter . . .

  7. Happy Anniversary! Glad you were blessed with perfect weather. We agree on restaurants as long as the Caveman gets his way. 😛 I actually called him out on this on Saturday. All the best with the yoga demo. You’ll be great!

    1. LOL, I hear you on the restaurant situation. Actually we do like a lot of the same things, and there are some things I don’t get to eat often enough for my liking, and visa versa.

      Thanks for the good vibes!

  8. Happy anniversary! My husband and I always agree on a restaurant since we both like the same types of foods which is really most everything (except I don’t eat sushi). We always like to go hiking for our anniversary if possible!

    1. Obviously I agree about downhills. 🙂 The yoga demo went ok, I don’t know why, I totally skipped a section in the beginning — which made it not quite as cohesive (and it’s hard in a 20 min demo!).

She was very nice though, and said she’ll add me to their substitute list, which was all I was going for anyway. I still need lots of practice! And I knew that.
