Moving into 2020: 12/23-29 WRD

It was a somewhat challenging week to get in movement, due to travel and weather, but I managed pretty well. Got together with friends, briefly, attended a party, was there for my family.

Joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and continuing my run when I can theme — and often walk when I can, too. I have to walkfess that I enjoy walking on my own sometimes (without the dogs).

Running Update

Love the reindeers that glitter!

Monday
More hill repeats — because I could. Actually we are finally warming up, and for the first time (after a very frustrating morning), this run felt really good. Running off the frustration.

Tuesday
I haven’t run 2 days in a row much since I’ve only been running 3 days a week, but I would be on my way to admit my Dad to the nursing home & stay with my Mom a few days and didn’t know when I’d have the opportunity to run again. To the mill it was — streets definitely runnable, but time was an issue.

Most of the snow had melted, but obviously not all.

Friday
I really needed to run off the stress again. Rain in the forecast, starting time always changing, but I got out there relatively early since I had to be back for a call. My friends planned to run Saturday, but I just needed to pound some pavement. Plus I had a holiday party to go to in the evening.

Still a few icy patches here & there, but much warmer than last week!

I like the electric menorah!

Favorites of the week
I liked my mom’s electric menorah (they’re not allowed to have candles there).

A night of pizza, holiday treats, and a gift swap (and steal!)

We attended a party for volunteers at the Humane Society (Mr. Judy volunteers there). There was pizza, baked goods, and a Yankee swap. I did my long run that morning. I don’t have to run to indulge, but I have to admit, it makes me feel better to feel I’ve earned my treats.

I hope to have a new Yoga video out after the New Year to help you set a word or intention for 2020. Stay tuned! Thanks for checking out my Yoga videos — I’d love it if you drop a comment or hit the like button (assuming you enjoy them, of course).

I hope that everyone has a safe, happy New Years.

Are you looking forward to a new decade?

Did you ever pick a word for 2020?  What is it (see mine here)?

Have you set some intentions/goals/resolutions for 2020?

  1. Awesome job re-arranging things this week to get your runs done!

The party for the Human Society volunteers sounds like a lot of fun. Although the holidays can be stressful, it’s also a great time to connect with friends and family.

  2. Great job in running off the mental stress this week! You said it was going to be tough and I guess some days were challenging, to say the least. But you made it and had a happy party at the end! 😊

  3. I’m always in need of running off the stress–I feel like it’s always something. Having aging parents and young adult children gives me plenty to ruminate on! Glad running was there for you. I hope everything is well with your dad. Happy New Year!

    1. Luckily I’m not really sandwiched (elderly parents/children). Often running is kind of the last thing on my mind these days, but Friday, I really needed it.

Basically my Dad is almost end stage dementia. So no, not really going well but maybe he’ll stabilize some with more routine. I hope, anyway.

I’m a bit worried about my mom as well. 😦

    1. A Yankee Swap is sort of complicated. You get numbers, and you choose a gift. The next person can either choose a new gift or steal your gift, in which case you get to choose a new gift. Gifts can be stolen multiple times. Yup, it takes a while to get through it!

  4. That electric menorah is neat! A great alternative, given the location 🙂 I sure have been thinking of you and your family…hoping all is going as smoothly as can be expected. I’m glad you have running and yoga to get you through the challenges.

  5. So you do run as therapy. Hope it helped.

I have done 3 yankee swaps. They’re so fun.

I do pick a word. Just haven’t posted about it.

    Good luck with your dad.

Doesn’t look like running weather for a few days. I should I have run today.

    1. I definitely use running to destress sometimes, but I’m usually ok if I can’t run (for a while).

Definitely not running weather the next couple of days. Although Tuesday after work might be ok for you.

  6. I also like the electric menorah- we have one somewhere. Sounds like a less stressful week for you. Happy Hanukkah to you and yours! Running and yoga are great stress relievers (also chocolate)

    1. I explained the Yankee Swap in my reply to Liz Dexter. 😉

My husband knows I’d kill him if he came home with a dog (might be more accepting of a cat since we’re presently catless). When we lived in TX I volunteered at the Humane Society but I never brought any animal home. I had 2 elderly cats at the time who needed a lot of care.

Then a friend had a small cat rescue & I volunteered there. I got burned out on volunteering, it’s his turn!

    1. No, just a gift card to Little Caesars. We had a small bottle of Fireball Whiskey for a while (there was also a larger bottle in the swap), but I don’t drink and Mr. Judy has gout and hard liquor aggravates it.

There was a glass bird bath that got stolen multiple times! The only thing I would have really enjoyed were Regal gift cards, but unfortunately they got taken after we got to choose again.

  7. I’m sorry about your Dad. I know that had to have been a hard decision.

Obviously, I didn’t have any running this week, but I did have some gym time and strength training.

Love that your husband volunteers at the animal shelter!

    1. You did a lot this week!

I volunteered a lot at the Humane Society, then at a friend’s rescue when we lived in TX. Gotta admit I burned out on it — especially as a lot of my furkids get older & needed a lot of care.

  8. I’m sorry about your dad, Judy. I guess it really doesn’t get easier even if he’s in a place with more routine. My grandmother was in care forever (I think 9 years) and my dad was the only one (of 3 living children) who went to see her. Obviously I couldn’t because the distance between Arnhem and Albuquerque is huge, but when I was there I went. So I can see how running could at least take away some of the stress and feelings from what your dad and your mom are going through. I can’t offer much but a giant virtual hug unfortunately.

Here’s to more runs in the new year (and looking forward to yoga videos)

    1. My FIL had dementia, and unfortunately it started at a somewhat young age. They cared for him at home, which was extraordinarily tough, and it was many years.

We just aren’t in the same situation, but I really don’t expect him to outlive 2020, and even my mom has said sooner rather than later now.

I appreciate all the hugs I can get, virtual or real — so thank you!

There will definitely be more running, probably a little light on racing again this year, but who knows?

  9. Running also helps me deal with stress and everything else going on in life. Thanks to you I have my word for 2020. It is “joy”. We did a White Elephant game (similar to yours) and it is fun seeing the gifts that are stolen from one another. I ended up with a face masks kit which I think is cool.

  10. Pounding the pavement for me is always a great way to relieve some stress. So I’m glad you were able to get some sessions in. Running my first marathon in 2020 and trying to get 20 races done in 2020. Not quite sure how it will all come together, but staying hopeful! Wishing you a Happy New Year!
