Aging isn’t for sissies: Tea/coffee Date March 2020

Mr. Judy and the dogs are once again front and center if we were getting together over a hot beverage. Aren’t they always?

Ultimate-Coffee-Date-1-300x300

Pull up a chair and mug with Coco and Deborah and me for the ultimate coffee tea date: can we talk? Especially about the damn menopot!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I would tell you Mr. Judy was away last week at a conference. I finally got my alone time. Somehow I accomplish a great deal more when he isn’t home. I am, however, very grateful that we were not clobbered with a big snowstorm this time.

Mr. Judy has gone to this conference many times, and we’re almost always hit with a big one while he’s away. I didn’t have to shovel once!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you that I am all care-giver’d out. It’s been one thing after another since we moved to NY 11 years ago: parents and a whole string of aging furkids. Lola was having stomach issues while Mr. Judy was gone. She was waking me up several times a night to go outside. I am quite grateful that she didn’t just do something inside, but still.

One night it was so bad that I left the back door, the one with the pet door that we usually close at night, open. I knew it was the only way I was going to get any sleep.

Aging is not easy, in humans or animals. Good thing they’re cute.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you that it is also ironic — and sad — that 4 years ago Lola was the one that had to be admonished to slow down on walks because Chester was in heart failure and couldn’t walk that fast. Now it’s Bandit who has to slow down for Lola. She’s not in heart failure, at least not yet, but she is old (14) and definitely showing it.

No worries, I still have plenty that fit & are flattering.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I have a large pile of jeans to donate. They actually fit — my guess is that I am probably thinner now than I was when I bought them — but let’s just say things have shifted and a lower rise does this middle aged body no favors. Damn menopot! Do you feel me? I know some of you do, anyway.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you that something is going on with me and soap lately. I brought a different brand of dishsoap. In trying to get it going the first time, I ended up with soap all over my sweater. I was not pleased. I won’t be buying that brand again.

Then I was reaching over to get the cup that holds our toothbrushes so I could wash it, and I knocked the soap container into the sink, where it proceeded to break into a million pieces.

I scooped up the pieces to throw out in the garbage in the kitchen, unwittingly trailing soap across the bathroom, the hallway, and the kitchen floor. There’s a trash can in the bathroom. Don’t ask me why I didn’t just throw it in there. Maybe sleep deprivation The soap container was cheap, but I really liked it. I almost bought two at the time . . .

Is your body shifting (but maybe not your weight)?

One word to describe 2020 Winter so far? I admit I don’t know what I’d pick, so I’m interested to see what you pick.

Do you buy multiples of things you like?

  1. I had to google “menopot” – ha, what a fitting expression! I am 52 and I can definitely feel some shifts in my body composition. Somehow my waist is broader and I definitely have more of a potbelly than I used to. Sooner or later I will have to go through my jeans as well!

  2. Menopot is least of our problems. There’s sagging skin, wrinkles, age spots, cataracts. Oh my? Not there yet (maybe a little) but I have older friends.

Focusing on the positives, we out there moving.

Loved having the hubby away since I’m the one always gone. The house was neat and clean. No clutter for a few days.

Winter for me was BUSY. Work, 3 big races, pt, dr visits. Not a minute to breathe it seemed.

    Hope things settle down.

    1. Winter was very busy for me as well. Not with good things.

I definitely have sagging skin (some of that is just from gaining & losing 40 lbs multiple times in my life), age spots, and yes, even cataracts starting.

Unfortunately it was not very restful with the husband away, no doubt why I’m not feeling good this week.

  3. I have definitely developed a thicker waist! I’ve really cut back on breads, pastas, all those refined carbs and that has helped a lot. I agree with Darlene, the sagging skin is really bothering me. As are a few other aging issues that need not be mentioned. No, aging is not for the weak. But we’re all doing great, staying active and social!

  4. I have definitely developed a. monopot despite my working out like a crazy person. That and the age spots are really upsetting me. I am not ready to look old! LOL Yes you have been a caregiver (and a darn good one) for a long time and I cannot imagine how exhausting that is. Thanks for catching up over coffee today

    1. Well, I will say, as we get older, it’s important to work out — but not like a crazy person. Our bodies tend to get too stressed out when we’re HIITing it. It’s always something, right?

    1. Yes, she seems back to normal. Although we haven’t been out yet, so she hasn’t had a kong (a plastic toy stuffed with treats) — I think that was the problem, so we’ll see how that goes the next time she has one.

  5. Poor Lola and Bandit! I feel your pain. Benji is now 14 and he is having anxiety issues. We have had some sleepless nights because of them.

I know what you mean about things shifting around as we get older. Aging really isn’t for sissies, is it? That was one of my mom’s favorite sayings too.

    1. Lola is also 14. She’s always been high strung, but it’s also getting worse. Bandit is the anxious one, although if you saw him, you wouldn’t realize it.

Yup, my mom often says aging is hard. I was just wondering today if maybe it will be easier for our generation, because so much has changed. Only time will tell, right?

  6. Sweet Lola! Our Bentley is going on 13, and we think Delilah will be 10. Bentley was always a firecracker until he had a vestibular episode last year and he’s slowed way down 😦

I feel like things always happen when my husband goes out of town: dogs get sick or hurt, something breaks or there is some emergency (like the time our hot water heater set on fire!!!!!). Super annoying,

    1. Oh my, thankfully I haven’t had anything catch on fire while he was gone! Once had kids trying to break in in the middle of the night, I really think they left me alone because of Chester. Then the AC kept going out (when we lived in TX) — that was definitely not fun.

  7. Compared to last winter, this one was MILD.The hubby started a new job in November of 2018, so last winter was the first winter (in our married lives) that he’s done a lot of traveling. It seems like whenever he was out of town last winter was when the blizzards hit or the sub ZERO temps, etc. This year, the son has been living with us (post-college, awaiting the possession of his condo), and we’ve had nothing to deal with other than a couple of mornings that required some shoveling.

    1. My husband has done a lot of traveling for work every since we got married, although there are times that are more intense and times that are less intense.

I was really happy not to have to shovel this time — I’ve had to handle some doozies while he’s been gone — and with everything with Lola going on — it was hard enough as it was.

  8. I’m sorry about the link up this week. I’m not sure what happened.
Taking care of aging furbabies and people is hard. I’ve been there with both.
I would say our winter was SO Mild this year. Although one year we had a huge storm over St. Patrick’s day weekend, so we will see what happens! -M

    1. Mild does seem to be the word coming to people’s minds. Ours was too, but we got that huge snowstorm back in the beginning of December. Still, didn’t have to do much shoveling this year & that always makes me happy.

Pretty typical to snow here in April, too, but it doesn’t usually stick around long by that point — thank goodness!

  9. Yeah, my body’s shifting as I re-gain weight as my thyroid calms down. I’m trying to not obsess over it! Of all the things to spill, soap has to be not so bad.

  10. Is your body shifting (but maybe not your weight)? Yes it is. I got a bad case of the sags. I have read running makes skin saggy but I cannot stop. I try to watch my weight and it helps, but only surgery can fix that.

One word to describe 2020 Winter so far? I admit I don’t know what I’d pick, so I’m interested to see what you pick. Crazy. We had snow, sun, flurries, sun showers just this week. Today? 50’s & WI that’s a heat wave.

Do you buy multiples of things you like? Yes, art work & pottery.

Winter here – most definitely mild
I’m very much known for buying the same shirt in three colors. It was worse when we had Kohls

    1. Lola is definitely much better. Happy her pack is back together. She still hasn’t had a kong though . . .

Yeah, if i really like something I buy it in all the patterns! I’m looking at you, high rise 7/8 leggings.

      1. From what I remember from our brief meeting, you’re about the same height. How do they fit length wise? I have ISSUES with some of the capris. Lotta Breeze is OK, new Lioness is not a capri. I’m afraid of the tights all being too long. Winter Wonderland was very tempting – glad it went out of stock in Gym Girl before I could get it

      2. I think I’m just a tiny bit shorter than you (5’1″). Yes, the capris are not capris on me either. But they’re comfy, and I most often wear them with knee high compression socks anyway.

The tights are too long, but again, it doesn’t really bother me. The 7/8 tights are perfect as leggings — at least they were in last season’s.
