A little break (hopefully): 3/2-8 WRD

After my run on Tuesday, I just didn’t feel well the next day. Nothing serious, basically just fatigue, slight temp, and muscle aches. Unfortunately it persisted the rest of the week. No big goals, so I gave my body some much-needed rest. Hoping to pick up where I left off next week. So very little activity.

Running Update

More bulbs pushing through and aren’t these Brooks the cutest? Too bad I have pretty much nothing that matches them! They were really comfortable, too.

Tuesday
I really lucked out and got out there before the rain, while the sun was still brightly shining. It was 59F by the time I finished, y’all! Loving these hints of Spring. Not loving how tired I was, so I decided to make it an easy run, which was a good call, I think (especially as I got sick the next day). My HR went really high for no reason at one point, which meant a slow pace, but all in all, an enjoyable run — I just wish I’d worn a skirt! Always so hard to figure out those transitional days.

Nurses Bandit & Lola

Favorites of the week
Bandit did the rare lay on me thing (usually he only lays on us when he’s cold or wants something – and sometimes when I’m sick or really stressed). I had to get Mr. Judy to capture the moment.

I also started seeing robins this week, like many other bloggers. Although our weather is still bouncing back and forth between Spring and Winter, Robins are always the first sign that Spring is truly on its way. Today is quite lovely, and I was tempted to run. I have a long day on Tuesday, though, and tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer, so I’m giving rest another day.

Just lay back & say ahhhh!

I did go to the Women’s Festival with a friend today. We both bought this pillow above. It’s a pressure-activated massage pillow. It takes either 2 D batteries (which were included) or you can plug it into a USB port. You can put it pretty much anywhere — we had it behind our backs — then the salesman had us put our feet on it. They’re on sale at the Website here, although we got a better deal at the expo.

My friend and I also each bought one of these wraparound  bracelets (not the same one). I got a good deal on Bamboo Sheets, which I really needed. Ours are getting threadbare and I’d actually been keeping an eye out for a good deal for a while now.

I am still unsure if I’ll do the April half, but this is the one. We booked a hotel today. Just in case. Rooms were definitely going quickly!

Are you more tired with changing over the clocks?

Do you run through illnesses?

Celebrating International Women’s Day today somehow?

  1. Oh dear, I hope you feel better soon! Giving the body a bit of rest is a good thing. Nice that you had Bandit and Lola as nurses, haha! 😊
I love those Brooks! So pretty! Now you’ll have to get something to match them…

  2. I hear that the Coastal Delaware race is really nice, It’s not too far from me but it has not fit into my schedule yet. If you end up stopping in DC let me know. I saw Robins this week as well. Spring is coming. I really hope that you are feeling better this week! Take care and thanks for linking up

    1. I stepped back a bit this week too. Didn’t seem like a good week to be pushing the limits of my immune system. 🙂 The festival sounds fun — nice bracelet!

      1. They had some really interesting products at the expo. I could’ve bought a lot more (there was a LOT of really nice jewelry!).

I definitely think you were wise to step back this week after all you’ve been through! My best guess is that the past few months & all those nights standing at the door for Lola (when it was cold) & the interrupted sleep just caught up with me. Good thing it didn’t catch up while Mr. Judy was away! That always sucks!

    2. Well, I’m not actually even signed up for the race yet. Still waiting on other things in my life. But i knew that if I wanted to stay somewhere decent, I needed to make a reservation.

In fact, the place we made it, from the time I’d looked at it early in the morning til the time we booked it — they sold out of a bunch of rooms — it was almost only the more expensive ones left.

I don’t anticipate a stop in DC, unfortunately, even though I’d love that. It would add a fair amount of time to the driving — not to mention having to drive anywhere near DC just sucks (we got sucked into that after ZOOMA Annapolis a few years back & it can only be worse now!

  3. Hope you feel better soon!

I have the Brooks in that tropical pattern. They don’t match anything I own and I don’t care. I never try to match my shoes to my running clothes. I don’t own enough shoes for that!

    1. I’m definitely feeling better. Going to try a run today (and the weather should be pretty frickin’ awesome!). The trick is to stay feeling better!

The Brooks pattern is super cute. 🙂 And even more importantly, they felt great to run in.

  4. Hope you feeling better. Good thing you have not signed up for races. That way you are not stressed and can rest when you need to.

You probably know already that I an NOT one to rest. So luckily I don’t sick or rundown (knock on wood). Running always makes me feel better…especially with friends.

I had a very tough week but managed to get out there yesterday and today we celebrated with another run.

I had thought about going to Siena but needed to clean, cook, shop, do laundry since I do not have time during the week or today.

I was going to say see you soon but mostly not since I have a half next weekend, a 10.5 course preview run the weekend after and mostly likely a race the weekend after that…

    hopefully before Freihofer’s.

    1. We may sign up for DE soon (there’s a deferral available). Not quite yet. I had planned to join you guys this saturday, but not running most of last week was the right thing for my body.

I don’t think you’re really that much of a shopper, so I can’t see you enjoying the Women’s expo that much. For me it’s almost literally in my backyard & we both enjoyed it.

      1. Jewelry is my weakness so I’m glad I didn’t go. Plus trying to de-clutter the house and get rid of stuff. I actually do enjoy shopping but don’t have much time these days.

      2. There was a lot of REALLY nice jewelry. I definitely wanted to buy more! There was also a cool thing for hair which I probably will buy at some point. Loving my massage pillow already.

      3. Glad I didn’t go then. I have more than I can wear. But I do wear bracelets and necklaces everyday. I even run with earrings. So maybe next year.

      4. And I never run with jewelry of any type. I find it annoying. Not even my rings. Can’t say that there will be a lot of jewelry next year — there was some junk, but there was also some really nice stuff. And jewelry cleaner.

Jewelry & mugs are what I always look for when I travel. It’s a nice way to remember a trip.

      5. There are certain pieces of jewelry that I can never take off (wedding rings, bracelet from honeymoon, earrings, etc). I don’t even feel them but again as we know everyone is different. I find headbands, toe socks, short skirts, tights/capris without a skirt over them annoying. Weird, I know.

      6. I had to laugh to my hubby when guy said that I’m not much of a shopper. He says to come look in my closets. As I put away yet another pain of new shoes.

  5. I was supposed to take a day off from all exercises on Wednesday and make the time to meditate for at least five minutes per my physical therapist; however, the flu had me crashing into bed instead. I’m happy to see your Meditation for Healing video – it’s just what the doctor (or in my case physical therapist) ordered.

    Hope you feel better quickly!

    1. The flu is really terrible. Those muscle aches! If you try my meditation I hope that it’s helpful.

I had flu-like symptoms, but extremely mild, and yes, I’m feeling better. I tend to get something like this in varying degrees in Spring. I was really working on cleaning up my nutrition (and other stuff) so I wouldn’t so that was kind of a bummer!

  6. Sorry you felt under the weather. I’m sure the rest was a wise choice. I do not push through illness. It tends to make me more sick. A massage pillow sounds divine! Sadly the Caveman did not like our bamboo sheets (I did), so I just bought new cotton ones. Not sure what his deal is.

    1. Yup, I am the same way with illness. Always tricky trying to figure out when I’m really recovered enough to start working out again though.

The pillow is great! Even though I have a massage seat (which I love) it’s just awkward to use so I rarely do. This is so easy. And you can use it on any body part — like your feet!

Mr. Judy never complained about the bamboo sheets, we’ve been using them a long time. Which is why I needed new ones. It think our sheets tend to get beat up because of the dogs, even though they’re little dogs.

At least he never said anything, LOL!

  7. It seems liker once I see that first robin, I see all of them from here on out LOL Currently, there’s a fat one guarding a nest in front of our office building, so there may be some babies forthcoming. Hope you’re feeling well! Knock wood, I haven’t really even had a runny nose this year…hoping that continues. Those Brooks are nice!

    1. I almost never get colds (and this isn’t one). In fact before going to the expo, my friend asked if I was coughing. Nope. And no congestion. Just fatigue, slight temp, muscle aches. Definitely feeling better. Still kind of tired, though.

    1. Actually, I don’t think that the elevated HR was a signal — it was a very small portion of the run and my resting heart rate has actually stayed pretty steady.

But I was tired that day — in fact, I decided before I started that I wasn’t going to do speed work, which I normally do since I’m only running 3 x week.

How tired I felt — yeah, that was a signal (in hindsight).

  8. Awww! Sweet Bandit! I love that he snuggled you when you weren’t feeling well ❤

I was tired on Sunday, but that's because we stayed up til after midnight watching movies with friends. It only takes me a day or two to get used to the darker mornings, especially now when I really don't have to get out of bed for early running, but then I'm back on track. Mr PugRunner is struggling, and little man seems to be back in the swing of things.

  9. Hope you feel better soon!

I’ve been tired because I always get insomnia for a few weeks when spring starts…the time change is an annoyance because now it’s dark when I leave the house, but I can’t blame it for the tiredness.

  10. I think you made the right decision to rest, especially with the virus going around. I also had a really low-key week last week. This week is slightly better but I still have a scratchy throat (more itchy, like allergies) – I am just not taking chances.

Right now I say NO to running while sick. We haven’t changed the clocks yet but I’m still feeling exhausted. We celebrated IWD at parkrun 🙂
