Life hasn’t changed too much: 3/16-22 WRD

Yet. After a lot of back and forth (I’d feel perfectly fine, then not great — never terrible, by any means), I do believe I turned the corner — finally! this week, and feel 100%. Or maybe 95%? My life hasn’t changed that much. Not yet, anyway. Of course there are changes, but in general, being an introvert and a homebody has served me well.

Running Update

Sorry for the graininess, didn’t want to disturb them too much

Wednesday
I figure as long as I’m able to get out for a run, I will try — there could come a day when we’re not supposed to at all, as I’ve read has happened in some places in Europe. We had walked the dogs at the trail by the river on Monday, so I made plans to come back and run there. It’s a very short, packed dirt with a little crushed gravel trail.

It was a beautiful day, perfect for running, and I enjoyed this run greatly. There were feathers on the trail that looked like eagle feathers. I’ve never seen an eagle there, but I’m sure they are probably around. A little further down, though, I almost literally ran into 4 chickens. This would not have been at all odd when I lived in Austin, but this is something I’ve never run into before here.

They definitely didn’t look wild. I’ve always wanted to have chickens . . . anyway, as I continued on pondering whether or not I should call animal control or grab one on the way back, by the time I got back to that point on the trail they’d vanished. You just never know what you’ll see when you #optoutside!

I may have been rained on, but I enjoyed this run

Friday
Today I had to try to outrun the rain. Spoiler alert: I didn’t. It was a warmer day, but my run was in the morning and it was only in the 50s with wind — and yes, light rain. It was still a good run!

Path angels at work!

Sunday
I headed up to a path I haven’t been to since last year. I guess I’d forgotten it was mostly uphill the way out . . . but of course that means mostly downhill on the way back. Path angels were busy with postive chalk art messages & I loved them!

Hidden in a tree

I didn’t notice this leprechaun in the opening of a tree, but some walkers did and I asked them what they were oohing & aahing over. Of course I waited until they had moved on to take my photo.

Palak Paneer &  Potato Cauliflower Fritters (Aloo something?)

Favorites of the week
You can still get delivery/take out from restaurants. I have always made about 90% of my own food — that includes way back when I worked outside of the home — but I like a break once in a while. This week it was Indian food, last week it was Chinese, I guess we’re doing a virtual world tour. I was surprised the Palak Paneer was in a cream sauce, I haven’t had it that way before. It was very good — no doubt pretty fattening too!

The bakery is open for takeout
Such yummy goodness

Part of the protein bar, a little bit of the scone, and some of my mom’s birthday cheesecake (remember, her birthday was the 10th!) just may have been lunch. Don’t judge. The brownie will probably get frozen. I don’t think I need all that and the cheesecake. Not for 7 miles.

I called my order in, and then I didn’t have to wait online. It was ready & waiting for me when I got there. Easy peasy.

I lured him with a protein bar I was eating, then didn’t share. Bad Mommy.
Finally found a relatively cheap quilt at Target. We’d been using an old sheet, and that was beginning to tear. So far Lola hasn’t decided to eat it. That tail, though!

Are you having to learn new skills now?

Are you working from home?

How are you destressing?

Coming up on Tuesday: I’m gathering up some of the many low cost and free resources that are being offered. Seriously, there are just so many things you can do to keep fit at home!

  1. I am having to limit what I’m seeing about people’s restrictions, having dragged myself out of that last massive anxiety trough but not completely on the stable level yet. I will miss you for a bit but will come back. Stay well and take care x

  2. I had to laugh at your experience with the chickens LOL On Friday’s after-work run, I had a couple cross my path (the road I was on), and I have no idea where they came from. I almost got out my phone to get a pic, but I was already exhausted from the wind, and didn’t want to further my time out there.

    1. Now that is too bizarre that we both ran into chickens on the same day!

Austin had a large Hispanic population, and it’s not unusual for Hispanics to keep chickens as pets — or to find them roaming the neighborhood. Definitely nothing I’ve ever seen here before, though!

  3. Thank you for uploading that meditation for anxiety. I will need to listen to that before heading into next week. I was very anxious earlier in the week but it got better as the days went on because I wasn’t listening to the news 24/7

  4. Yup lots of changes. Totally weird not getting dressed up and wearing makeup each morning. I am tempted to work in my running clothes. And no adult conversation besides my hubby.

    And I am an introvert!!

But I miss my friends – their support and me supporting them.

    But this will end.

I am trying to stay active and run in places that I normally don’t run in.

Good news about Leah’s. I almost ran there today but it’s not very scenic. Without people, I need scenery.

I’m doing ALL my half marathons virtually so I still will be training each month. And that’s a good thing.

    1. No virtual races for me. Just running. And all the other stuff I always do.

I chose Zim Smith because of the snow we’re getting today. And also who knows how long they’ll be open? I still worry a bit about takeout/delivery but sometimes you just have to have faith.

      1. Most of the nearby take-outs have to close as do the ice cream shops. Sigh.

I haven’t given up on the one half a month goal. Yet.

  5. I saw a duck just waddling down the sidewalk this morning as I went for my run. It made me giggle! I saw someone ranting today about being ordered to stay at home. Said something about taking away our rights. Really people?? These are the people I worry about getting near. Overall though I am impressed with how everyone is handling it. Fingers crossed it pays off fast!

    1. Some people definitely don’t seem to get the whole social distancing thing. And sometimes it was hard on the path, since it’s narrow. I tried my best to get on the grass to go around people but one of the good things is that more people are actually getting outside (ironic).

  6. My Colorado son keeps chickens – 12 of them. It’s pretty cool but I wouldn’t want to be tied down with the care of chickens. The eggs are amazing, though. So much better than grocery store eggs!

I did run in the rain on Friday. I have to admit that if I wasn’t running with Bill, I probably would have bailed, though. We keep each other accountable. One benefit of running with a spouse.

Happy belated birthday to your mom. Her cheesecake looks amazing! 🙂

  7. Aw, chickens! We see them all over the place but we live in farm country, so it’s not unusual.

We have been doing all our cooking at home. We really haven’t left the house other than a couple of trips to the grocery store. I’ve been hermiting for quite some time, so I’m used to it but Mr PugRunner and little man are struggling. They just want to be out and about and doing their things.

    1. I’ve gone places to run and to the grocery store — and even that I’m limiting more than normal.

Chickens in the neighborhood was normal in Austin, but that wasn’t normal at all up here!

  8. I don’t understand the restrictions on outdoor exercise — as long as you are staying apart. Luckily so far I haven’t heard of any US localities doing that. The one I saw for Dallas today expressly said outdoor exercise was an ESSENTIAL activity that could continue. That said, our city close playgrounds this weekend because too many people were using them at once. My husband is kind of freaked out, so I’m not sure he’d be comfortable with take-out. Maybe he’ll get sick enough of my cooking to risk it! 😉

    1. We kind of debated the takeout. It’s not an easy decision, really, wanting to support small businesses and wanting to protect ourselves at the same time. 😦

There wasn’t enough social distancing going on at the path, I must say, I saw a lot of runners bunched up together (often younger runners).

But as I keep saying, and I know you’ll appreciate this, sometimes you just have to have faith.

  9. Path Angels! What a sweet idea! I love seeing all the goodness come out in people during this virus drama.
And isn’t it great that we can still run?!
    Have a great week, Judy!

  10. Glad you are feeling better. Fun to run across the chickens! The neighbors behind us used to have a couple, despite HOA rules (I don’t think they get enforced much). I’m a homebody too, apart from work, but it will be strange doing that from home indefinitely.

  11. How crazy to come across random chickens. We have a community chicken coop, but they’re never out loose. Way too many coyotes for that. Personally my world stays pretty much the same, except I’m not taxiing the kiddo anywhere. Having restrictions though does make me extra grateful for what I CAN do.

    1. I’m sure it’s hard on the kids, which seems so odd because they already spend so much time on social media.

I’ve no idea where those chickens came from. We do have some coyotes (not a lot), and hawks & eagles. They looked really well fed!

  12. It’s good to hear that you’re feeling better and getting some runs in! Nice to see the messages from the path angels.

Since I usually work from home I don’t feel as impacted by the changes as some others. The biggest difference really is having the kids around and no one’s asking me to drive them anywhere. LOL!

      1. I do tend to grow my hair out as it gets warmer (not that it’s warmer here yet, obviously). But without trims it gets pretty scary looking. I let it go a long time this fall when everything was going on with my parents, so I’ll survive looking scary. 🙂 Just hope my hairdresser is able to come back!

  13. My new skill is going to be learning to teach my balance and stretching class on Facebook Live. I’m sure I’ll be able to figure out the setting it up part, but I’m not thrilled to be doing the video. I’m very self conscious – you make it look so easy on your YouTube videos. What’s your secret?

We used to hear a rooster crow in the early mornings while on our Saturday morning runs, but I’ve never seen chickens crossing the path in front of me, even when I’m on my country road runs when visiting my mom. 🙂

One of my friends was texting with me and said how hard this staying at home is for her. I told her that years of living out in the middle of nowhere as a child and never having play dates had prepared me just for this. 😉

    Stay safe, Judy!

    1. OMG, thank you for the biggest belly laugh I’ve had in the longest time! I am so self conscious and I swear video fights me every time! It is not at all easy.

You’ll notice I am not doing FB Live, although I may. I need to read up on it some myself first.

I never had any desire to be on camera, and I don’t think it’s my strong point at all (in fact, I complimented Pahla Bowers about how easy & natural she makes it look!).

But I really do have a strong desire to teach yoga, meditation, and share stuff. So I just suck it up & do it & hope some day it gets better . . . . after about 4 months it doesn’t seem to be any better!

Yes, I have friends who are definitely struggling with the loss of their social contacts too.
