Making God Laugh: 4/27 – 5/3 WRD

You know the old saying, man plans, God laughs. I had plans for this week. Nothing earth shattering, basically trying to take advantage of the handful of nice days we had.

Joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and sharing how God laughed at my plans.

Basically, my body told me it needed more recovery days this week. So much for my plans to run on the nice days. I only ran twice, so I missed out on some nice weather, but I did get to run Saturday, which was basically perfect running weather.

Running Update

Flowers brighten even gloomy days

Monday
Cloudy, windy, chilly. Back to what passes for Spring in the Northeast. Got out for 4 miles & managed to stay dry. Gotta take your wins where you can find them.

This was Yoga on the deck earlier in the week — I may not have run, but I love my deck Yoga sessions! Hoping for one today, too

Saturday
Picture perfect running weather. It would have been a great day for a race! I chose the hillier route since I wasn’t running as long. Yes, the June half is officially cancelled. I had to get off & wait for some wrong siders, but I guess the rest did me good. The pace wasn’t bad.

So not a whole lot of movement this week, but today I’m feeling back to normal so it’s what I needed.

A rainbow in my backyard every day

Favorites of the week
Mr. Judy surprised me with the rainbow wind chimes above. Yes, he reads the blog sometimes.

You can never have too many digital options!

He also managed to revive his old laptop (he recently got a new one). We share our desktop; there’s a lot I can do on my Ipad, but not everything. Not that I can do everything on the laptop, either, but I can do some things I can’t on the Ipad. I spent some time blogging outside yesterday afternoon.

Mr. Judy was my hero this week — he also worked his magic to get me a good deal on  AirPods 2nd Generation. I may look dorky, but it should improve my audio (while I continue the hunt for a wireless microphone at a decent price). I’ll be testing them out on a FB Live soon!

Do you have a YouTube Channel? I’ll subscribe to yours if you subscribe to mine. 🙂

What do you do to make treadmill runs more fun (if you run on them)?

A long shot, but does anyone have reasonably priced but good quality wireless microphone recommendations?

Coming up on Tuesday: Your race is cancelled. The weather’s no good or you have young kids to keep an eye on. How will you entertain yourself on your treadmill? Friday I’ll be writing a love letter to Skirt Sports; if you haven’t heard, there’s a good chance they’re going out of business if they can’t find a buyer. Skirts (and so much more) are selling out, so check out the sale here.

  1. I was just admiring your sunny deck this morning when I did one of your yoga videos!
    Love the rainbow chimes! 😄
I think playing around with the different paces is what I would do on a treadmill. Kind of like interval training.

  2. I absolutely love the rainbow wind chimes – so colorful!
I don’t have a Youtube channel, but I will subscribe to yours 🙂

The weather this weekend has been beautiful! I have plans to sit out on my deck with book later on this afternoon.

    1. We had wind chimes that were basically like one chime, so they rarely chimed. I did Yoga on the deck & it was nice to listen to them chiming below, since it’s windy today.

I hope you enjoyed your book! I also sat outside on a lounge chair for a while blogging. It’s going to be a while before I can do that again, but I swear it saved my sanity!

  3. Lovely wind chimes, so pretty. I didn’t run much last week, much less than I have been. It got away from me a few times as something happened to make me not go out first thing a couple of times. I do feel a bit better today though even after two mid-length runs in two days so fingers crossed. Lovely to see you on the Zoom last night.

    1. I am not one that usually really needs to push for my sanity. I was beyond a fatigued a few days this week, but felt a lot better this weekend. Hopefully that’s it with that!

  4. Definitely kind of sad to see that Skirt Sports will be going out of business. I was really happy to have had the ambassador experience at the beginning and even made it out to one of the retreats. Love the wind chimes. Not sure if my hubs has ever read my blog 🙂

  5. I love your new windchime! I am a sucker for them but am doing my best to not buy more. I am sad about SS. My very first skirts were from them 15 years ago. I believe it was the first year they were in business. Sadly I donated them awhile ago. You are the second person this week who is looking for a wireless mic recommendation. I’ll let you know if I hear of one.

    1. We had an old windchime but it had pretty much disintegrated. It was really nice because it was a surprise.

Well, I only started running about 11 years ago — and it took a while before I found skirt. I am definitely so sad that there won’t be new skirts (and leggings, and tops, etc) to try! Especially as one of my fav pair of leggings actually just tore — first one that has ever done that. I almost bought a second pair many times, and now I’m really kicking myself for not doing it. 😦

  6. You know I love my deck yoga! As soon as it gets warm out, I bring the mat outside and Cocoa hangs with me. It’s just the funniest thing.

That is such a shame about Skirt Sports. I have a few of their skirts too. They seem so popular, so I am a bit surprised by all this.

    1. It was like Bandit knew I was going out on the deck for yoga even before I started to gather up my stuff — he kept literally dogging my steps, which isn’t like him. It was great!

Mostly with SkirtSports is was about Nicole wanting to move on, and obviously now is not the right time to try to find a buyer (which she is doing). I understand, I’ve had my own business — almost the same amount of time — it’s hard work — and she always made it seem like she was having a great time, but I know that it wasn’t always easy.

  7. The wind chimes are awesome! My hubby does read my blog (most of the time LOL), so I have to kind of sensor what I blog about…sometimes. I do a lot of my HIIT workouts on my side patio in the summer. It’s on the north side of our house, so there’s not much for sunshine there in the early hours. I should head over and check out the SS site….

    1. I do hear you on being careful about what you say on the blog. 🙂

Getting outside exercise — it’s the best! I didn’t think ‘d avoid the mill this week. Of course it helped that there were only 2 runs, LOL!

  8. I am way out of the loop with Skirt Sports and I thought they were doing well so the whole going out of business thing just surprises me. In fact, I profiled Nicole in my Sports Entrepreneurship class for my Master’s Certificate. I really didn’t see it coming. So unfortunate!

I love those wind chimes! So pretty!

My hubby reads my blog sometimes, too. And sometimes, he even comments! lol

    1. My husband has never actually commented. But he does read it.

From what has been shared with us, it wasn’t the pandemic that caused Skirt Sports to be closing it doors — although in a way it is. Nicole was ready to move on. She’s been trying to find a buyer, but of course now is not a great time for that.

  9. Love the rainbow chimes.

My husband rarely reads my blog! Occasionally I’ll ask him to proof read a race recap especially since he’s usually part of the same races, just to see if he thinks I missed anything. But he says he doesn’t need to read the blog since he’s living it with me 🙂

Bummer about your Skirt Sports…so many businesses aren’t going to make it. Several of my favorite Minneapolis restaurants have closed for good the past week. So sad.

    1. I haven’t heard of restaurant closures here. I’m sure some have, but for the most part, I don’t read news & I only watch a little. I am sure many small businesses will close. It’s such a shame.

  10. Hooray for Lloyd saving the day. Love the chimes.

Yesterday and today were perfect. Need to bottle them. I’ve spent a lot of time pulling weeds. I want to make a big perennial garden. As you can tell I LOVE flowers.

Also did some running on the bike trail and walking on some new trails. No problems social distancing.

      1. ok my weather app says no rain and it is now raining! grr.

It is always cold and rainy on Mother’s Day weekend. I am sure that it will be this year too.

And I agree…warm rain and no wind please.

      2. I ran this morning, when it was still nice (and walked the dogs). The app had already said it was going to get super windy later in the day & temps would drop — sorry.

But yes, Lloyd got caught in some rain while he was trying to cut the lawn.

Well, it’s almost always cold & snowy on my birthday. 🙂 But I can remember a few February thaws, too.

      3. But my birthday is in May lol.

I went out later and had to add a beanie gloves and jacket. I sweat in the am.

      4. karma. I
I don’t wear them often because they don’t seem to match anything and not a fan of the skirt. They must have been bought with BC points. I have points now but hate to pay the shipping and I have enough clothes for the rest of my running life (even if I run until I’m 100)

  11. I love the wind chimes – and the flowers. It’s the little things. Truly.
I’m going to miss Skirt. I count you & Darlene as here since i knew you before I was into Skirt, but i met so many great people.
So good to see you yesterday.

    1. All the ambassadors are going to miss Skirt! Having had my own business though — I get it, too. I folded up my business at about the same point. Never regretted that. But I think Skirt withdrawal will be a thing. And one of my fav leggings recently tore — they’re the only ones that has ever happened to! Kicking myself for not buying a second pair the many times I thought about it ( I actual only have 2 pairs — now — of the triple pocket leggings). Well, I’ll be shopping Skirt on Amazon, no doubt, but my guess is prices are going to go up, not down. #firstworldproblems, for sure.

  12. Our weather has been cooler and wetter than usual, and this week will be more of the same. At least we had a nice Saturday. I bought a lot on the Skirt Sports site after our first Zoom call, when you mentioned they might not be around. I’m not sure there’s anything else left in my size!

    1. Yeah, sizes are going quickly! I had put a bunch of stuff in my cart & left it overnight the first night. I knew I had to prune the cart. It got pruned for me!

We had a great weekend. And hey, at least I really do think we’ve seen the last of the snow til fall!

  13. We had some really bad weather and some really good weather this week. Glad you were able to enjoy the nice weather on Saturday! Thats great that you were able to get the old laptop up and running and that you now that a nice pair of airpods!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Well, the husband was totally responsible for reviving the laptop.

I remember when airpods first came out, I really wanted them! But I didn’t need them & I couldn’t justify the cost — plus I already ad some Trekz.

But now Trekz won’t work for me for recording Yoga videos, and what I was using wasn’t really working either. I still actually use my Trekz a lot just for watching stuff.

I was really happy to still enjoy some really nice weather last week despite the extra rest I ended up taking!

  14. Your rainbow wind chimes are gorgeous! And I love your deck yoga. So peaceful and relaxing.

I’m glad the laptop was revived! That’s a relief.

I have no idea on tech equipment. I hope you find something that works!

  15. My husband does read my blog! And corrects me when I have errors (oops). I was thinking AirPods were a good choice because I see everyone using them. No? I’m surprised how well my AfterShokz headphones work when I talk on my phone. They sounds great and no one ever asks if I can “pick up the phone”.

  16. I love your new wind chimes! My husband reads my blog about 50% of the time and helps me out with technical things when I can’t figure them out on my own so I call him my IT guy. 😉

I’m already subscribed to your YouTube channel! Mine is Deb Runs. It’s a hodge-podge of trail runs and a couple of videos from our son and daughter-in-law’s wedding reception. I should put a few home workouts on there.

  17. Oh, I love your new wind chimes! It’s nice that your husband reads your blog…mine use to read it all the time in the beginning, but all these years later, not so much LOL!

Deck workouts are so nice – I’m hoping Mother Nature will cooperate a bit more and serve up some nicer weather on a more consistent basis.

  18. sometimes you just need rest Judy. The last few years I have learned that there is absolutely nothing wrong with rest and it’s ok to take it.

wish we had a deck! I wish we had a balcony we could actually sit on! I’m trying to convince Ron that we need to move and we need a backyard… but he doesn’t want to mow the lawn! (I will mow the lawn but he doesn’t believe me for some reason!).

loving the wind chimes! Three cheers for Mr. Judy!

    1. We’ve been lucky to always have a deck, even when we lived in an apartment in TX . Although that was enclosed, and it was our laundry room! But there was also a pool there, & I definitely used it!

I have never mowed a lawn in my life. I hope I never have to!

  20. I wished I had a treadmill. I am wondering if my landlord will let me have one in the basement. The ceiling is kind of low so not sure if it will work out anyway. When I would run on the treadmill at the gym, I would watch shows on Netflix. I love the windchime!! So pretty and colorful! I did see the message about SkirtSports. I don’t own any of their gear but I have read about them from other bloggers.
