What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger: Runfessions May 2020

bstronger2

I know people hate to say what we have is the new normal, but I think that’s the truth until a vaccine or treatment is found. You wouldn’t think I’d have much to runfess considering I am not racing, and not running a lot either. Coming clean always feels good, though, doesn’t it? Even if one of my runfessions is about my complete and utter lack of the cleaning gene.

I runfess . . .
I am still cleaning more than I used to — not hard to do! — but less than I was in April. We seem to have survived. Knock on wood.

Thumbs up for the Yoga platform & nice weather

I runfess . . .
Part of the reason I have been cleaning less is because we finally got nice weather, and between the tablet, the laptop, and the Yoga platform, I’m spending a lot of time outdoors. Who wants to be stuck inside — doing anything? — much less cleaning.

I runfess . . .
I didn’t really know how prophetic my word for 2020 would be (strong, which you can read about here). I thought it was because of my parents . . . well, we all know why we need to be strong now! In addition to all that, though, I’m taking advantage of no races to run less and try to do more strength training. Literally getting strong — or so I hope.

I runfess . . .
Ok, it’s not a runfession, but yes, my thoughts have already turned to Thanksgiving. I was going to host it again this year, with my father gone. I joked to Lloyd at one point, when we were considering eating the turkey en croute from TJs in our freezer, that that might be our Thanksgiving dinner.

I don’t think that’s a joke anymore. I can’t see my family, and especially my mother, coming here for Thanksgiving. At the moment if my mom leaves for anything other than a doctor’s appointment, she would have to self quarantine for 2 weeks. My sister is also planning to go back to work at Old Navy, so lots of exposure.

I’m trying to hunt down where bathrooms might be so we can make a trip out to see her soon. Yes, there are apps for that — except I haven’t found any that are really terribly useful.

I knew I bought it, and have the photo to prove it. What I don’t know is where it’s hiding!

I runfess . . .
In the perennial problem of I know I have it, it’s big, but where the heck is it, I have had a pair of capris go missing. I know I wore them last year, I have the photos. I’m mostly done with moving the Fall/Winter clothes out and the Spring/Summer clothes in, and yet — it’s hiding. I guess it’s a good thing that we’re now past capri season.

  1. Yay to your yoga platform and cleaning less!
Have you used the platform yet with your student?
I didn’t know what a turkey en croute was – thanks to you and google I learnt something today.
The capris will turn up in the most unlikely place at the most unexpected moment. It’s always nice to be surprised! 😉

  2. Ha ha. I have no clue what my word us this year.

You’ll have read my post to see what I lost.

Yes except when I have teach online I’m outside. Except I need to buy stick in insect repellent since it fly mosquito and tick season.

Being light out so long is also one of the reason I order to Zoom at 8 pm. I would wait even later if others agreed. It’s so nice outdoors in the summer in the evening.

Good thing you didn’t like my friends have to drive back from Florida. I mean about not using public bathrooms.

Anyway at least things are opening up but it won’t be the same for a very long time.

    1. I’ve tried Zooming with both the laptop and the tablet and neither seems to work outside for me. I’m guessing it’s our router.

OTOH, I can get YT & other internet based apps on my Yoga platform, and that’s way in the back of our yard.

      1. makes sense. Zoom is audio and video going both ways. The other is just one way. I haven’t tried Zoom outside yet because if it doesn’t work,it’s a pain to plug everything back in upstairs.

  3. Yes, now that outdoors is an enjoyable option, I’m opting for it over cleaning for sure. Just the other day I could not for the life of me find cinnamon sticks in the pantry, even though I know I’d seen them the day before. It makes me nuts! My MIL is already talking about how it’s “her” year to have Thanksgiving. Ugh.

    1. It drives me insane when I know I just saw something. At least the capris I haven’t worn since last fall, truth be told I didn’t even remember actually wearing them until I saw that photo!

  4. My parents are at home only 20 m from me but they are not letting us in lol. We have visited them outside a few times. I talk to them everyday but I need to make more of an effort to see them more. WE used to meet for coffee and lunches but that won’t happen for a long time. I am over the cleaning!

    1. I do talk to my mom most every day. But she’s also all alone now. My sister lives much closer, but she’s going to be going back to work.

Anyway, there’s a service area about 30 minutes from here. Then it’s still like 90 minutes to her place (and of course 90 in back til we can use it again) but hopefully that’ll work.

  5. Funny how this week you and Darlene both had a missing item but you have pictures on your blog to prove when you had it last! I went 5 days looking for a pair of sandals I knew I had. Here, I ended up putting them on the back deck to dry after rinsing them off. Funny thing was that I forgot about them and they end up out there in the rain for a few days!
YES, YES, YES,,, I want to be outside ALL the time. I was at the park this morning for a run and just wanted to stay a few more hours but knew i had to get back and tend to the dogs! -M

    1. I know, the dogs do make it difficult someitmes which non dog “parents” don’t get. But of course when I go out usually my husband is home & visa versa, so it’s actually easier right now.

  6. I’ve been cleaning a lot more too. I think my next step will be to organize some rooms in the house. I feel like those are tiny projects that I can do throughout the summer. I would say that I’m getting outside more but it’s been so darn humid here this week that I’ve stayed indoors, except for afternoon walks.

    1. I’ve been working on decluttering/organizing all year — I swear you can’t tell but I have made progress. Part of the problem is nowhere to donate stuff now.

I get out early with the dogs & it’s so nice & shaded on my yoga platform that I can spend a lot of time there. If only I had a pool!

  7. Cleaning is so low on my list of things to do right now! I feel like whenever I have some spare time I’m like…should I relax, nap, or clean? And cleaning usually loses out. Those moments don’t happen often these days!

  8. I am really enjoying your yin yoga, Judy. I haven’t seen the immune-system video yet. I will have to check it out.

I am outside a lot these days too. The weather has been so perfect, and it’s so nice to be outside on our deck.

Here’s hoping those capris turn up sometime soon. they have got to be somewhere, right?

    1. Yup, I know those capris are somewhere. Just baffling because I’ve spent so much time arranging stuff.

Glad you’re enjoying the yin! I did get a little off track at the end of the newest video, gotta admit. I’ve watched enough pros video to know it happens & try to just let it go! Hoping my next video will be filmed on the platform! Such a short season for us to be outside up here, usually.

  9. When we moved from Denver to Virginia, a brand new skirt and top came up missing. I looked everywhere and just couldn’t find them. About twenty years later, and two moves later, my husband opened up a box labeled desk chair that we’d never opened because it was an old chair we didn’t need. You guessed it, the packers had tossed my new outfit into the box with the chair – there was nothing else in there, just the three items. Mystery solved, but by then the outfit was completely out of style.

I’m loving being outside whenever I can.

    1. That is bizarre about your outfit — and sad that it was out of date by the time you found it!

After several days of heat & humidity, today is again lovely. It’s our reward for enduring Winter (and sometimes Summers can be hot & humid here, too — the past couple of weeks has really been a gift!).

  10. I am so not a fan of cleaning! But since we are now empty nesters (again) and my cleaning lady isn’t coming, I think I’m on my own here.

Yesterday, I pulled out a pair of socks for my workout and who knows where I put them. I can’t find them!!!

  11. I have several “lost” items that are in hiding at the moment. I don’t know if I donated them (and forgot) or put them in a donation box (which I cannot find) or if they’re just buried. I’ve been transitioning my workout clothes to the closet in our son’s “old” bedroom, so hopefully these missing things will turn up.

  12. Working from home has made me more relaxed in the morning – like taking time to check on/water my flowers, etc. I try to start working by 8, but if it’s not until 8:30, it’s no big deal. I can’t even think of the holidays, but imagine I’d have my son, the woman who will be his wife by then (!!!) and my mom over, as usual.
