Ultimate-Coffee-Date-1-300x300

Pull up a chair and mug with Coco and Deborah and me for the ultimate coffee tea date: I’m sharing how I finally used the dogs picking up habits (usually the bad ones) to my advantage this month.

Better together? Or not?????

I’d tell you Lola occasionally has gagging/coughing attacks. They’re generally gone within 24 hours. Usually when I notice her having issues, I give her something for allergies, and it seems to help. I forgot to do that with her most recent episode, and paid the price with her waking us up at midnight coughing.

I also have cough medicine for her. Unfortunately she hates it. Even mixed with a little honey. Although apparently mixed with a little tuna works.

The funny part is we were trying to give her some before bed the next day. Bandit was there, tail going. So what the heck, I thought, I’ll give him a little, and sure enough, he liked it. The really funny part was after seeing Bandit eat it, Lola deigned to lick some without me having to try and smear it on her mouth.

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you sometimes my Garmin just loses its mind. I don’t know why. Sometimes it’s a bogus heart rate reading. Other times, like last week, it tells me that I’ve climbed 50 flights of stairs. Before noon. Twice! I can assure you I didn’t. My run was a little hilly, but nothing out of the ordinary. I swear it’s possessed some days!

Sunshine & no clouds — not what I want to see on a Summer run!

If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you in the Winter I long for sun. In the Summer, I pray for clouds! I can’t tell you how good cloud cover feels when it’s hot and humid outside — and how good sun feels on a very cold day.

I’d tell you thankfully our backyard isn’t too buggy, but I got some bites when I visited with my friend last week. On my hip. An area that’s sure to rub.

Then I got a brilliant idea: why not put my anti chafing gel on it? It definitely does seem to help. I swear I only seem to get bites in places that are sure to rub.

Do your furkids imitate each other?

Figured out a new running hack lately (or life hack, I guess!)?

Do you care about sunshine & cloud cover?

  1. Haven’t seen blues skies in at least 7 days. Rain at some point everyday. But so humid. Luckily I seem to get it all done without getting wet. Just sweat.

Prefer sun. For the flowers and vitamin D.

I have gone through so much bug spray this summer. I rarely leave the house without it. So far so good regarding bites.

  2. Like you I do crave the sun in the winter time. I agree, these days I yearn for a little cloud cover when I am out. Today we are hitting 100 degrees and have an outdoor dinner with my parents. Ugh hope we all don’t melt! Thanks for linking up today

    1. I hope you enjoyed your dinner with your parents! I am not even allowed to bring food to eat (because then you’re not masked). I had to eat my lunch in my car when I visited my mom.

  3. Ha! I had to laugh when I read about longing for the sun in the winter and clouds in the summer. We have been having some scorchers lately. It’s supposed to be close to 100 degrees here today. It’s a rest day for me but I definitely have been doing some shade running lately. I will cross the street to run in the shade.

Thanks for sharing the tip about the chafing gel for bug bites. I am going to try that!

    1. It doesn’t prevent them itching, but it can help them not get so irritated & itchy. At least it worked for me! And because what I use dries pretty quickly, it doesn’t just rub off.

    1. I am a bug magnet, too, but our backyard isn’t too buggy, and I don’t usually get them on the run (they don’t like wind, even though I’m slow, I guess it’s still windy enough).

  4. Maybe you need to change your route on Sunny days. I run on a trail through the woods and that keeps it a bit cooler because of all the trees!

This week Willlow needed meds and I gave them to her with peanutbutter so of course Sybie wanted some too. I gave her peanutbutter ( but no meds).

  5. Blue skies forever here! What the heck? Where do I even live anymore? I looked at the forecast for the next 3 WEEKS and it’s going to be 90 and sunny every day. I love it, I do, but not for running. Like you, I’m pretty much never satisfied, lol. The trails sure make a difference, tho.

  6. Like Wendy said, nothing but blue skies here every single day. It’s crazy. This is definitely going on the books as a hot summer. Not complaining at all. But I’m very grateful I’m not training for anything.

  7. Good for Bandit for showing Lola how to take her medicine like a good doggie! 😀

I’m very lucky in that if I don’t run or walk early in the morning before the sun gets too hot, the corner of our lot backs up to 28-miles of paved neighborhood trails, mostly shaded.

    Have a great holiday weekend!

    1. Oh, you are SO lucky to have trails so close. The closest trails to me are about 15 minutes away, but I don’t really like those that much. Most of the others are at least 20-30 min away.

Hope you enjoyed the 4th, Debbie!

  8. My Garmin does that too!
I threw my clothes in the washing machine yesterday and my heart rate was at 133! And then it sank down to 33.
    Seriously? 😉
Have a good 4 July, Judy!

  9. Yes, our cats copy each other! Which is handy as they’re working out how to drink from a tap at the moment (this is fine, they’ve been funny about drinking tap or filtered water from a bowl for months, they have water mixed with their dry food but don’t like it much and this is water on demand, which is great (we leave the taps dripping: they don’t as yet know how to turn them on …).

Nice to see blue skies but too hot indeed!

    1. The shade was awesome for my run yesterday. Today was a beautiful morning, but no clouds — I know it probably would have been a more difficult run today (even though it seemed like a good day for it).

  10. I want it to be overcast in the morning and sunny in the afternoon. Is that too much to ask? Lol.
Fortunately we don’t have a lot of bugs here…having said that, when I got home from work the other night I had several bites on both forearms. I’m assuming mosquitos got me because they LOVE me and I was working outside in our triage tent in the heat, but weird that I didn’t notice them until I got home.

    1. We actually do get some overcast mornings & sunny afternoons! But not always.

Mosquitoes love me, too, but thankfully we don’t usually get too many of them in my backyard. And it’s definitely nothing like when I lived in TX — there I could barely set foot outside in the summer (the heat, humidity, and fire ants had something to do with that, too).

  11. Here in Florida, cloud cover is pretty vital. It’s easy to bake, even early in the morning.

The pugs are all little copy cats. They want the same EVERYTHING. Thank goodness they’re cute.

    1. Yes, Lola comes over when we give Bandit cucumbers or baby carrots. She used to like baby carrots, but even in tiny pieces, she just can’t chew them (or doesn’t want to work that hard for a carrot, LOL). And she doesn’t like cucumber at all!
