If we were enjoying tea/coffee . . .
I’d tell you I’m happy that the two stroller gals I often see on the sidewalk can get together, but at the same time, they take up the entire sidewalk. Sometimes more than the entire sidewalk as one will angle her stroller towards the street as they’re chatting and wrapping up their stroll.

Then there was the guy (same sidewalk) walking a Doberman. I have absolutely nothing against Dobermans — any dog, really — it’s all about the training — and this dog clearly had none. His owner’s “he won’t bother you” was so far from the truth as the dog was lunging toward me.

Then recently one of our neighbors was walking her small dog on a flexi leash (the ones that can extend — I hate those things!). The owner was engrossed in her phone. The dog had almost tripped me up before the owner noticed that she’d extended the leash like 6 feet and gotten underfoot. At least she was extremely apologetic.

I’d tell we’ve been enjoying the West Wing again on Netflix, and I had pretty much forgotten the long list of celebrities who made guest appearances on it:

  • Laura Dern
  • Christain Slater
  • Mark Harmon
  • Marlee Maitlin
  • Mary Louise Parker
  • Matthew Modine

And many more. You can always tell a popular show by the quality of its guest stars!

I’d tell you I saw a recommendation for the Almond Cow (you can buy it here — no affiliation!), which led me down the rabbit hole of looking at nut milk makers. I was leaning towards asking for one for our anniversary, even though we’re planning to buy a toaster oven/air fryer.

I like to do my due diligence, though. As I was looking at cheaper models, and reading reviews, I came across one that said that she thought making it in her Vitamix actually made a creamier almond milk. I guess I’m finally going to try to make nut milk in my Vitamix!

. . . remember those black eyed susans I was worried about on our last coffee/tea date? Oh, the rabbits took care of that problem. Well, Mr. Judy thinks it was the rabbits. He moved one of the plants, which seems to be hanging on, but the other two were completely taken out.

He did research that says rabbits love black eyed susans. My research had the same results as my research on whether or not they were toxic to dogs: some places said rabbits will eat them, others said rabbits won’t. All I know is something ate them.

Have any dog friendly garden flowers you love (that rabbits don’t eat)?

Do you ever rewatch older shows? We actually don’t much (well, Mr. Judy does all the time), but we had come to an impasse on what to watch. I’m really enjoying being able to watch the West Wing without having to wait a week (or weeks) between episodes).

Ever have a “run-in” with a neighborhood dog?

  1. As I have mentioned before not a TV watcher. Prefer to walk and read in the evenings. Once November rolls around I’ll check out Netflix since I haven’t watched since Schitts Creek ended.

    No weird neighborhood experiences. Mostly run on the bike paths.

    The microwave is my only modern cooking device. Lol. Also don’t spend a lot of time in the kitchen. Work run work walk work. Such is life.

    So excited to unplug from my computer for 4 days even if it is raining.

  2. I feel your pain about the dogs you encounter. Once, I was bitten by a dog who was on a leash during a run. The leash was held by a little girl who was with her family. The dog was too big for her to control. I never had any warning – no barks, growls, nothing – he waited until I was past, then bit my thigh. The bite broke the skin, gave me a big bruise, and tore my shorts. Now I am very leery of dogs, even if they are on a leash and their owners say “He won’t bite”.

    1. I’ve heard similar stories from friends who are runners. 😦 I’ve been lucky so far.

      I have had some run-ins with off leash dogs that were being walked by kids who clearly were either too young or too small to handle the dog — it’s another pet peeve for me.

      1. I will do a post at some point, but I made my first batch. As usual, I wondered why I waited so long to try it!

        Having a high speed blender makes a really big difference. Plus you need either cheesecloth or a nutmilk bag — luckily I had cheese cloth, but I’m going to get a nutmilk bag.

        Supposedly it’s less expensive, although nuts are expensive. And almonds, unfortunately, use a lot of water to grow. 😦 It’s always something right?

  4. There are so many complaints about sidewalk / trail “hogs” now that more people are out using them. I try to dip into the street if I encounter someone with Scooby, but have to watch for traffic!

    Love the black-eyed susans.

    1. That particular road is a fairly major one with a small shoulder — but that is what I do, go onto the shoulder. And unfortunately there I’m not running facing traffic (if I’m on the way back).

  5. Nope, there’s been no rewatching of anything here. I really loathe when people are so engrossed in their phone that they let their dog extend across the entire path or even street. It’s inexcusable. I’d have guessed deer ate those flowers but what do I know.

  7. It’s always tricky sharing the sidewalk and while I usually move onto the street when I pass people, its much harder to do so with a stroller. I’ve always gotten annoyed when people take up the entire sidewalk or running path.

    1. I do appreciate that life as a mom of young ones is hard. I don’t mind (too much) having to go around them when they’re moving, but it is really annoying when they plant themselves to chat and completely take up the narrow sidewalk!

  8. I had a dog come after me, ONCE, in a sketchy neighborhood. He was barking like crazy, and the owner, casually sitting on the porch, reassured me Fido “wouldn’t hurt me.” Right. I think the guy finally had to come after the dog (not on a leash, big surprise). Needless to say, I never ventured down that road again. Currently, the hubs and I are totally engrossed in How to Get Away With Murder (Netflix, but I think it’s still on ABC). We’re in the 5th season, and I’m already wanting to rewatch when we finish to refresh my memory (lots of flashbacks and flash-aheads that will make more sense after the fact).

    1. We actually have trouble coming up with shows that appeal to both of us. My husband wants to watch movies, but usually by the end of the night I don’t want to sit for 2 (or more) hours. A couple of episodes of something is just right.

    1. I’m totally with you on that. We’ve never used an extender leash.

      We tried the first episode of Grace & Frankie, but it didn’t really appeal to my husband. Not always easy to find one we both like.

  11. I have been on the look out for dog friendly flowers. I found out that mums are toxic to dogs so I did not buy any this year. Funnily enough, my pappy secretly dropped one off for me on my porch. I put it up on a stand and so far the dogs have not bothered it!
    Yes, we’ve had some run ins with other dogs. One day 2 Pitbulls came into my yard and surrounded Baylee. My heart dropped, as I didn’t know what to do. Thankfully they seemed friendly.

    1. That reminds me of the time we had our very first meet & greet with Chester. He was a tiny puppy.

      The house behind us had a pitbull that was always chained up in the backyard (no fence, either, I think). Anyway, he got off his tie out that day and came straight for Chester! Very scary. He was not a nice pitbull — but that was because of the way his owners treated him.

      Another neighbor there had a chow mix. Her son was afraid of the dog. They’d never trained it. So I helped her train it. The dog was actually pretty sweet, and learned well even though it must have been at least 3 years old or more at that point.

  12. I totally agree with you on the sidewalk hogs and the extendable dog leashes. Any dog is capable of biting someone, given the right circumstances (it’s startled, hurt, defensive, etc.) and anyone who says otherwise is naive. I have two big dogs and always keep a close eye on them when I’m walking them because even though I love dogs I know not everyone does.
