Mr. Judy to the Rescue: 10/12 – 18 WRD

Yes, there is some running to report this week! Nothing wild, just a few short runs. Still lots of Yoga and walking. Less walking, though, because . . . running. My running miles basically replaced my extra walking miles from the previous week.

Running Update

Tuesday intention: Restart Running safely
Circumstances had me running on the two rainy days this week, which meant treadmill runs for me. I also started a loose version of the Peloton Road to 5k Program. Today’s run was intervals. I may have run a bit harder than I’d really intended but all was well and there was never any DOMs.

Friday intention: Running but finally some weights!
More rain. More treadmill miles. This time it was a 10 min WU, 20 min run with 10 min of legwork. Somehow following a Peloton class makes it much easier on the treadmill (for me).

I started with a warmup walk through the woods

Sunday intention: Go the distance . . .
. . . but not really. Just a slightly longer run than the first couple of runs — but easy! Although somehow negative splits. The mostly downhill second half might have had something to do with that. I started out with a walk through the woods (pictured above) to warm up.

Then onto my run

It was a bit hillier than I’d intended, but I had all the colored leaves to keep me entertained.

And this is where things went sideways

I chose a different way back because it was supposed to bring me back to where I’d parked. Then I got to the “path end” sign and had no idea how to go. I ended up calling Mr. Judy because I hate the maps app on my iphone 6, and he was able to point me in the right direction. I knew I was so close, but after walking back and forth for about a mile, I was getting darn hungry and anxious, too.

We’re at peak in the neighborhood

Favorites of the week
Despite a couple of days of rain, we’re really at peak up here in upstate NY and we’ve been blessed with some great Fall weather, too.

Fueled up for our walk

I didn’t need ice cream for most of my short walks/hikes this week, but since we got a warmer day — and I don’t like ice cream when it’s cold — this could be the last of the season.

Loved our walk around this pond so much I returned to this area to run (not the trails we walked on)
Short walk at another nature preserve with the dogs

This particular preserve had warnings about the duck hunting going on. A lot of people were still walking. I decided to chance it. I could hear shots, but never very close.

I needed this hot chocolate today!

You guys, this hot chocolate is da bomb. Seriously. I made it with chocolate cashew milk I made. I add collagen, turmeric paste, and some mini chocolate chips to it so it’s nice and creamy and chocolatey. Today I actually added some whipped cream and cinnamon (unpictured) because I ended up going a lot farther than I’d planned to! Yes, at some point I’ll be posting about my nut milk making adventures.

Oh, and that’s the Echo Show 8 we bought for my mom in the background. I’m working on setting it up for  her. We got a good deal on Prime Day; it’s not as good a deal now, of course, but it is slightly discounted here (Amazon Affiliate link). The sound is great! I’ve been having fun with it, when I’m not tearing my hair out how to get stuff working, of course. It’s been that kind of week. Sorry for the long post!

Do you ease back into running after a break or just pick up where you left off?

Do you embrace walking in addition to running or do you always feel the need for speed?

What is one thing you’re proud you did this week?

gwy self healing meditation

ICYMI: Sometimes video and audio fights me, and that was the case this week. I finally did get my Self Healing meditation put together after much hair pulling (ironic, no?) and you can find it here. Or maybe not. The first try at uploading it hung up. I’ve never had that happen before. I’m trying again but it’s unlikely to be live by the time I post.

Coming up on Tuesday: I finished my 40 Day Kriya and I’m sharing my thoughts on that. On Friday it’s a very personal post. Please view it with compassion and know that it’s not aimed at any person/s in particular.

  1. I’ve only taken a running break when injured so yes, of course I’ve eased back. I have actually started almost from the beginning if it was long lay off or a serious injury.

I recognize your walks since I’ve done the same ones. It was earlier on and not as nice as in the fall. Everything looks better in the fall.

Proud to have run my 8th half marathon of 2020…all but 2 were virtual…Next one will be real but real in 2020 is not exactly real. lol

I use the ALLTrails app when I walk on trails…you can’t get lost since there’s a dot and shows you where you are and moves with you. Also Google maps is better than Apple maps…but I don’t have unlimited data so I usually screen capture my maps before I leave the house.

That hot chocolate sounds delicious even for someone who doesn’t really like chocolate. I was very warm hiking today and had ice cream on the way home.

    1. I use alltrails too, but I couldn’t get the dot to work. Not sure why (this was previously).

The problem wasn’t actually the paths, those were all well marked. The problem was when I came off the bike path and onto the road — I didn’t know it at the time, but all I had to do was turn left. THAT wasn’t well marked. But now I know. 🙂

  2. I always ease back into running after a break; usually my breaks are due to injury and there’s no need to invite trouble! And to answer your other question, as much as I LOVE to run fast, you know I don’t do that every time i run. The trails are perfect for slowing down and I enjoy the combo running/hiking I do there. Keeps me off the injury train. I’ll slow back down again this winter.

I’ve gotten lost before, for real and it’s not fun to have to hike extra miles when you didn’t plan for it!

  3. I have been walking daily and I have really come to love it. The trees are looking beautiful by you looks like you are in full blown fall. WE are a few weeks behind I think. Best time of the year to be out enjoying it

  4. I’ve been on a break from running long distances since I finished London back in 2019. I do always ease back though, although for now I have no intention of running more. Your colors are gorgeous! I think we’re at peak here too but the rain and wind are going to expedite matters.

    1. First, let me say again, how sorry I was to hear of your Dad’s passing. He is at peace now, but that’s not always comforting to those left behind, I know.

Yeah, we’re getting a bit past peak here now, but still, there are some spectacular trees out there!

  5. The trees are so beautiful where you are! A lot of the leaves on our trees haven’t turned yet so I’m patiently waiting, lol

You’ll have to let us know how you like the Peloton Road to 5k Program once you finish it. I haven’t done any of their run training programs yet ad I’m curious!

    1. Well, my treadmill doesn’t really do inclines any more, and they use that a lot of course, so I wing it a bit.

I don’t think it’s really geared towards beginners. I think I might have found it discouraging if I’d tried it when I was just starting out. They try to be inclusive, but I really think it’s geared more towards people who’ve been running a while. And luckily I have. 🙂

Plus I don’t want to do all my runs on a treadmill! But so far, overall, so good.

  6. Gorgeous leaves, and glad you weren’t dangerously lost. Sorry to miss you on my flyby.
My only full break was this spring and I definitely started over. Didn’t do formal C25K, but went back to scratch and built slowly. I think you could make a case that I’m still building, but I feel like I’m pretty steady.
Mm hot chocolate. Was one of the first things I learned to make in my crockpot.

  7. The leaves are so pretty there! We have a few turning color, but not many yet. I hate the iPhone Maps app too, but have Google maps installed, so I use that. My husband isn’t great at directions, so I’m better off with technology. 😉 I love hot chocolate but rarely take the time to make it. I’ve got lots of tins of “drinking chocolate” in my pantry ….

    1. Well, mine was just the chocolate cashew milk, some healthy drinking chocolate, some chocolate chips, and turmeric paste (I make that myself; it makes things really creamy too & lasts a long time). Then I just microwave all that, so it really doesn’t take long.

  8. All of the color there look so amazing! When I get back to running after a break I will ease back in if I’m recovering from a race or injury. The last time I took a break wasn’t for either of those reasons so i pretty much jumped right back in.

  9. You probably know I Love walking almost as much as running (and have actually missed walking more than running during this stress fracture sabbatical of mine). I have every intention of easing back (to running) when the time comes. We have a lot of beautiful color right now, but all of last week’s wind has wreaked a bit of havoc with falling leaves.

  10. I’ve only had a running break if I’ve been injured or when I had my operation, so I work back in gradually. And I do like a walk and in fact had a very nice one today. Love your photos, amazing colours.

  11. I have to ease back into it after a break. I don’t have any choice – my body won’t let me.

You have a beautiful place to run! If I was you, I would be stopping every minute or so to gape at the leaves.

Yay for Mr. Judy!!! Isn’t it nice when someone you love comes to your rescue?

    1. Oh, there were plenty of stops. Obviously. That’s what pause is for. 🙂 That particular path is relatively new to me. I’ve been a couple of time with a friend, but that was the first time I ran there.

  12. Such beautiful walks. I love the foliage and everything about that. Sorry you got a little lost. I would have been panicky, too.

I am always in the mood for ice cream, hot or cold. It’s my favorite food.

I am very interested to hear about your nut milk making!

    1. Nut milk really is pretty easy to make. Although I have to make some today for tomorrow morning, and I kinda don’t want to, but it really doesn’t take much time.

I especially love the cashew milk because it doesn’t need to be strained!

  13. I hope your mom enjoys her Echo Show 8. What a nice gift!

Your pictures of your fall trees are stunning. We’ve had some gorgeous days (blue skies and pretty leaves) here this week.

Yay for Mr. Judy helping you figure out your way back to your car!

Oh, and I can eat ice cream in any weather. LOL
