What goes around comes around: 12/21 – 27 WRD

The subject refers to the snow! It warmed up on Thursday and Friday, rained, and the snow was almost all washed away. Then the temps took a dive, it immediately snowed just a bit Friday night — so much for clear places to run.

Running Update

Finally found some real snowmen

Tuesday intention: go the distance but keep it EASY
Good thing my long runs are not very long. Because I did a long run on Sunday, and another one today. I knew Thursday and Friday would be a washout. It was going to turn very cold again on the weekend. A 6 mile run is totally doable midweek, so better to get it out of the way. I didn’t quite count on the longer walk with my friend the day before, but she’d lost her second (and last cat) so I knew she needed some support. This run was actually a couple of minutes faster than Sunday’s — I chalk that up to not having to worry about slipping on ice.

Friday intention: building up endurance
I thought I would be working on endurance again today, but when I saw a Beatles run on Peloton, I knew I had to do it! I was a bit afraid I’d be disappointed like I was with the Whitney Houston run, but I definitely enjoyed this run and I think the Beatles are great to run to. It was a 45 minute run, but it was speedwork, which I definitely hadn’t planned on. So I just used the last five minutes to walk for my cool down, since I hadn’t planned on doing a harder run today! Some random underarm chafing (not too bad thankfully).

Did Santa have a bit too much fun?

Sunday intention: now work on endurance
Cold, but no wind and sunny — a great day to run. I mostly ran without walk breaks. I walked a bit to sip some water each mile, and in the last mile, I did do a few walk breaks. Mostly positive splits, although sort of bell curve (faster, slow down, fast) — well, none of it was really fast but I was pleasantly surprised by my paces. I thought I was running a lot slower and it felt hard.

Exploring Olana in the snow. The next day the rain took care of the snow.

Favorites of the week
Glad I got in another visit to my mom, because there’s been another case so they’ll be closing visitationuntil everyone is tested again. Although they allowed visits on Christmas anyway, which seemed odd, although I get it, too. My sister and her daughter visited my mom on Christmas day, and we did a video chat with everyone using our Echos. I have not seen them in person since my birthday (February).

There’s a slight reprieve in that department: my sister was actually ready to back out of the sale of her house, but the buyer really wants their house and will wait until the summer. My sister realized that she didn’t want to travel right now, and they need to go and look at condos at some point.

Do you enjoy your holiday if you celebrate?

Any live races coming up?

Any plans for NYE? The normal for us: stay in, probably a movie. We watched several movies over Christmas. Movies that are favorites. Action movies. Christmas action movies: Die Hard, Lethal Weapon. And of course Love Actually (not action obviously, but a tradition!)

GWY Sleep Course 4

ICYMI: Today I’m releasing the final short Yin Yoga flow to help you wind down for bed. You’ll find it here. It’s paired with a Savasana video — so simple, but great to do along with some guided relaxation like I’ve got for you in this video (it’s linked up at the end of the video above). There’s one more video in the series to be released next week. I hope they’ve helped you if you’ve tried them!

Coming up on Tuesday: I’m wrapping up the last month of 2020. I’m ready to embrace 2021! On Friday say hello to 2021 and join the blogger coffee date here.

  1. Yes, cold and sunny is quite nice when the wind plays nice (or doesn’t come to the party). Glad you could be there for your friend. My weather app showed rain today (it started late morning), so I’m glad I got my run done early. It’s odd to have rain in December…but the temp is hovering at 33F LOL

    1. We had a real washout Thursday & most of Friday! And then it snowed & it’s been in the 20s. Seems to be the way it’s been the last few years: it snows, it warms up & it all melts, then it snows some more.

I like it when there are clear places to run!

  2. Endurance? What’s that? Haha! I’m not sure when I’ll feel like ramping up again. Your weather has been all over the place. While we’ve had maybe half an inch of snow over Christmas, we’re very much still in our snow drought and that’s A-okay with me. It would be pretty but I guess I’ll embrace our brown desolation.

  3. Today was perfect for my long run and I finally didn’t have to run any of the 10 miles alone.

Yup snow is mostly gone but not in the hills so hiking is dicey.

NYE is up in the air. We always do something with friends but we may just stay home to play it safe.

You made me realize that I haven’t seen a movie in ages.

Live races? Not much scheduled around here until April. I doubt we will have any until Fall. They are saying it will be until then to have everyone vaccinated twice.

    1. Interesting on your sister’s house/move. I guess the buyer is motivated but isn’t in a hurry! We got a lot of rain this week, which meant slippery sidewalks when the wetness froze overnight. I’ll have to try that Beatles run – I did enjoy the ride.

      1. I think my sister & BIL just saw the $$ because houses are selling like hotcakes & really didn’t think it through. I wonder if my sister is actually regretting moving away from my mom. Whatever, They’re lucky the found a buyer who wants their house so much, but it is a really nice house! I’d want it if it was up here!

  4. I really like how you set intentions for each of your runs. The rain/snow combo is never good. Ice scares me for sure. I just saw all of the Beatles classes and I am anxious to take some. Hope your mom remains healthy I will be thinking of her!

    1. My mom is very tough, and so far so good. They are supposed to be vaccinated soon, supposedly, otherwise I suspect I’ll continue to see this going on.

I’m sure you’re going to love your Beatles workouts! I wonder how they license all this stuff?!

  5. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the Beatles run! I’m looking forward to doing all of the Peloton Beatles themed workouts next month. I love that their artist series always have a lot of variety and cover all genres of music.

No plans for NYE, but I always stay home anyway so nothing new there, lol.

  6. It’s interesting to see how we are all at different places with regard to our training! I’m enjoying the return of my endurance and my speed. I have to be conscientious, tho, so that I don’t overdo it and get injured!

Not sure what we are doing for NYE yet. We talked about going to the lake, but it depends on the weather.

  7. Everyone seemed to be front loading their weeks fitness wise due to the weather and the holiday! Glad you were able to fit in our long run. Sorry to hear about the loss of visitors at your mom’s. 😦 Hopefully soon things will be closer to normal….

    1. Most likely they will be opened back up at my mom’s, knock on wood. That seems to be the pattern.

The long run actually would’ve been good yesterday, but it was a long week so I was glad I got that out of the way earlier!

Isn’t it funny how we have to do it if we weite, err type it.
Yay on your sister’s possible sale. Sorry to hear about a case in your mom’s facility. Hope she stays healthy

    1. I did, indeed, do the core workout. That’s why I wrote about it. I knew I probably would.

Thanks, Cari. I hope she stays healthy, too. She’s had several friends (not living where she does) who have had it — and they’re all ok, so that’s good news.

  9. I am missing out on so many fun Peloton runs! Glad you liked the Beatles one. I am sorry to hear about your friend’s cat. That is so sad but I am glad you were there for her. Thinking of your mom. Hopefully you can see her again soon.

    1. That cat was quite old, so of course it’s always sad but she had had a good, long life. The other cat they lost this year was young, and it was totally unexpected & really traumatic. 😦

Thanks, Zenaida! I normally wouldn’t be going to see my mom again until next week. My guess is I may not be able to, but they do expect to get the first vaccine soon (supposedly).

I actually could use a little break from it, but I know how much my mom looks forward to our visits, because things are very dull there, even though the staff really tries hard.

    1. I have confidence my mom will be ok. I hadn’t planned to see her until 2021, since I was just there, but it will be interesting to see if my sister tries to see her (outside — sometimes my mom will go out on her balcony to see her).

I am still considering how I want to start out 2021! Heck, I’m still trying to figure out how I want to juggle my runs this week, LOL!

  10. We had a good Christmas Day just the two of us, with a Zoom call to Matthew’s parents and a good friend of ours who had promised me one when we thought I was going to be alone on Christmas Day. Matthew did an excellent Christmas dinner – hooray! And I had a lovely run in the morning. NYE I will be running in the day and falling asleep before midnight as usual … Happy New Year to you!

  11. So glad you got to visit your mom again, but sorry to hear about the visitation shut down.

The snow, rain, and low temps have made running outside a bit dicey for sure – I injured myself slipping on black ice once and so I’m very leery!

Good to hear that you like the Beetles run – I’m looking forward to taking that one sometime this week.

    1. I have sometimes slipped at the bottom of our (downhill) driveway, but usually falling on my butt which is well cushioned, not just with the coat, LOL, so I’ve been lucky so far, knock on wood.

Definitely recommend the Beatles run! I’m going to try the 2010s run soon, too. That looks like it should be really good! I *could* run outside today but it’ll just be quicker inside for me today. That’s my story, anyway.

  12. I’m so glad you got to see your mom.

We will probably sit out around the culdesac and have some food and champagne with the neighbors, like a spaced out tailgate. Mr. PugRunner’s birthday is New Year’s Day so I hope we can make it special for him.

    1. Ah, so lucky that it’s warm enough to gather outside! I suppose it’s an option here, but not for me! Have fun; that sounds lovely! Happy Birthday to Mr. PugRunner — as a fellow holiday birthday, I know that can be tough.

I timed my visit to my mom perfectly. I have faith that the next visit won’t be too much delayed, although I won’t lie, I could use a break from that.

  13. Here’s hoping your streets stay snow and ice-free for a while!

Our NYE plans will be the same as for the last several years, we’ll stay home and may or may not stay up long enough for the ball to drop. I’m running in a Virtual NYD 5K, but want to run it on NYD morning as if it’s live, but the weather forecast is for lots of rain so we’ll see…
