Never Forget: 9/6 – 12 WRD

I think we all know what we’re remembering this week. Let me tell you, it was a week. There was mom stress, there was car stress, there was the run coach test stress (which I’m still working on!).

Running Update

Tuesday Intention: pain free
After resting my feet for 3 days (sort of, there was still plenty of walking), it was time to see what happened when I ran. I also wanted to test out the mill. I was going to do 2 miles outside, and 1 inside, but I was afraid if the mill was the same I wouldn’t get in that final mile. It seemed a shame, too, because the weather was just beautiful this morning!

The mill — still not sure. I made it through .75 mile on it, more or less, but it did get very noisy towards the end again. The foot — while definitely much better, there’s still some sensation there. Nothing that causes me to limp, I can jump on it (but I don’t) or press on it without pain. After tomorrow’s short run (fingers crossed) I’ll have another 2 days off running while I’m at my mom again.

Wednesday Intention: recover & test treadmill
Sadly so far nothing Mr. Judy has tried has really fixed the treadmill. I did one mile, which was fine. Stopped, walked around a bit to let the mill relax. Not long after I started the second mile it started to slow down.

Oddly if I lean on the control panel it keeps the right pace, but that gets old quickly (and my Garmin can no longer track anything). So probably close to 2 miles, but not quite there. I had mentally prepared myself for one or one and a half, so I wasn’t too frustrated.

Peace, contemplation, running & journaling by the water

Saturday Intention: go long-er & remember
I wasn’t about to make the same mistake two weeks in a row, plus the week was exhausting, so I ditched a long run in favor of just a long-er run. Still some sensation there, but fairly quickly goes away. Thoughts of 9/11 before, during, and after this run.

We also celebrated Rose Hashanah this week with a non traditional grazing board & the more traditional apples & honey

Favorites of the week
Despite the stress, there was plenty of good this week, too. Mom has healed well and this was her last visit to the orthopedist.

Mazel Tov!

One of my nephews got married this week. It was a not-so-live YouTube ceremony; still, I was able to set my mom up so she could watch on my Ipad while I watched on my phone.

As if the stress at my mom’s wasn’t enough, when I started to leave the car lit up like a Christmas Tree. I knew Mr. Judy had a doctor’s appointment, but luckily I was able to get ahold of him. We determined that *hopefully* the car was driveable, as I was two hours away from home, and quite frankly I was out of clean clothes and food!

I made it home just fine, but we can’t get an appointment for three weeks. I’m supposed to take my mom to the cardiologist next week.

ICYMI: I’ve got not one, not two, but three short (5 minutes or less) videos to help you keep your feet happy this week (and every week). These are all techniques I use myself at least several times a week, with the exception of the foot compression (because my feet aren’t bothering me as much anymore — but I did use it for quite some time when they did bother me). I also get a little fancy with some video in video this week! Try them all, pick the exercises that work for you — and get ready to feel a whole lot better when you run.

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: I’ve got a lot more to say about colonoscopies. Once I’m done with you, you’ll be feeling a whole lot better about that first colonoscopy!

    1. I think it’s probably time for a new treadmill too. But then there’s the problem of disposing of the old one, and someone doesn’t think it’s time yet.

The problem with the car is most likely covered under warranty. So we have to go to a dealer. I imagine (but who knows?) that we might be able to get into a different garage sooner.

  1. I sometimes have lights on my car but my hubby has a code tester to see if it is serious. almost 150k miles and going strong- fingers crossed.

Hope the foot continues to heal. You are [probably smart to rest it. Esp since you are not racing. The same goes for the treadmill.

    1. This wasn’t just lights, it was almost all the lights! Mr. Judy does have a code reader, but couldn’t find it. Luckily a neighbor also had one.

It might be serious, it might not, but most likely under warranty so we have to wait.

      1. It is what it is. Now to decide whether or not to drive it down this week — if I have to go, it’s a bit up in the air at the moment — and hope if I do that it doesn’t happen while my mom is in the car and/or that it drives fine like it did last week. It was a stressful drive back home. I’ve had worse though.

  2. Sorry for the stress.
You are “deliberately taking it easy”, however you had a good week with activities every day: well done!
I don’t like to run on the treadmill and I said no more when the old didn’t work anymore and the new started to slow down after few minutes (I gave it back to the dealer).

  3. Thats crazy that it will take 3 weeks to get a car appointment! Is that at the dealer? We usually just go to firestone now since they do a pretty good job and we can get appointments quickly. Sorry about the stress this week! I hope you can figure out how to fix the treadmill before the winter weather arrives.

    1. Yes, it’s the dealer. There’s already a recall to deal with, and it’s most likely covered under warranty. My husband did ask about a loaner but they don’t have any.

He’s been driving it around a little and so far so good. I may end up taking it again this week — although whether or not I need to go is up in the air at the moment.

We just bought a new tv after 15 or so years, so my husband doesn’t really want to spend the money on a new treadmill — and of course there are some other things that we need recently. He also knows how important the treadmill is to me!

  4. Sorry for all the stress, Judy. I’m glad to hear your mom is doing much better! That’s great that you were able to enable her to watch the wedding 😉 I hear ya on the treadmill issue. I have not touched dear Milly in months…(like maybe February?). I should plug her in and see if she lights up. I have not needed her, so it’s not a big deal, but come winter, I may need to summon her (or an inevitable replacement) on occasion. UGH.

    1. For me not having a treadmill is a big deal. Sometimes it’s just a time thing, too, easier to get a quick run in on the mill rather than outside some days when I’m road tripping.

I’m sure we’ll sort it out at some point.

    1. Definitely crazy that the dealer is that backed up. Sigh!

My foot is much better, there’s still some sensation (not really pain, not even sore really, just something) after a run that goes away fairly quickly. Keeping those runs short for now!

  5. Sorry about all the stress! Mr Liz has had to wait a month for a doctor’s appointment, but that’s because he wanted the “good” doctor not the rubbish one …

I’ve had to dial back on my running as I’ve realised I’ve overtrained myself (ridiculous as that sounds) doing 22-28 mile weeks since April 2020 with very few lower mileage weeks. Oddly enough, I’m exhausted, and it’s not just the menopause though some of it is. Fingers crossed I can get round my half marathon in a month’s time …

    1. Ha, apparently I can overtrain on 10 miles a week! No real injury thought, so it’s ok.

I think a lot of us have Pandemic fatigue. 😦

I’m sorry your husband has to wait so long for the dr. I assume that it’s nothing serious!

      1. He’s slipped from pre-diabetes to actual diabetes so yes, pretty serious, but that’s how it goes. He could phone every day and try to get an on the day appt but that’s hard to arrange around work. Anyway it’s on Monday so all good!

  6. Sounds like there was a lot of good this week in spite of the stress. I’m glad to hear your mom is doing well, and congratulations to your nephew!
I know treadmills are expensive so I can understand why you’re trying to resurrect your old one, but… with winter coming it might be time to start shopping!
I once had a 20 year old car that I drove for about a year with the “check engine” light on. It wasn’t worth putting too much money into it, and I figured I would just drive it until the engine fell out (that didn’t actually happen.) Not that I’m recommending you drive your car for a year like this. Hopefully you can get it serviced soon!

    1. I am definitely going to be looking at treadmills more seriously now, even as my husband still tilts at the windmill so to speak. It’s about as old as my car — somewhere around 20 years.

My car had some check engine problems and we reset it a few times (won’t pass inspection with the light on) and eventually got it fixed.

This is my husband’s car, which is younger but not young.

I swear I DO want to hold onto mine until the engine falls out (almost had that happen on a different old car once, LOL!) because new cars are so expensive & complicated.

  7. I am behind on your posts, once again, so missed the foot injury. I’m glad it is starting to feel better and that rest is helping. Glad your mom had her last ortho appointment too. Congratulations to your nephew and his wife. I wish them many happy years together. I hope your stress calms down a bit and there is nothing serious wrong with your car. Also sorry about the treadmill issues. I think mine is on it’s last legs too. I am dreading the day it quits working.

    1. Well, it’s my husband’s car. I usually drive it to my mom because it’s not as old as mine, LOL!

Thanks! My nephew & his new bride was a little bit of a shotgun wedding. They were definitely planning to get married, but her visa was running out!

      1. Funny how newer doesn’t always equate to better.

I do hope the best for your nephew and bride. I understand circumstances changing wedding dates. I had to move my date up a month (in 1994) because I was in the AF and getting transferred. We had to be married so they would move his stuff too. Fortunately, we weren’t planning anything big, so the change was easy.

  8. Congratulations to your nephew – that’s such a sweet photo!

Happy to hear that your mom is healing well and feeling better. I know it’s been a long process so its so nice to hear that she continues to make improvements.

Such a bummer about the car and 3 weeks for appointment?? I know that some places are short staffed but that just seems like such a long time!

    1. It IS a long time!

Thanks, Kim. Not an official photo, those may be coming this week, just a screen shot, LOL! Who would’ve ever thought we’d say “screen shot” & “wedding” in the same sentence?

  9. Ugh, what a week you had, but you seem to be taking it in stride pretty well. What else can you really do, right? That’s great news about your mom healing well and about to wrap it up with her ortho.
And here’s hoping the car fix is minor. Congrats to your nephew and his bride!

    1. Unfortunately the stress is ongoing. We keep hoping things will stabilize, but that hasn’t happened yet. Physically everything is fine . . . well, sort of. I guess as ok as it’s going to be when you’re 93 & have 3 serious health conidiations. Thanks, Cari.
