My trip to my mom went relatively smoothly. Oh sure, lots of stuff to do for her, but I even got some of my own stuff done for a change. I was definitely tired when I got home yesterday afternoon! Didn’t stop me from running today. Luckily I’d preloaded most of my running earlier in the week, not knowing how the weekend would play out.

Monday Intention: go long-er
I wanted to preload a long-er run into this week, as I’d be at my moms for a few days towards the end of the week and there’s a potential pesky Winter storm on its way, too. I decided to add in some hill repeats while the streets are clear — nothing too crazy. By the time those were done, I was close enough to 4 miles to add on that extra half mile. Whether or not I get in 3 runs this week remains to be seen.
Wednesday Intention: easy does it
I wanted to go somewhere to run, but with most paths still unreliable and unsure if they were clear or not plus getting ready to go my mom, I chose to stay in my neighborhood. I also chose to run towards the nearby college because I hadn’t done that in a while and by the end of the week the sidewalks most likely will be snow covered again.
The college has a row of trees that are nice for a fartlek on the way back, and I started to do that. It was a warm morning (yes, finally!) and I noticed my heart rate shot up much higher than normal. There are times this happens and I know it’s just a weird reading, but this time it seemed to be accurate. I guess my body wasn’t happy with sprints, warmer temps, and an uphill. So I cut that out! It was still a good run and my goal was to run easily originally anyway!
A rare positive split run day, but I pulled out a faster last mile (the uphill was done!).
Sunday Intention: easy does it
I like to take a rest day after going to my moms, but I also wanted to get in a third run. It was cold and windy this morning and I wasn’t feeling an outdoor run. I decided to do a 10 min Peloton WU run followed by a 30 minute endurance run (which had some mild hills). It would have served me well if I hadn’t hit the indoor bike button by mistake on the WU run — well, it still did serve me well but I don’t no the exact mileage of the run. No biggie.
I knew I’d be outside walking Bandit, so no worries, I got in my fresh air for the day.
Favorites of the week
The trails at Olana were for the most part snow and ice free! I got to hike a little bit, anyway.
Not so favorite? The time it took to clear the car after the snow and ice at my moms. I’m too short for Mr. Judy’s car! Not only can I not see the middle of the roof, I can’t reach it either. It was quite the workout. The roads were clear, though, so I was happy I was able to actually get an outside walk on Friday. I thought I’d be cooped up inside all day.
At home, by the way, we didn’t get the ice. What we did get was a lot more snow!
ICYMI: I’m going to help you play big (instead of small) with this Yin/Restorative Yoga practice. It’s a great neck and shoulder opener, and will open up your heart, too, which physically helps you to breath deeper. If you’re looking for a relaxing evening practice, I highly suggest this one! I also have a short vlog with some thoughts about when is the “right” time to practice Yin Yoga.
Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday it’s time to wrap up the short month of February. Did you hear I turned 60 this month, LOL? It’s like running a marathon. On Friday of course I’ll join you with your hot beverage of choice to chat.
