My heart was heavy much of this week, as I’m sure was the case for many people. What is going on in the Ukraine reminds me of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising — if you’re not familiar with it, google it. I think the world is in a different place now, though, or at least I hope so (despite all the problems), and I pray that it ends much better for Ukraine.
I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner, and slowly increasing my miles.

Running Update
Tuesday Intention: go long-er but keep it easy
Why I wore my fast shoes for my long-er run I have no idea, but maybe in the end it was a good thing — it was quite cold so while I did keep it easy, no doubt with other shoes it would have been even slower. I don’t really know why I wanted to do my long-er run today — the conditions weren’t great, cold and windy, but the wind thankfully wasn’t constant.
Most notable thing was that I notice my Achilles felt completely normal after this run. Because it was very flat? Perhaps when I do decide to run a half again, I’ll need a flat one. Because it’s been so long and it will take a while to build back up to where I used to be. Still no plans for a half any time soon, though.
Thursday Intention: easy does it
It was kind of a tricky week to schedule my runs — and there were only three! I again vacillated on whether to run indoors or out today — I won’t bored you with the details. With a fresh (but small) coat of snow, and temps that would be falling, lots of things to get done, I decided to keep it indoors. I chose a Peloton Intervals run and it served me well. Long intervals, I walked the recovery (you were told to run them), no crazy paces.
Saturday Intention: long-er again
I would have liked to take advantage of the warmer Sunday temps, but with a trip to my mom for her birthday next Thursday, I wanted to run Monday & Wednesday. For whatever reason I decided to run 5 miles again. So two 5 milers this week.
I was pleasantly surprised that I could run in the park, once I made my way safely across the bridge above. It’s been a minute. There are mildly rolling hills there, and my Achilles was quiet again. I wore my slow shoes today and my time was the same as Tuesday’s run, but this run was far less windy (part of why I chose to run on the colder day).
I actually ran into a running friend I hadn’t seen in months at the end of my (and her) run. We chatted briefly to catch up and then finished up our runs separately.
Favorites of the week
It is really amazing how much work goes into putting together a Yoga program. I have Hatha flows, I have a Yin practice, a Restorative practice, Pranayama, and several meditations — warmups, cool downs, and hip strengtheners Oh My! Right now I’m targeting 3/27 for the fun to begin — you can sign up here to be in the know — or tell a friend you think would enjoy it!
It was a nose to the grindstone kind of week!
ICYMI: A simple, accessible Hatha Yoga flow you can use to keep your IT Band happy. In this week’s short vlog, I’ll touch on causes of IT Band pain and potential fixes that I’ve personally used.

Coming up on Tuesday & Friday: Tuesday what race distance do you prefer? I weigh in my favorites. On Friday I’m sharing how you can turn even a small bathroom into an oasis.
As you know we do all our long runs at the Crossings in the winter so you would have seen me but unfortunately I couldn’t join her. this week.
I don’t have much leeway what days and times I run because of work and I always run 3x plus a 8-13 mile long run on the weekend. It is often a scheduling nightmare.
Hoping that the snow melts .. I have quite few races coming up.
Happy Birthday to your mom.

Even without working I don’t always have a lot of leeway either, but I obviously have more leeway with time of day.

Yup. I’m tied to my computer from 8am-4pm. And I really wanted to run yesterday with Sherry but sometimes you have to be selfless with your time.

Your running skirt is cute but let’s talk about that dog canvas above your shoulder!!!! That is adorable.
I bet it felt nice to get back to your park for a run and even nice that you met a friend there. I’m looking forward to getting back to my park too but it flooded a few weeks ago and I know the ground there is still “mushy”.

Well, that’s Chester. He’s been gone almost 6 years. There are 4 animals in addition to Bandit on that wall, the 4 we moved here with from TX 13 years ago. They’re all gone. 😦 Sorry to be a downer, it still hurts sometimes!
I got together with a friend to walk in my neighborhood a few weeks ago, because that same park was pretty flooded.

I spy Cabernet Camo for the win! Yes the weather is so up and down lately. We had vicious storms last night that took down some BIG tree branches. This wind advisory can end any time now. Over it. How fun to run into a friend at the park!

The winds have just been insane, although yesterday for us it was actually come. We usually get your weather a few days later. It was supposed to rain this morning & it didn’t at all!

I haven’t mentioned it on the blog, but I’ve had some weird achiness on my left foot (kind of under the ball of the foot). Nothing painful, but just weird. After Friday’s 5-miler, on the rough terrain around the lake, I have not felt a thing. Hmmm. Maybe all the stabilizer muscles/tendons (or whatever they are) were loosened up and that solved the problem? Another mystery, LOL I’m glad to hear your Achilles is behaving, too!

It can be really hard to know why things ache randomly & what fixed them. Maybe my Achilles also likes the cycling, only I only got on my stationary bike once this week.
I’m glad your foot feels better too Kim!

That sounds like a good week- you did two 5 mile runs! It’s funny to see everyone’s pictures this week- so many people are posting about spring weather, it was startling to see all the snow and ice in your photos. I’m REALLY looking forward to your Friday post! We have two tiny bathrooms, and I need ideas!

Well, just read the Rightfits and it sounds like her weather was even worse than ours! But yes, I can’t say that I don’t get jealous of all the warmer temps people keep mentioning. Some day I’ll get away from here!
Our bathroom isn’t tiny, but it’s not larger, either. Well, the half bath is relatively small but it’s also not used as much. This post isn’t about decorating, though, sorry! It’s more about the accessories you can use to make it feel more spa-like.

My achlles was also quite tight this week but not sure why. I have been doing lots of stretching which seemed to help. I was worried it would bother me today but it didn’t . So odd. We had quite the warm up this week. Good to train in different temps! Sound like your runs went much better this week!

Maybe it was just the normal phantom pains we get as we taper. Glad to hear it sounds like your race went well!
Can’t wait to see what you do in your half!

Nice job on the two 5 milers! Glad you could run at your old park and see a friend. I think all runners are ready for clear trails and spring weather 🙂
I’ve read that the ‘fast’ shoes with foam (like the endorphins, I think) can get heavier/less fast in the cold? I haven’t worn my endorphin pros outside in a bit only because even if I have a workout, I’m more concerned about traction than anything else 🙂

Hmm, interesting about the foam and cold. When I’m worried about the traction I also turn to the treadmill. Luckily no 16 milers for me!

Your park bridge looks a lot like mine! I didn’t have all ice but there was a lot of it, especially up in Wisconsin. It’s only 2 hours away but we are way ahead of them, with the meltoff and all. We’ll see what happens tho, we’re supposed to get snow tomorrow.

I’m sorry about the forecast snow! There just comes a point when it’s time for Spring, right? Even if the calendar doesn’t say Spring.
That bridge is what’s kept me out of the park for months. Usually it is solid ice. Although the paths weren’t completely free of the stuff, and once or twice I had to turn around because the ice completely covered the path and the sides, too.
It was nice to run in a different location finally though!

That trail looks icy! I’d be on the treadmill with those conditions, How nice to run into a friend — especially at the end of your runs when you both could stop and chat.
The war on Ukraine is so hard to fathom. It’s odd being “on their side” but not sending our military to support them. I can’t see how this will end well, but am trying to hold out hope.

That was just the bridge into the park. The paths on the park were mostly ok (as you can see in the sunglass photo). I didn’t expect that, which is why I parked in the lot outside the park — but then I could see I could get in there.
I agree — isolationism never works. But neither did the war in Afghanistan. I’m glad it’s not my job to try to figure out the right thing to do.

So happy to hear about your running and that your Achilles is behaving! Two other things also jumped out at me in this blog – your gorgeous purple skirt and the tights with the purple accents for yoga video + the very artistic shot of your sunglasses against that backdrop. Gorgeous!

Thank you, Shathiso. The tights & skirt are skirtsports.com. The sunglasses photo was a trick I learned in the iphone photography course I took! I did have to climb into a snow bank to get that shot. It was just a teensy bit precarious. 😊

I do like that camo pattern – I haven’t been on the Skirt Sports site in ages, but it’s tempting.
Nice job getting in two 5-milers. I hope your Achilles continues to behave.

So far so good on the Achilles!
I do recommend the Camo print. But then I’ve always loved Camo. 🙂

Oh that slippery bridge – yikes! We have one on one of our regular routes that has special stuff to help it not be slippery … that get even icier than normal bridges!! I am so far behind on my blog reading this week, so just popping in to say hello. A funny week this week really.

I was back at the bridge today. It was less slippery, but there’s another snowstorm on its way. Warmer weather next week, though, so it shouldn’t stay too bad too long.
Thanks for popping in! Always lovely to “see” you.
