Finally some quiet!: 1/9 – 15 WRD

The title of this blog has a double meaning:

  • More R & R
  • New, quieter dishwasher

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and still staying active with Yoga, Pilates, and dog walks. Still not running . . . I did consider it, but all in all it was a busy — and yes, active (in other ways) week.

While there may have been zero running, it was actually a busy week. There was a trip to mom, with a short stop at the Ashokan Reservoir — I’ve visited a few times before, but I wanted to try parking in a different spot. You could go right or left from where I parked, and I went right — which apparently was a mistake because there’s really not much to see but I really needed a walk. I may try again in the future and go left, because I think there might be more water views that way.

I participated in a arm balance/inversion workshop last week, which was fun but time consuming — 3 online calls lasting almost 2 hours each.

If you have an Instant Pot, I’ve got an easy chicken soup recipe for you! I love doing boneless chicken thighs in my IP — they always come out great. Since you need to put in liquid, I’ve always wondered if you could just make chicken soup from that liquid once the thighs are done. The answer is yes. I just threw into the bottom of the IP some sliced carrots, celery, and onions (after sautéing the chicken thighs briefly first).

Cover the veggies with about 1 1/2 cups water. I will probably try 2 cups next time. Place the trivet on top and put the sautéed chicken thighs on the trivet. Cook on high pressure for 13 minutes. Shred as much of the chicken as you want to put in the broth. I also cooked up some farfalle so we had chicken noodle soup. Mr. Judy approved. I only used half of the thighs I cooked in the soup; I’ll use the other half for some chicken and broccoli.

I joked that I’ve always wanted a labyrinth . . . do you notice what’s missing on the older dishwasher on the right? It’s not usually THIS messy big we had to take a bunch of stuff out from some of the cabinets.

Finally the new dishwasher. It came last Wednesday just as they said it would (Bosch 300 series, if you’re wondering). Alas Mr. Judy didn’t realize our old dishwasher was hardwired, and they couldn’t install it and Mr. Judy had to put in an electrical outlet for the new dishwasher. So now I had two non functioning dishwashers sitting in our small kitchen.

It’s actually a semi-long story so maybe I’ll save it to tell you over tea in a few weeks. The new dishwasher got installed, and it’s presently going through its second load. Again long story short, I’m pretty happy with it so far. A big improvement over the old one — which was also a Bosch.

ICYMI: Feeling kind of burned out from the holidays? Try this more restorative Yin Yoga practice here. I’ve also got a short Vlog explaining how Down Dog may help reduce anxiety, what’s coming to the Channel in January, and a very short practice including breath work to reduce anxiety here.

Coming up on Friday: I have lots of things I want to do, but there just hasn’t been enough hours in the day. I’ll get to it when I get to it. 🙂

  1. I do like to make soup but the old fashioned way. I don’t have a IP.

We got a new dishwasher when we redid the kitchen. The other one lasted forever. I hope this one does. Just a Frigidaire I think.

I hope your running break does what you need.

I seem to run more when busy and stressed. Crazy!

  2. I’ve been meaning to make soup but so far I haven’t gotten to it. I don’t have an IP. Yikes on the dishwasher saga. I swear appliance stuff rarely goes smoothly. I have a Bosch as well and love it.

    1. It ended up not being too bad. At one point they said it would take another week to get the installers back, despite the fact the installers said they could come back in a day. We are enjoying having just one dishwasher now. One that actually has buttons . . .

  3. Is the Ashokan reservoir the same Ashokan as in the tune “Ashokan farewell”? That’s a lovely tune that we play sometimes in our Tuesday night music session. I used to play it on the fiddle, perhaps should try to learn it on the concertina (I quit playing the fiddle because of a problem with my thumb and shoulder). I learned there are words to sing to it too!
How annoying about the dishwasher! I hope you’ve been able to remove the old one by now.

    1. I’d never heard of the song but oddly enough you are right! Ashokan is actually about half an hour away from New Paltz, where the composer lives? lived? But apparently was one of the p,aces he tainha was named after it. The trail is a few years old, although obviously the reservoir was always there.

Thankfully the old dishwasher was removed & the new one is working well. 🙂

  4. Exciting to get a new dishwasher! We had to replace our washing machine for a quieter version during lockdown, even though it hadn’t yet broken down irrevocably (shocking for us), as it got to where I couldn’t run it during the day when Matthew was working in the next room! Horribly behind with my blog reading, and lots of posts had to get deleted, but I’m getting there. Need to get back to a downward dog here and there …
