Soothing waters: 10/2 – 10/8 WRD

Everyone has different places in nature that soothe them. I am definitely attracted to water, although I find gazing out over mountains incredibly calming too. I wasn’t a slug this week, but I wasn’t super active either.

I did commune with the water, though. I also dragged Mr. Judy and Bandit along for the ride.

I’m joining Kim @ Kimrunsonthefly and Deborah @ Confessionsofamotherrunner and will skip the workout update this week. There was little Yoga (shocker — mostly because of Bandit, also because of tight quarters where we were staying), there was some QiGong (yes, that’s something I’ve been exploring for a while now), and lots of walking. Today I am hopefully out running and will be posting later!

Workouts update

  • Monday: Yoga (30 min), Dogwalk+ <== rest day (Yom Kippur, fasting)
  • Tuesday: Yoga (30 min), 3 miles with 5 x 200m strides, Dogwalk, Pilates PM (15 min)

Running Update

Back at it. Slowly. Can you find the heart?

Sunday intention: go long-er
A nice day to run. I was a bit sluggish, not surprising having taken a week off of running, but unlike the last time I ran (in the cold rain) I completed 5 miles. I was getting tired at mile 4, but I knew I could go another mile. So I did.

Ironically I brought running clothes with me. The downside to our getaway, which coincided with Indian Summer, was that it was quite warm and Bandit needed to be walked pretty much as soon as I got up. There went my morning routine.

Could I have run a bit later? Probably, but Bandit was so anxious every time I left it wasn’t really worth it. One night I walked by myself to Wegman’s to get some dinner (Mr. Judy was eating my left overs) and Mr. Judy basically had to stand outside with Bandit the entire time because he just wouldn’t settle.

Never fear. I did wear one running skirt. On drive back home. Because it was still warm and the only “regular” clothes I had with me that I hadn’t worn was leggings. The skirt was more comfortable.

The trips was both enjoyable and frustrating — take a 15 year old dog with you can be hard, but I expected that. I was still feeding him and walking him even more because the yard wasn’t fenced in. It was a nice change of scenery, though, and we got to meet up with one of Mr. Judy’s college roomates (and his wife), and I friend of mine from college. We hadn’t seen either of them since college.

Where are you going? Why are you leaving me?

So how did Bandit do? Overall better than expected. Except for the accident he had the very first evening. He was his usual quirky self, although he ate quite well and thankfully didn’t get carsick. Sometimes he walked well, and other times he didn’t want to walk — but sorry Bandit, we didn’t drive for 4 hours so I could sit in the AirBnB.

We made a spontaneous stop in Skaneateles, which is really beautiful — I’d been there in college with my parents and it really made an impression! Normally Bandit will only walk a very short distance with Mr. Judy without me — but there he suddenly started trotted up the street with Mr. Judy no problem (I needed a pitstop).

Bottom line: I’m definitely glad we went!

Coming up next Week: WRD, which I hope has more running in it.

  1. Sounds like a nice getaway. I do love waterfalls and that is a perfect place to see them.

I do wish I ran today than in the rain yesterday. But Saturday is my long run day and now I can get all runs in for the week.

  2. I’m glad to hear the trip went well, overall, with Bandit. Taking pets can really up the stress level, and the work involved in keeping everyone on schedule (humans and non-humans, LOL) is tough in a strange environment.

  3. Oh, that picture of Bandit is so cute! Yeah, it sounds a little frustrating- kind of like taking a trip to a beautiful location with a toddler. Still… I’m sure you’re glad you went! Hope you had a good run today.

  4. I am sure it was nice to getaway even if you did not get to do all of the things you had planned. Hope today’s run went better for you!

  5. It sounds like you had a nice trip even though you might not have gotten to run/hike as much as you would have liked. BTW, I’ve heard of Skaneateles! One of my clients goes there for the summer each year.

  6. How wonderful to see friends you haven’t seen for ages – had they changed at all?? A lovely trip, love the waterfall pic, and I’m glad things with Bandit weren’t too bad. We have upset cats at the moment because we have workmen in – Willa has been absolutely furious that there’s plastic covering on the carpet to protect it!

    1. Aww, poor kitties. We always had to lock the cats in the laundry room when we had workers in. At least they had access to their kennel from there! When we redid the kitchen that meant a looong time for them in the laundry room.

Oh yes, they had changed. Haven’t we all?

    1. I commented on someone’s post recently, about their new rescue, and what a loving, sweet boy he is. I joked that maybe the next one will be loving & sweet rather than guarding and anxious.

Oddly, though, while we were away he slept snuggled a bit against me. Usually he’s snuggled against Mr. Judy (which he immediately went back to when we got home).

He’s quirky & getting quirkier all the time.

  7. Oh, Bandit..I’m glad things were mostly okay. 15 years! Matilda is 14, so I totally understand the situation. Glad there were enjoyable moments!

    1. We actually don’t know exactly how old Bandit is, but we think he’s close to 15.

Lola was really close to 15 when she passed, too — Halloween 3 years ago. I keep telling him he needs to beat her! My brother’s dog is 16 or 17 & going strong . . .
