Tenacious. Isn’t that just a nicer word for stubborn? Tenacious is the Wednesday word this week.
I can be tenacious (keeping a firm hold) about many things: my car, which is going on 16 years old. It runs well, knock on wood, and I don’t drive a lot (hence the 56,000 miles on it).
My husband would complain to you about the fact that we still have my laser printer in our “office”. It’s older than my car. It, also, still works — or it would, if it were still plugged into my computer and it would really help if I got it a new cartridge. Which assumes they even make cartridges for it anymore.
But it’s a perfectly good laser printer and it reminds me of the business I used to run.
Then there’s all my painting stuff. There was a period of my life I was really into decorative painting. I was good at it, too. But I haven’t painted since we moved. Part of it is we don’t really have a space conducive to it (although we’ve tried several). Part of it is that it’s not a hobby where you can just spend a few minutes on it here and there. Maybe part of it is that I took up running?
You need to believe in yourself and what you do. Be tenacious and genuine. — Christian Louboutin
And then there’s running. Boy, I love that quote from Christian Louboutin — and he makes great shoes, too. Too bad I can’t afford them.
I have to believe there are faster, pain free races ahead of me. They won’t always be, I know, but if I didn’t have a firm hold on that belief, it would be easy to stop running.
Of course I don’t just run to race or PR. Good thing since neither thing happens that often! And sometimes it’s fun to just run to remember that it just feels good to run. Run a little or a lot, depending on how the spirit moves you.
I am a goal driven person, though. Goals help me to be tenacious and stick with this running thing. And then there’s that whole run a half in every state thing.
Like a dog with a bone, I tell ya. Chester with a bone is a pretty hilarious sight, by the way.
I’m tenacious, I think – I know – and I do also have a quality where if you tell me I can’t do something, if I know I can’t do it I’m the first to raise my hand and say, ‘I can’t do that.’ But there is a big Bronx, New York Jew in me that just says, ‘Really? Really? You think I – yes, I can. I can do it. I can do it.’
— Ellen Barkin
What do you hold onto firmly?
I love your take on how there are more rewards in running than another PR or race medal. And we are huge fans of hanging on to our cars, too!

I like that analogy, like a dog with a bone! I’m tenacious but I don’t consider myself stubborn. My husband, now that’s a stubborn person…

Oh, I freely admit I’m stubborn. So is my husband. Not always the best combination but apparently we make it work.

I have to believe there are pain free races ahead too! I definitely don’t like to be told I can’t do something. That just ignites this huge fire within me. I love that your car is 16. I want mine to last that long because it’s…so me. You are close to your half, yes? Good luck! I’m cheering for you.

Aw, thanks for the cheering. I am sure there are pain free races ahead of you & marathon too — not sure that can be pain free tho!

Yes, my husband is stubborn too. I don’t hold on to physical possessions. But I think I am tenacious when it comes to things like running.

Running with a broken foot? Definitely tenacious – I highly doubt I’d do that.

I’m pretty sure my husband would call me stubborn! Tenacious if he was trying to flatter me. Ah well, at least it’s towards good things like running.

Anyone with a goal to run a half in every state needs a little tenacity! I love that Louboutin quote, too.
Thanks for linking up!

Tenacious can be a good thing for sure! Very cool that you want to do a race in every state it’s a fun way to see new places for sure. Love the Louboutin quote 🙂
