Celebrating Life: 3/7-13 Weekly Wrap

My Skirtsports order finally showed up Thursday, and I was able to test out an outfit I thought I might wear for my race Sunday (remember use code CRJ20 for 20% off your regularly priced items). Except then the forecast got nicer and I knew that outfit would be too warm!

This week also included fun with friends and a half marathon relay.

Don’t forget to let us know how your week went at the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin.

Skirt weather — finally!

Running update
Oh my, was Wednesday ever beautiful! All that spring weather it seemed everyone but us was enjoying? It finally arrived. It wasn’t supposed to stay, so I took full advantage of it and ran to the grocery store in a skirt.

Good thing I got that run in because the next day it was drab, cloudy, and rainy. Which is what the weather in upstate NY often is.

So cute, but would’ve been too hot for Sunday’s race

Friday I had an even better run. Kind of in the zone — I just felt like I could keep going, but knowing I had half of a hilly half coming up, I took it easy but it was a good pace for me even so. And I think I finally found the right way to tape my ankle, especially considering the next day it felt great. Slowly, but surely, it’s getting better, but I really look forward to not having to tape it anymore!

Weekend Favorites
I thought I would relax Saturday, and I tried, but I had to have everything ready for Sunday’s race, so I had to get my breakfast together and it had to be portable since I’d be leaving at o’dark o’clock and would be eating breakfast on the bus. Plus I was running out of protein balls, and even though the race has a lunch afterwards, they warn you that it could run out. And since I’m a turtle runner I wanted to make sure I had an alternative with me in case I didn’t get lunch!

We did watch “The King’s Speech” (I like a motivational movie before a race) and then rented “The Company Men”, because it was a preview on the DVD and had a great cast — but definitely a B movie and I don’t really recommend it.

Great day to race, despite the hills!

Sunday we headed down to the Celebrate Life Half Marathon, which benefits cancer survivors. Darlene was running it in honor of her friend who was battling cancer for the third time. Darlene’s friend Barbara, who now I think I can claim as a friend, too, helped me out by agreeing to run the second half of the very hilly relay when Darlene’s other friend was injured and had to withdraw. Despite the hills, a good time was had by all.

And that’s a wrap!

Do you struggle with your race outfit or do you have it down to a science?

  1. I can never decide what to wear! Usually a front comes through right before race day so it’s hard to decide what to wear. Plus it’s usually 10 degrees cooler before race time. Cute outfit!

  2. This time of year it is really hard to choose what to wear for a run. Last week I circled back home to change since I was so hot. It has been such an odd March and last week I was in tanks and shorts for every run.

      1. That’s not good….I found mine to be just the right snugness. I have issues with the Running Skirts brand….they always ride up so I can only wear their capris.

  3. I was dressed just right. But as you know, I had a whole arsenal of stuff just in case, long sleeved shirt, gloves, etc. The weather is so unpredictable.

We got very lucky with the weather. Today is awful!!

    1. I realized right at the start that I didn’t need my jacket. I looked around for Barbara but couldn’t find her so I just tied it around my waist. It was fine. I could’ve worn a skirt, but wasn’t sure & just decided to err on the side of caution.

I gotta remember to bring salty post race snacks, tho! Usually I do, but I forgot & I did have some leg cramps afterwards b

  4. I have it down, but I always pack extra because the weather’s so unpredictable. I can stalk and stalk the forecast, but with my luck, if I didn’t have extras, I’d be hurting.

  5. I’m usually not too indecisive about race day outfits. By the time race day rolls around I know what my favorites are and what I like to wear for a given temperature. Your new skirts and cute and I’m glad the weather cooperated so you could take them out for a spin!

    1. It’s going to be cool enough to run in the blue outfit again this week — if I want to get rained on, probably.

I seem to always suffer from weather amnesia and I’m usually laying several different outfits!

  6. Cute outfit! I’ve been totally struggling with what to wear – I’m either too hot or a little chilled. March in New England is always a bit spastic, but I feel like these first two weeks have been really off the wall!

  7. How fun! A relay!! I could do a relay!! 😀
Yes, I have a dreadful time with race-day outfits, hateit, hateit, hateit. So I pretty much stick to one thing… boring, but problem solved. Maybe one day I’ll be a race-day fashionista too! 😀

  8. I have to admit I’ve never participated in a relay. I think it would be fun! I can never decide what to wear. I usually ditch my first choice. Sometimes it simply comes down to pockets. Race day weather can through a kink in the plans too. I was just thinking today I need a new Spring patterned skirt. And would you believe, very few ladies around these parts race in skirts. I don’t know why! Thanks for linking Judy.

    1. Sunday it definitely came down to the pockets! I have a very cute pair of capris from Skirtsports, but sadly they only have one zippered pocket (the rumor is that will change — I hope its right!), and that’s why I went with the black capris. That and the fact that I’d already worn them in a 15k.

I swear I have never been so happy to stop! That full half was pretty brutal, but for a good cause. It was fun, tho!

  9. The weather usually is a game-changer, huh! I thought I had the perfect combo for my race, but (again) I was wrong LOL I was anticipating rain (and wind), so the thermal layer (underneath) was too much (and impossible to remove without pulling over & stopping). #humbledagain

  10. Thanks for throwing the key in there for us. I was like what the heck is YFPR? Now, I got it! Glad you enjoyed your race even with the hills. I never really struggle with race choice but I do always do the same exact thing. I over-dress. Never, ever fails. I do NOT like being cold but it’s never really cold here – 50F is probably the lowest. I am always sweating so much by the end of mile one. After 35+ half marathons, I am pretty sure I’ll never learn.

    1. I’m like you, I tend to overdress too because I don’t like being cold either (but in these parts, it can get below 0F — thankfully not at this time of year, but last year that same race had lots of snow on the ground).

I like tops with zippers so I can ventilate!

  11. Look at your great race pic! Looking good ladies. My race outfits usually involves as little as possible lol I will wear throw away if it is cool, but you know i am over heater.
    I love your skirts!
What a great week you had. You were busyyyy!

  12. Great week for you Judy! Congratulations on the half relay! I put way too much effort into my race outfit I know, but I want to look cute and be comfortable at the same time! Since it’s all about fun, I will try for the cuteness over comfort. Sad I know! Thanks for linking up lady!

    1. Quick question Tricia: is it ok to link 2 posts to the weekly wrap? I’m thinking I’ll have my race recap up this weekend, and I don’t like to do 2 posts in one (especially seeing on how my recap is loooooong).

So I’d love to link both posts, but it’s totally cool if that’s not ok. Thanks!
