This Time it was User Error: 5/2-8 Weekly Wrap

This week went a lot better than last week. Sort of. A few annoyances — like the never ending rain (or so it seemed), the on & off achiness of my ankle, some screw ups with my Garmin. All in all, though, a solid week.

I’m wrapping up my week with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin. Anyone can wrap (as opposed to rap).

Running update
Man Tuesday’s run was frustrating. I’m still not sure how I did this, but when I paused my Garmin at a crosswalk, somehow I managed to end the run — halfway through.

When I restarted it on a new run, I was running . . . and running . . . and running . . . no walk break. I stopped and tried to see what was happening, and there was no run/walk intervals setting. I thought my Garmin had reset itself! My first clue should have been the fact that instead of showing me pace, it was showing me mph.

Somehow I had hit biking instead of running!

The run wasn’t bad other than that. I know I got in my 5 miles (and just a tad more), I’m just not quite sure what the paces were. I know the first half was on the slow side, but that’s okay — again, I want the speed in my race, not in my training runs at this point!

Thursday I actually chose to run on the treadmill. The weather has been raw, dreary, and rainy all week long. It didn’t rain Thursday, but it did threaten and I just decided the treadmill would be kinder to my joints and take less time. My ankle has been feeling great since my chiropractor appointment on Tuesday!

Why didn’t I make it for next week, closer to the race?

Saturday’s long run with Denise went well, despite the positive splits. And despite all my whining about our weather yesterday, it was a beautiful morning to run. Last long run before my half, last long run with Denise who will be going to Venice to run a half — lucky girl!

Knee is fine, ankle is still a bit on and off, although more off than on. Stretching, icing, rolling — hopefully week’s break from running after my half will calm it down. Today it felt really good — maybe because aside from walking Lola throughout the day (including at 5:30 this morning to avoid the rain before going to my parents), there was very little activity.

I think my ankle will be happy when I take a break from running after my half (just for a week).

Favorites of the Week

Refueling after a long run

Vegan Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie pancakes
From my pancakes/waffles pinterest board after my long run. Not what I planned, but I was suddenly craving them when I got home and they sure hit the spot.

Getting down to my lowest weight in about 15 years or so. Sadly, what with travel and racing, it’s probably only for a hot minute — but it’s kind of like a PR — if you can get there once, it builds your confidence that you can get there again.

I gather that all up into a ponytail, braid & all

This Mohawk braid. Not my best look, but does a good job of keeping my hair out of my face. A regular braid doesn’t because of the long layers in my hair; the flyaways around my face usually drive me crazy, but this works pretty well.

Brunch with the fam

Brunch with my parents, sister, & her family. Smoked salmon eggs Benedict & a red velvet cupcake. Really good! The salmon eggs benedict was on potato pancakes, not english muffins.

And that’s a wrap!

Pancakes or eggs or both?

  1. I’m so over the rain. So.over.it. Those pancakes look yummy and congrats on the weight loss. After I finish my big series, I need to get serious and knock off a few pounds before marathon training starts again.

Hope your ankle heals quickly for you.

    1. I have a lot of travel this month, but then it’s back to less running for a while, so hopefully I can take off whatever I put on during vacations and those last couple of pounds.

  2. Yes what an ugly weather week. Saturday’s running weather was great but warmer than predicted. Today was awful – pouring rain, then cold and windy. The afternoon turned out nice but too late for running.

I love waffles & pancakes – rarely ever eat eggs. I always wear a baseball cap for running, tennis, boating – my hair is thick and unruly.

Enjoy your taper. Hope your ankle heals.

    1. You know I always wear a hat or visor but I still get those flyaways in my face because of the layers, so just find braiding it helps.

Walking Lola at 5:30 am was not in my plans yesterday, but we got it mostly done before it started to run, which definitely helped.

  3. Sounds like a great week! When is your half? Is it this Sunday? If so, I’ll be sending you some good racing vibes while I am racing in Denver! Enjoy your taper and rest that ankle!

  4. The rain followed me from Texas to Anaheim :-/ It was cloudy when I landed, rained on Friday and Saturday, then all sunny yesterday when I flew home. And it rained in Dallas last night and already today. Come on!

  5. Sorry to hear that your ankle is still not completely back to where you would like it.
I don’t worry about attaching my hair, it is short so very very easy to take care of.

Keeping fingers crossed that you have good weather for your race ! Mother Nature has not been that kind to you this past month.

    Those pancakes look yummy!!

I like the braid….may not be decorative but functional for sure!

    1. Brunch was really good (and so are the pancakes — not hard to do, either, basically throw all ingredients in a blender and blend).

Rain has finally gone away up here — THANK you!

  7. A half marathon in Venice? That would be awesome. I like the Mohawk braid. Because of the layers in my hair, I do one high pony tail and one low and put them together. It’s not long enough to braid. I’m excited your half is this weekend. I’m going to live vicariously through you since mine look to be over until fall. Your ankle will probably respond very well to your week of rest. Thanks for linking with us Judy and GOOD LUCK this weekend.

  8. Uggh! That stinks about your Garmin. When mine messes up or doesn’t record properly (which doesn’t happen often), I just want to give up!….lol

Your doggie is sure loving you for all the walks this week. I feel bad I hadn’t taken my Labrador out lately but i’ve been wanting to go at my own pace, not “Baylee pace”!

    1. Well, to be clear, technically I’m at my WW GW already. I just wanted to lose a few more so maintaining wasn’t such a struggle.

So very close . . . this month is going to mess with that with 2 trips.

  9. I ran on the TM last week as well. Weather was gross and it made it so much more palatable as I was planning whether to run or not run at all. Great week of workouts! I’m always struggling to keep my hair back – it’s a little too short to make it in a ponytail so needs clips, headbands, etc. I’m resorting to a hat for now. 🙂

  10. Yall sure have gotten a lot of rain, Rain, Rain go away! Since I have my new Garmin watch, the 5k I participated in is screwed up in there. I forgot like a dummy to stop the watch. I so look forward to my rewards of fastest 5k and all. I got one alright, but it was because we were in the car for some of it! #epicfail!
I like to try different things with my hair too. In fact I’m on the look out for some more ideas, Curly hair is not the easiest to fix in different styles.

    1. Thanks for the rain dance! It has finally dried up and turned nice. It might even be nice for my race, but we’ll see.

I am chuckling about being in the car as part of your 5k but I’m sure you weren’t.

Well, if we straightened our hair it would be easier, but I’m guessing you’re like me & don’t straighten your hair.

We’re a lot a like — except for the color of our hair, our accents . . .
