The week started out extremely windy and in the 60s and I was happy to wear a windbreaker on the first run this week. By the end of the week we were over 90. Every state I’ve ever lived in it’s the old “if you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes”.
It was a really nice week, despite the increasing heat — although it wasn’t very humid, and our AC works well.

Running update
I met both Denise and Darlene on Monday. The miles went quickly, despite the fact it was very windy and rather chilly. I didn’t think I’d want to keep my windbreaker on, but I wasn’t sorry that I did!
Tuesday I did a short run to the grocery store to pick up a few things.
Late Thursday afternoon I went out and did 2 miles easy with 5 strides afterwards. What a difference 2 days makes — it was in the mid 80s! I thought I’d be a sloth but the run wasn’t bad.
Saturday was a lovely morning to run. I laid out a tee and a tank, and went with the tee, considering it was supposed to be about 60 at the start of our run. I chose poorly; it warmed up quickly. Oh well, it was only 3 miles.
We took Lola for a walk when I got home, as the day was continuing to heat up rapidly, where I picked up this juicer for $10 at a garage sale. They were asking $20, but immediately said yes to $10, clearly I should have started lower!
Favorites of the week
I convinced Mr. Judy to take Friday off so we could take a day trip to Bennington, VT. When I proposed this, the weather forecast was nice. Early in the week they switched it to 60% chance of rain, but then they switched it back and it was, indeed, just a wonderful day for the daytrip.
There are a lot of covered bridges in the Bennington area, and I chose one that has a small park next to it: Burt Henry Bridge. That way Lola and I could walk around while Mr. Judy was taking photos (I took a few, too).
Next it was on to the Bennington Monument — despite having lived in VT decades ago, we’d never made it. You can take a elevator up (Lola included) and it was a nice clear day so we could see several different states. We learned that it’s the second largest battle monument in the US (despite the fact that the battle actually took place in NY); the largest being in San Jacinto, TX.
We got peckish so we went to Papa Pete’s, which I had read was dog friendly and it was. Also the home of the humongous pancake, which sadly I didn’t try as I’m not running that much and we’ve been eating out a little more than usual. I had a cheddar apple omelet, which was good. We’d like to go back in the fall, when the leaves are turning, although we’ll be in Phoenix at the peak.
Finally it was on to the actual Bennington Battlefield. There isn’t a whole lot there, but there are pretty views and I stopped to have some cherries at the picnic tables. There are a few trails but Mr. Judy wanted to head on home.
Our GPS did some wacky things and had us circling around Benington College a while — good thing I was driving, otherwise we could still be there circling. And then it took us home on back roads, which I thought were really pretty but Mr. Judy was worried we weren’t headed home, but obviously we made it.
As promised, here’s the picture of my first peony from my five year old peony bush. I thought there were three, but it seems there were only two. They are lovely though. I’ll have to read up and see if the bush needs some feeding or fertilization.
We headed down to my folks for Father’s Day, which was uneventful but made my parents happy. Their new neighbors were having a party, and had two little dogs off leash. When I came back from walking Lola one time, they followed us right into my parent’s yard,but thankfully weren’t aggressive. Lola wasn’t pleased as there were two of them, and they were off leash and she wasn’t. The owners didn’t even notice they were gone . . . not until I already had Lola back on my parents’ porch.

TL does not like other dogs much — she tenses up and freezes — but there’s a puppy 2 doors down she doesn’t mind at all. That covered bridge is beautiful. We don’t really do day trips – maybe we should!

Lola loved Chester. She’s hit or miss with other dogs. I have a neighbor friend with a small dog & I’m just dying to get them together. We were just chatting and the dogs were sniffing (and posturing a bit) but unfortunately I didn’t have the time this morning.

I visited Bennington as a little girl! I still remember all those covered bridges, but that’s about it.
Cocoa is really shy with new dogs and new people! I’ve never had a dog like this before.

Wow, that was a pretty big trip for you guys! We’ve lived not far from it most of our lives and never managed to get there. Until now, obviously.
Lola tends to be reactive on leash, better off. She loves people, though, although she doesn’t seem to like bald men. Or tall bald men. It’s hard to figure out.
As to the biting . . . she’ll get over it. It’s annoying, but it’s just a puppy thing.
Enjoy the puppy years! They go all too soon! Kind of like kids.

I love peonies, too, and was so sad when the darn plant wouldn’t bloom. And it was still only 2 flowers, but what glorious flowers they were!

It sounds like you had a lovely day trip! I do enjoy day trips and we’ve been talking about trying to escape for a while, but things have been so busy with the move! Being in Philly we have a lot of options, but I’d love to hit the Jersey shore soon!

I wish we lived a whole lot closer to some ocean. I’ve been scheming, trying to get us there, but it just doesn’t seem to be falling into place.

It sounds like you had a great day trip!! We like to go to Berkeley. Greg has a favorite Indian restaurant there and he likes to stop at the Ace Hardware because they have a fabulous model kit selection. Guess where we’ll be going for his birthday 😉

We haven’t done anything like that probably since we moved here — 7 yrs ago!
It was a lot of fun. I’m hoping to do a couple more this summer, but we’ll see what happens.

I don’t have a juicer but I’ve considered getting one. I don’t visit many garage sales but dang this is a steal for sure!

While in Jackson we were out with our dogs on a leash and this heeler dog came running up to our dogs, I was glad I could scoop up my dog cause he did not seem friendly. I’m quite certain I would have gotten bit trying to protect my dog should it have come down to it! Luckily it did not! 🙂

Remember I lived in the south a long time, so I know how that goes. And I lived near a big city, but dogs off leash walking with us was almost a daily occurrence!
I took Lola out one time and the Yorkie was watching us but didn’t make a peep, and Lola never noticed the dog.
That particular time I was coming back, and there were 2 dogs. They came into my parents’ yard, started circiling Lola — I could see they weren’t aggressive, but she gets kind of reactive on leash and it’s always difficult when there’s 2 of them.
So I started walking around to the backyard to go into the porch, and the dogs just followed us. And NO ONE ever noticed they were gone — not until I was already inside.
It’s a nice neighborhood, but still!

They did eventually, but it took them a good 10 minutes, I’d say. They were having some sort of party with lots of kids and a slip and slide (or two) and apparently no one was paying attention to the dogs.

Great week! I love day trips! Frank and I are always planning some around where we are. Right now, my favorites are when we go kayaking on the Kansas River, which runs right through town.

I wasn’t super tired Friday; just a little. Mr. Judy was a different story. Sunday’s visit to my parents . . . much more tiring. But a longer drive & we were gone longer (and it was a very hot day).

It looks like a perfect day in Bennington, VT. The lunch place sounded great, but next time you have to try that massive pancake. Maybe you will be running more than. My little Lulu is not keen on other dogs unless she knows them. She is tiny so maybe that is the problem.

That sounds like a nice trip to VT. And what a pretty covered bridge. Every time we go to the in-laws (like yesterday) qualifies as a day trip but I don’t like come home late on Sunday evenings! I’ve felt exhausted all day. My husband gave me a juicer for Christmas a few years ago. I’ve never used it. I know…I know… Thanks for linking Judy!

I do NOT consider going to my parents a daytrip. And yes, we’re always super tired when we get home.
I’m not sure I’ll use the juicer much & haven’t tried it yet, but for $10 it was worth it — I’ll try it at some point and summer is the perfect time!

Great garage sale find! I always walk my dog after I run. She’s pretty calm around other dogs. I could eat breakfast type food any time of day! San Jacinto Monument – been there, years ago!

I don’t think we ever made it to the San Jacinto Monument. I was only in Houston once, and that was for a conference — otherwise we were just driving around it on our way to Galveston.

Yes, I like day trips and there is a lot to see and do within 2 hours driving distance of where we live. Sometimes though with the crazy work week we prefer to crash and not do too much. Traffic can be horrendous here also, depending on the weather.

With the amount of travel you do, I don’t think I’d ever want to move from home again!
We did a lot more daytripping when we lived in VT and had a condo, not a house, and just cats, not dogs.

No, I walk back. I have an insulated backpack I use, but even though it’s small it can get heavy & I don’t want to bruise bananas, which I’m almost always buying.
