Come run with me: 8/15-21 Weekly Wrap

I still spent a lot of time on the couch this week, but I returned to the land of the living with some dogwalks, a few runs, and just a tiny bit of strength training. By the end of the week, despite moving more, I no longer felt so worn out.

Until Bandit had diarrhea all day and night Saturday, that is.

I think maybe things are looking up, even so, and I’m wrapping it up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin because you just never know who you might inspire.

Running update

Love the new Frolic print from Skirtsports!


Since Mr. Judy has a method for walking both dogs (I don’t share his enthusiasm for that method and am working on my own, at least mentally), I had him walk the dogs so that I could run without overexerting myself.

I went out for 2 miles, then thought maybe 2.5, and then thought well why not 3. And then thought we’ll just see what I have in me. It was not terribly hot, but it was humid, but thankfully cloudy, too.

I started to feel a bit tired about 1.5 miles in, got a second wind, started to feel a bit tired again towards the end, but I did 3 miles easy.

I thought they were pretty slow, but it wasn’t about pace. When I looked at the run, though, the pace wasn’t bad for me, and it was negative splits. A nice little surprise.

I actually did end up liking the Flipbelt water bottle


I had poor Mr. Judy walk Lola, despite the fact that Bandit wasn’t here, so that again, I wouldn’t overexert myself and I could get my run in before my Weight Watchers meeting for a change.

Another good one: negative splits again, slightly faster pace (without trying), and I didn’t feel quite so tired. My ankle was quite achy after my run Tuesday but was fine today.

I worried a bit that my weight would be up after all the soup I consumed last week and running right before the meeting, but I actually managed to lose a small amount this week.


Pretty perfect running weather; I was “lucky” I was sick last week, when it was still so Godawful humid. But this week the humidity broke and the shadows are longer and longer in the mornings as the days get shorter and shorter.

I was a bit worried about this one since I didn’t do a long run last week. Should I shorten it? Just go for it? I actually felt pretty good Saturday morning, so I decided I’d try the 8 miles and not watch my pace.

Pace was mostly pretty consistent within about 15 seconds or so, until that last mile — I felt my knee start to tighten up about a quarter mile from the finish, so I walked a little extra. I’ve no doubt it’s because it’s been a couple of weeks since I ran that long and all the missed runs last week, but all in all I’m calling this run a win and I feel pretty good overall.

Especially after looking at my journal — it only took me 1 minute longer than the last time I ran 8 miles a couple of weeks ago and if my knee hadn’t acted up I might have matched it, even after being sick.

In general I’m running just a little bit faster this year, although I have a bad tendency to do well in training and tank in the race — all depends on the circumstances (and the weather). So I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

Favorites of the week
I shared my favorites in Friday’s post, so I thought I would just take you along for my Saturday run in pictures. I took a lot of photos — some on walk breaks, and some I just stopped for and paused my watch. Karen @ Running Over the Hill gave me the idea with her post that was the tour of her office.

I actually got a little lost getting there, as we were parking in a different lot than I’m used to, and I didn’t realize that you have to go down and back to get to it. But if I hadn’t had my little detour through downtown Albany, I would never have seen this:

I’ve lived here for 7 years, but I had no idea that there was there. My jaw was hanging open when I saw that! I thought it was Snoopy!

So there you go, that was Saturday’s run. Corning Preserve is only about 15 minutes away, but I only go there on the weekend. During the week it tends to be pretty deserted, except for the homeless.

All dressed up & nowhere to go

We’d planned to go out to eat Saturday. In fact, as you can see, I got dressed up. Unfortunately Mr. Judy decided he wasn’t feeling up to it (remember, we had already been out to dinner Tuesday night). So I made him take photos of me. Because non-hat hair and a nice dress.

Then I changed into my pjs, ordered a veggie stromboli and garlic bread, and inhaled half of both.

And that’s a wrap!

I’m thinking I should do either speedwork or tempo next week, but not both. Which would you consider more important? Although if I do get together with Darlene, it’ll be a tempo (for me; easy, for her).

And should I take another week with just 3 runs, or go back to my normal 4 runs (my LSD is 10 miles next week, by the way)?

Should I go back to putting my run stats on my runfies? Does anyone care?

  1. I’d say go with what feels best for you…see how you feel before and during the run. I think you had a very good week and you looke great in your dress and heels!

  2. The Coring looks so nice at sunrise. I am up early but I like to watch the Today show so I am slow getting out there. If you run at Corning bet 11 and 1, it is very busy. All the downtown folks are running or walking during their lunch break.

    I am glad that you’re feeling better. Don’t ask me about drills. I can’t help t here.The only paces I write down are for my races. But I do know that my races are so much faster than my training runs. I haven’t run 10 miles since June and before that race May so it will not be a tempo run if you run the last 3 miles with me. It will be a slow easy one. I may not even do 10 since I only did 6 last weekend. But if not this week, maybe next.

    1. I try not to run in the middle of the day. Not only just because it’s warmer/hotter (although of course in the winter I’m much more apt to run then!), but because I try to stay out of the sun at that time of the day.

      I burn easily and skin cancer runs in my family.

      My races are faster than my training runs, too. They should be!

      This coming weekend is also my first double digit run since my last half in May. But I have more time than you before my next half.

    It’s still hot as Hades here. Another week of it on tap. I look forward to September, but, like you, not to the winter!

  4. Right now I’m only running 3 days/week while I ease back into running without aggravating my foot. It is hard to hold back from adding that 4th day–it’s what I’m accustomed to doing! If things continue to go well, I’ll add it back in soon.

    1. I spent a lot of last summer only running 3 x week — it has its advantages & disadvantages.

      Here’s hoping the PF decides to go dormant for a long, long time. I know how frustrated you are by it.


  5. I put my run stats on my runfies, but it is more for me really.. its how I track my training at the end of the week. It seems to be the only way I can keep track of things.
    Glad you are feeling better, I would say listen to your body, but if you add a 4th day maybe just take it easy and see how you tolerate it before ramping up even more.

  6. Sometimes getting out there is half the battle. Especially in this heat. I tell myself just a mile and then see how I feel. Well I always end up doing more than that and am happy when I’m done. I have seen that RRCA building before while I was traveling up there. Cute!

  7. I would start back with 3 runs, not 4. I think easing back into things is always a better option !

  8. I think you should go with how you feel. Starting back slow is always smart, at least for me. I stopped putting my stats on my runfies, well, sometimes, because I don’t think most care how fast I ran-or slow in my case. You look gorgeous both with a hat, and all snazzied up! ❤

  9. Love that blue dress!!!! I have never put my stats on my pics…sometimes I post them in the text,but most of the time I just leave the details off. I do try to always be honest in what I post….I want to be optimistic, but I think people need to see runners are real…we have bad runs, we have VERY bad runs, we have great runs, and we have (mostly) mediocre runs. I would recommend (if you add a 4th run) to vary the distance. Even just a short 1-miler could make you feel great, or it will be over & done if it’s not great.

    1. We’re having such lovely weather this week, I will probably go for the 4 runs — they’ll all be short, and I’ll probably skip speedwork this week, and get back at that next week. Maybe. It’s my first double digit run of this training cycle this weekend. At least it looks like it’ll be good weather.

      The only reason I used to post stats was to show slower runners you are not alone! And that you can be a serious runner and still be slow.


  10. I’m happy to hear you are feeling better and back to a running schedule. I like the pictures from your Saturday run. If you are feeling well, I’d try a short progressive run — start slow and increase your speed each mile or even half mile. If it doesn’t feel right, just run slow and easy. You look great all dressed up in your dress. It’s been a long time since I did that. Thanks for linking, Judy!

    1. I love to dress up, and since I don’t work, I don’t get the chance that much. Sometimes I’m too tired after a long run, but not this week.

      I ran with Darlene. While it was slow for her, it was fast for me — but that’s good; it wasn’t too fast, just enough to push me — it’s harder to find that pace on my own!


  11. Great run on Tuesday! I love it when I say I’ll do this and keep going without too much effort! Neg splits are always great for me cause I don’t do them without really trying. Well dang on getting all dressed up and no where to go 😦 I hope Mr. Judy is feeling better.
    You sound like me pondering over what to do, what you have done and what you should do. I hope you get to run with Darlene, I would think she would be a great push for you. If it were me maybe I’d just stick to 3 runs with a 10 miler unless next week will be more than 10? I haven’t done close to that since this Spring. I’m putting off building up until the last minute. It will either save me or be a huge mistake. Only time will tell.

    1. I actually do negative splits without trying a lot — but not always; sometimes I’m all over the place!

      Mr. Judy is fine. Bandit had diarrhea last weekend which had us taking him out every couple of hours — day & night, and we’re still having to take him out in the middle of the night, although thankfully the diarrhea has cleared up. Always something with this dog.

      I haven’t done a double digit run since my last half in May. And if I lived where you live, no way I’d be doing a lot of running during the summer!

      I did run with Darlene. Which helps me push the pace, and helps her run a little slower — since I was only with her for 3 our of her 10 miles, I don’t have to feel guilty about holding her back.


  12. Go do four runs this week if you’re feeling up to it. What I’d do is back off the intensity. I don’t usually share run stats because I found people would judge them and it’s all so subjective. One person’s fast is another’s slow so now I’m very general. You are lovely in blue!

    1. No one has ever been negative to me — so far — but my blog doesn’t have the reach yours does. Or maybe they just feel badly for me because I’m so slow, LOL!

      I’m pretty sure I’m going to do 4 runs, but we’ll see how I feel come Thursday. But they’ll be short, anyway, since I don’t want to bump up mileage too quickly after being sick.

    1. At least this time we managed to take it all outside (there was one time previously that didn’t happen). The worst part was the interrupted sleep — for days on end.

      There was a reason I didn’t have kids!
