Slacker or wise? :12/12-18 Weekly Wrap

You be the judge! I have been slackingrecovering this week. I was feeling better, but still really wiped out. Like everything tired me out. I got back to running, but just couldn’t motivate myself to do much more. The polar vortex probably had something to do with that.

I am linking up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin, and all the other Weekly Wrappers (so appropriate for this time of year).

Running updates

Tuesday

I took a couple of days off after my 5k, and even though I was still pretty tired by Tuesday, I got out for an easy run. I warmed up with Bandit the first 1 1/2 miles, but things seemed to go downhill after I dropped him off at home — I actually got slower.

Very cold weather was in the forecast for the end of the week, so for some reason I decided to do 4 miles. I just took it easy, and by the last mile I had naturally settled into a fairly normal pace for me.

I rewarded myself with a grilled cheese/turkey sandwich (turkey from Thanksgiving) and some hot chocolate.

The view from my treadmill on Thursday
Thursday

Barely made it into the 20s. 40 mph winds made it feel like single digits. And then it started to snow. Yes, while I may not love treadmill running, I love my treadmill.

I can do cold if it’s sunny & not insanely windy
Friday

As promised it was technically colder on Friday — but far less windy and sunny. I got out for an easy 3.5 miles. I don’t think Bandit was pleased to be left behind, but I knew it was too cold for him (do they make a doggie thermoball?), and dangerous for me to take him since there are still icy patches out there.

Thankful for a warmer (if not warm) day and clear roads to run on

Sunday

After carb loading at brunch (see below in the favorites of the week), I just had to run, right? It rained in the morning and a lot of our snow melted, but temps were forecast to plummet and black ice was a danger. So I came home, quickly changed, and draggedran with Bandit before handing him off to Mr. Judy and finishing an easy run.

Easy waffles
Favorites of the week
I shared these waffles — mash 1 banana, mix with 2 tbsp coconut flour and 2 eggs — on IG this week. You follow me on IG, right? (@chcoolaterunsjudy). So easy. So filling. So good!

brunch
No running this time, just good friends & good food
I had made plans to meet up with my friends from USAFit, one of whom has been on the injured list and I haven’t seen in months. They’ve both met Darlene, my running buddy has run with her (and they have a lot in common), so I asked them if it was okay to invite her, too. Little did I know she was coming off a week of like seven holiday parties . . . not that that stopped her.

Worth every single fattening calorie
We had a great time catching up! And I’m saying this peanut butter chocolate dessert was a belated post half treat. That peanut butter chocolate donut I shared with Karen @ Moreclutterfromkaren in Florida was really good, but this dessert was da bomb. A few balls might have been involved with brunch, too (and Marcia @ Marciashealthyslice — this one’s for you — Caveman’s Balls!).

And that’s a wrap

This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.

Let’s get the conversation started:

Feeling some weather whiplash in your neck of the woods?

Done with the shopping or still going at it?

Are you listening to Christmas music — and which is your favorite?

  1. I wouldn’t call running 4 times slacking. (I had 4 rest days this week and I haven’t sick and i”m not tired – just lazy).

Thanks for invite. It was fun.

I managed to drag myself out for 6 miles – the wind was insane.

  2. I bet there surely is something that would keep Bandit warm! That’s a beautiful view you had from your treadmill too. I’m not quite finished with holiday shopping but getting close. It’s coming whether I’m ready or not, right? There’s no better combo than PB and Chocolate. You can’t go wrong with that choice! The girls lunch looks like a #holottafun. Thanks for linking Judy!

    1. It was definitely a #holottafun & we’re trying to cook up a half weekend amongst friends– planning to finally do NY, LOL! You may have inspired us but unfortunately no beach houses. 😔 But no sand spurs either!

    1. I do have coats for him, but I think it’s too cold for them when it gets that cold.

He didn’t seem particularly enthusiastic to run yesterday & it wasn’t that cold – I thought he’d be eager since there’s been so little exercise lately.

He does enjoy s good game of ball (sometimes) so we throw that for him on days we can’t walk.

  3. MMMMMM, that dessert does look like a rival for the donut LOL I am still thinking about that donut BTW I think snow like that would bum me a bit for sure. I am hoping this year is light here! We had a ton of snow the last few years so I feel like we are due a “normal” winter for us.
It is probably good you kept it light and let yourself recover from being sick. I always suck at that lol

    1. I’m pretty good at taking care of myself & feel back to normal now (except winter SADD).

They say it’s going to be a hard winter here. Looks like their right. 😔

Dessert was awesome. Luckily I don’t get there often!

  4. The wind was crazy when we were driving up to Amarillo on Saturday. It wasn’t bad when I got to Denton, but once I turned west and away from the city, I could start to feel it pushing around my car. The front definitely went through, and my friends in Dallas said it was 12 degrees last night.

  5. Looks like a great running week! This weather has been crazy – 80ish on Saturday, then 30ish on Sunday with crazy strong winds. Haven’t even begun Christmas shopping… I don’t know what is wrong with me this year!

  6. No slacker at all!!! Oh wow, I am so glad to hear that dessert was worth it! I really really hate it when they don’t live up to all the calories! It sure does look wonderful! I loved all your pictures from the party!
I was listening to Christmas music last night as I made cookies, and drank my wine! I still love fun old songs like Frosty the Snowman!

    1. I’ve been to that restaurant a few times, although it had been a while. I knew the desserts there are good.

Frosty the Snowman suits you. Except you don’t have snow! We might not actually have any by Christmas — would suit me just fine!

  7. OMG!!! That PB treat looks so yummy!!! LAWDY!!

I can’t believe how easy those banana waffles are!! After my round of whole 30…that is one of the 1st things I am having…thanks for that!

This cold weather is so disrespectful! Way to get it done!

  8. This waffle recipe sounds a.m.a.z.i.n.g – love the short list of good quality ingredients! I will give these a try! Love how you handled your running with these very cold temps. As you might know, I’m running in South Florida, and either weather extreme, too hot or too cold is difficult for running.
You had a great training week and I love how you took it on Judy!
Have a wonderful Holiday and a happy and healthy New Year!!

    1. Training in heat is no joke — as much as I don’t like the cold, I prefer it to heat. I really don’t perform well in heat. And I have the right gear for cold weather running. 🙂

Have a wonderful holiday, too, Ilka!
