Occasionally I just get mild flu-like symptoms. They used to be tied to my cycle, but I no longer have a cycle (but still am not post menopausal). Maybe by the end of the year.
So I came home, and yup, there they were: slight muscle aches, slight temp, fatigue. Even though there were a few recovery runs on my schedule, I knew what my body really needed was some rest. So I took it. So it’ll probably be a pretty short weekly wrap!
I’m joining up with the Weekly Wrap from Holly @ Hohoruns and Tricia @ Misssipppiddlin – even active people need rest sometimes.

Running updates
Sunday
It was a picture perfect day to run & I made the most of it. It could very well be my last run around Vassar and I discovered the observatory; who knew?
Favorites of the week
It wasn’t a great week and not much going on (unless you count working on my parents’ house), so I’m just going to share more photos from my one run; it was lovely.
And that’s a wrap
This week I am also linking up with the Sunday Fitness & Food Linkup brought to you by Ilka @ Ilka’s Blog and Angela @ Marathons & Motivation.
Let’s get the conversation started:
Ever suffer with mild flu-like symptoms (but thankfully not the flu)?
What are the most halfs you’ve ever done in a year?
What are you looking forward to (doesn’t have to be race related)?
I don’t get fevers but if I don’t get enough sleep, I feel rundown. You must have felt bad to skip Rachel’s scheduled runs.
I try to run at least 3 halfs a year but it doesn’t always work (0 in 2012 and 2 in 2013). I think the most was 7. I am looking forward to seeing Judge Sotomayor tomorrow night.

I didn’t feel terrible, but like you, I was listening to my body. I’m definitely run down (still) & I know if I don’t take the rest I need it can get worse & take even longer to recover.

Better, still not 100%. Just need some more rest! Which I’m kind of taking today.

I looked at Vassar on my college trip but decided no. I don’t remember the observatory.

I doubt it would be on the regular tour, it’s away from the main campus & near the golf course (which my parents’ house is behind).
I’m not sure how long it’s been there; I bet my mom would know.

I hope the fever/symptoms pass quickly!! Your pics are just lovely though!

It was a great run (and much needed).
I’m slowly feeling better. I was never super sick, just really run down & know that if I didn’t rest, it could turn into something. I have plans — we can’t have that!

Sorry about your flu symptoms…I was feeling sick a few weeks ago and it was such a drag. I hope you rest up! The scenes on your run are pretty – I always love running near a river or lake.

Oh, I’ve definitely been getting plenty of rest. 🙂 But I’m also going to slowly ease back into things this week. I feel better, but still a bit run down.

I’m glad you listened to your body. I’m feeling that way right now.
Your run looked lovely.

I hope you feel better soon. It was nice to have such an awesome run as the first run back.
This week we’re experiencing April Showers big time!

I do suffer from flu like symptoms. It happens whenever I over do or become over stressed. I have never run a 1/2 in the 2 years since I began running. I am looking forward to summer runs & walks in my favorite park.

I really didn’t think I would run a half when I first started running. Or even race! And now look at me, LOL.
Those sort of symptoms always tell me I need rest. Stat!

When I’m run down I feel like I have a slight cold coming on.,,and if I’m lucky it doesn’t. Glad you gave your body the rest it was asking for. That was a lovely run. Now if only things would green up a touch. Still pouring here. Most halfs in a year for me = 7 + 2 fulls. I suspect years like those are behind me.

That’s why I rested so much — because I knew that it was possible to get REALLY sick. I don’t always feel that way after a half or traveling (which is the same thing for me), but I have after the last couple. But it’s been a pretty stressful year, again.
Lots of April showers this week, but thankfully no snow.
That’s a #holotta racing! I might actually do 5 halfs this year, and that would be a first for me. I’m kind of on the fence about Vegas, though (that would be the fifth one — and my third time doing it! — and it’s the only half I’ve ever repeated).

Good for you (and your body). Rest is a tough thing to acknowledge, but often necessary. I’m not sure how many 13.1’s I have done in a year…I do know in 2014, my goal was to do 14 (distance) races in ’14. The distance races had to be a 10K or longer in distance. I know I did a couple 10K’s, and a couple of virtual 13.1’s….but I think most of those “14 in ’14” were 13.1’s (maybe 9?)

I just can’t get on the virtual race train. I need the real deal.
I’m very respectful of recovery. Obviously. 🙂

My body shuts down after a race… completely. Immediately after my shower, I have to lie down and sleep. Then I feel like I’m jet lagged the week after. So I think it’s your body repairing. And the most halfs I’ve done was last year at 7. This year I’m only doing 3 (so far), with that scary little full thrown in there too, lol! I’m going to sleep through the holiday season, I think, ;D

Usually I shoot for 3 a year, 4 if I’m really lucky.
I can run a half and feel perfectly fine the next day. But life has been so stressful for quite some time — the good news is I think I finally feel normal again.
I was supposed to run today, and I feel like I could, but it’s going to pour most of the day and I also know that an extra rest day is probably a good thing. I’ll wait til tomorrow when it’s *supposed* to be nice. Although I see another treadmill run in my future this week. 😦

Way to listen to your body! That’s a cool castle type building.

Vassar College is a very pretty campus. I will miss running there.

Yes, active people do need rest. It could be your body needing a little recovery from that awesome half marathon you ran too! Whatever the reason, it’s wise to listen. Thanks for liking, Judy!

Well, my body is still asking for rest this week, but I’ve kind of had it with it. Trying to ease back into it while trying to get a little rest (and still working on my parents’ house — at least the end is in sight with that!).
